It's been plainly obvious throughout this whole blasted, overblown media frenzy that this has been nothing other than, well a blasted, overblown media frenzy. Rooney never had any intentions of leaving the club, the club never had any intention of letting him go. Rooney, or more likely Rooney's agent whispering in his ear, was fishing for the biggest contract he could find. And what better time to go about it than in his worst stretch of performance both on and off the pitch. Picture an agent telling you that you've got a club willing to throw money at you in sums that would make Ronaldo blush, and all you've got to do is insinuate that you've got plans to look elsewhere. Sadly, Rooney falls into the trap, makes a publicly two-faced statement, alienates fans, managers, teammates, stirs up the journalistic idiocy that drives this sport into the ground.... And for what, a confidence boost? Well, he'll certainly need it now. If he doesn't perform, if he doesn't show any more class, if he can't buck up and find his talent anew.... At least he'll have a giant wad of cash to hide in. Yay football. I feel dirty having thought about this, and even lower having become, in this small community of football fans, just another pundit.... But at least I'm not afraid to call a spade a spade. Ian Holloway and I obviously share a similar view. The integrity of the game is being dragged down by stunts like this. For our sake, the fan's sake, just put on your shirts and play! There's a billion of us who'd do it for a whole lot less and with a whole lot more passion!

Football is a business and Wayne Rooney is a commodity. Let's not try to kid ourselves that any sort of loyalty was to play in this saga. Man United need Wayne Rooney just as much, if not more, than Wayne Rooney needs Man United. Its business, cold, hard, business. If anyone can be accused of thinking they are bigger than the club, its Alex Ferguson, not Wayne Rooney.

Now, the question is, if that kind of money can buy an Ozil, a Benzema, whoever else you might dream about, is Rooney worth it? Please note that this is the money that is now going to Rooneys new contract that would otherwise have (assumingly) gone on new transfers.

I think that hardcore group of Wooney-United fans will be devastated this played out in the fist place. How do you trust Rooney is actually going to stay if he's so easily bought? If someone offers him an insane offer, which only one other team, the worst team for United to worry about, can afford, then this will start all over again. I can hear the collective pockets of Europe starting to jingle to find that magic number that can purchase wins.

And now United will have to either remain speculative of selling him and throw out all the sincerity they showed in signing him again, or keep him and be his puppets. Rooney essentially owns a chunk of United now. I doubt his new contract is lenient of how management treats him, and I bet even if Rooney is in a slump, not fit, etc. he will get his way. Playing time + goals + clean sheets = $$$

Here's my thought. Ferguson is a smart man, everyone knows that.

He has bought Rooney back into a better contract with the sole intention of selling him on again in the summer. This way, instead of getting a really small fee (as low as five million), Ferguson can command a much higher fee. Rooney wins because he gets more money. Ferguson wins because he looks less of a fool than seeing Rooney in a Man City shirt, and can get the Glazers some extra cash for the interest repayments

So now Rooney is the best paid player in the manutd history.  All for $$$$$ ha

I recommend checking the United topic over the next day or two for the same people that were saying 6 months ago he was a legend, a hero, then two days ago saying he was nothing, useless, good riddance, will now be saying he's a legend and a hero again

What Rooney talked was b******s to me, there's probably someother reason for him to leave utd.
Its a no brainer that Utd are genuine contenders in every competition they enter, and are better contenders than City in all aspect.
So for me if he leaves for City, its precisely for the $$$$
