Considering the sale of adebayor and toure, two top arsenal plyers 2 man city, and bringing in just a single plyer thomas vermaelen an unknown quality, and having lost 2 both d manchester teams, which are regarded as potential title challengers, will arsenal win something this time around or will it be d same old story? .... Post your comments...
Arsenal have lost only 2 times this year. 2 times has manchester. Cons united, he should win. Cons city, Arsenal played badly. Arsenal won everything. If arsenal avoid injury, they may win a trophy. I think arsenal should focus on compétiton because if he tries to win everything, players will tire holders -> injury
Well don't forget that as franboy said arsenal really should have beaten united and against city they just didn't play their best. Arsenal has been playing great this season though and has even been doing something few have seen them do over past seasons: grind out victories. If they can continue to do this or even improve it they certainly have a shot
I really hope that Arsenal will win this year. Is a team with young talented players. It does not make big transfers. Arsenal practice enjoyable game to watch. Go gunners
I agree! Arsenal are a great team to watch. They play really well and have a powerhouse of young talent. But sadly, if they want to win a trophy this year, they'll have to make sure they win all their big games as well to reduce point deficit as much as they can.
Many a times Arsenal had their chances of a trophy ruined due to injury. They'll have to try and keep all their players fit throughout to contend for a top spot
Yes and so far, they havent had the best of records against the bigger teams, and I really doubt that they will be able to beat chelsea. Our physical presence seems to overcome their beautiful play almost everytime we play them. And we're better than ever this year
I agree with Kaizersoyze, a great team to watch when they are attacking. Arsenal needs to win atleast one trophy or atleast one competition and not all of them. They also need to keep all thier star players like RVP or cesc because that's the core of their team. If arsenal play how they are right now, they will most likely win atleast a trophy if NOT injuries stands in their way
I couldn't say anything about title success but I can easily say Arsenal is playing most eyecatching football in PL. And their young and talented squad will dominate among next 10 years
I can't answer to the question posed as it is early yet in the season. If Arsenal don't win something big this year they will most certainly not be able to stop the exodus of some of their star players. Cesc Fabregas will be going to Barca next year and who knows what other players will leave for more money elsewhere when Cesc departs?
Good point. This really is do or die time for arsenal since if they go empty handed again, they are likely to lose their most influential player in fabregas and who knows who else will follow him out the door. They have built a strong team and if they wanna keep it then they need to win something
You know, I'm not so sure about Arsenal losing Fabregas next year. Those rumors about him always start circulating, but he's been really consistent about his love of the club. However, Rosicky's contract hasn't been renewed yet, and since he's proving to be a good addition now that he's in form, the win or loss of a trophy might prompt him to stay or go (and convince the club either way). Arsenal have been prone to silly mistakes thus far, but if they keep their focus throughout the entire game, they play so beautifully. Missed shots like Eduardo's in AZ Alkmaar match can't happen against teams like Man. United and Chelsea. Converting those opportunities and keeping the players in good form will (hopefully) lead to some trophies
Arsneal do have the players to win any of the trophy they are competing in this season. They have amazing players and it was interesting how people started doubting them when Adebayour and Toure left and everyone was saying that they are the likeliest team to be eliminated from the top four but the way they have played this season, I think they along with Chelsea and United seem the unlikeliest to be eliminated from the top four. Arsneal do under perform in the big games. Last year they played superbly in the champions league and out of nowhere lost their game play against United in the champions league semifinal. If they beat the big teams, then they should not, I say should not go empty handed this season as players like Fabregas, Van Persie, Arshavin and others deserve a trophy
Agreed. At present, the through passes that they dishes out are more lethal than even Barca. Granted Barca can hog a higher possession level, but Arsenal are really effective with their through passes at the moment. Hopefully, they can maintain that til the end of the season and earn something for themselves
In short, it seems the general consensus here is that Arsenal simply do not possess the depth to push the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea away from the crown
Good point Blueskiesahead. I totally agree. They have been playing beautifully and are quite often a treat to watch. But in the end, results matter and good, consistent results win trophies
Totally agree with you guys. You can prone all the great players and play beautifully every single time but what really matter is the finishing.... It's so frustrating and embarrassing to play an awesome game and lose the game at the end, that means something is missing and need to work through it
Trust me I know how that feels. Chelsea may have deserved to be in the final in my oppinion last season based on that second match against barca (I believe we outplayed them, only my oppinion though) but drogs didn't put away all of his chances and it cost us a spot in rome. Unless you finish, you can play as valiantly/beautifully as you like, it will not be remembered as a great team unless it can finish and get results
I think its again going to be difficult for arsenal to win any trophy. Ya I know that they are currently playing well but they start every season well but then the get into trouble when their players are injured. I guess same thing is going to happen this time. They also lost ade and not bought any replacement. When van Persie and Eduardo gets injured at the same time, then they will be in very big trouble. Imo its going to be very difficult
Not sure I agree with you about them always starting well. Last season they started terribly and only got better. I believe that again this season they will only get better so long as they don't get too many injuries like they did two seasons ago
Arsenal is a very talented team, no doubt about that, but they always miss experience, during the big games! They got the potential to win a trophee this year defienietly.... But they need to be more regular, when it's about winning the right game on the right time! That's a fact they can win something, but what? That's the question.... The premiership is something that all gunners want for a very a long time (2005).... But Chelsea, and Manchester United seemed more prepared to win that one, in my opinion.... And Liverpool, Manchester city, Aston Villa and Totteham are serious challengers. The Champions League is a dream, they can go far but, I don't see them winning because they are not very sure in defence. At least for the moment ! The FA cup, the Carling cup are two trophees very prestigious and the gunners can win those one!
The real problem of Arsenal is the injury of all those players all time during the year, after they are world class !
Well I think the experience issue may change if they can manage to keep rosicky, eduardo, fab, and van persie fit. I know the last two arent the oldest players but they have both been playing for a very long time. Your absolutely right though that they aren't likely to win the league. They simply arent consistent enough, though as I said in my post above, they have been able to finally start grinding out a couple of wins. Still with the likes of chelsea and united ahead of them it really isn't looking to good for the gunners in that department. The champions league is a different story though. Its a cup competition so winning it is more luck than anything. If the gunners get a few good draws I wouldn't put it past them to be able to lift the cup come may. The FA and CC are the same story as they are both cup competitions
I feel bad that Arsenal and Liverpool have not won any major trophy since 2005 but that's just because United and Chelsea have been really strong and have been challenging in all competition. Even though yes they did lose Toure and Adebayour but realize that this year you have Asrhavin who can play in the champions league and is also involved in the Premiership from the start of the season. Even though you already had Thomas Rosicky and Eduardo in the team but they didn't play for many games last season so having them back is like having new players. Arsenal do have the talent to win something this year but I don't know if it will happen or not
I think that, as usual, did not win anything. They have a strong team but we are still young, too young. You do not have the necessary experience, probably soon something gets jammed and the hole will come. Young players often have variations in form, unfortunately. I like Arsenal because he plays a nice ball, but reali are painful: /
If football was based on how attractive a team can be Arsenal would deserve to win the league most years. Some of the moves they put together are mouth-watering. Unfortunately the game we love is not just about beauty. To win the Premier League you need to be physically strong, defensively tight and have a killer instinct. You have to be able to beat the teams at the top of the table AND go and get points at some of the less glamorous places in the division. I think Arsenal and Liverpool have been guilty of dropping silly points in the last few years.
Whether Arsenal have the necessary physical presence in the centre of midfield remains to be seen. If you look at the great Arsenal sides of the past decade they have had key players that can break up the opposition attack and also dictate play for their team. I don't see a Viera/Gilberto/Flamini kind of player at Arsenal these days.
Unfortunately, I don't see them finishing in the top 2 again this season.
I can't see Arsenal finishing above Chelsea. I can't see anyone finishing above Chelsea, to be fair
So true. To be able to win beautifully is great, but sometimes you have to get the gritty wins when that fails. Teams these days who want to play beautiful footy (aside from barca) need to be able to assess immediatly after the game starts whether they can win it the pretty way, or if they need to grind it out. Its the teams who can make the right decision fastest in a game who often win the title with beautiful play. In the case of chelsea when we won it two times in a row, we rarely attempted to do it with attractive football which was of course effective, but also had its downfalls.
As you said though, song, denilson, and diaby just don't cut it for me as what they need holding down the midfield. I've said it from the start of the season that they aren't likely to win the league until they really fix this problem or until one of these players steps up fully into this position.
I also like your last comment. Though I think Man UTD might be able to do it (doubt it of course) just because they look so organized this season
The only thing that will cause Chelsea a huge problem is going to be the African Cup Of Nations. Losing that many important players without being able to sign anyone will really test the strength in depth that they have. But I think it's interesting how Chelsea are now ensuring they don't allow key players to leave in the near future. Tying Alex and Kalou up for extended stays will surely be just the beginning and we can expect to see more players follow suit. This will result in bringing the squad closer and strengthening their resolve. I see the transfer ban as a positive thing, really!
Yes but luckily we have a fairly easy schedule during the ACN. So long as we don't take any injuries, especially to anelka, we should be ok. And alex and kalou are actually the last of quite a few to sign new contracts since the end of last season, including terry, drogs, ivanovic I believe, ashley cole, anelka, and hilario to name just a few. Plus we tied down essien, lamps, and cech last season to long term conracts to we are pretty well set. Hopefully this transfer ban does lift because I really believe we need better backup strikers, since di santo hasn't been stepping up as he was expected to and sturridge doesn't seem to have what it takes in my oppinion
I'm with Salt, I would like to think Arsenal could pull a trophy out somewhere this year but there are so many tough english teams who have been proving themselves when Arsenal hasn't. I really think the title will go to Chelsea or United. I could see Arsenal winning the league cup or the FA however. Champions league is a long shot but for whatever reason I could see them winning that before they win the premier league this year.
Keeping my fingers crossed because if they remain injury free they've got a shot at anything, but as most people have already said this seems to be an impossible task for Arsenal and it has consistently killed them in the past
I agree with Salt too. The brand of football Arsenal exhibits is by far the best in the EPL, almost La Liga-esque or Barca-esque. However their beautiful brand of football may be their downfall as well. Meaning maybe their a little to passive for the strength of the BLues or Devils. Whether they can win any silverware this year is yet to be seen, but I would say no. If they do win any silverware it would prob be FA cup or the Carling cup. I don't think Arsenal can out duel a Chelsea or ManU, both of which have more experience and depth. I just don't understand how you continually sell great players and expect to win tropies. Arsenal just sold to great players to Man City who are rivaling them now and beat them a few weeks back. One last reason why they will not win any sliverware. They do not have a number one striker. Van Persie is great, but he's not in the same class as a Rooney, Drogba, Torres or even Adebayor
In my opinion, Arsenal play very good football and have great talent. That said, they are also a injury prone team. Something that has haunted them in the past and has led to their downfall. Also, the squad is still very young. They may have the killer moves but to be able to put up a fighting resistance against say Chelsea or Manchester United proves too much for them. They don't seem to be able to break through such teams, causing them to lose vital points.
This season has started off quite well for them. But I still doubt they'd win the English Premier League or the Champions League for that matter
So true about how young this team is. A few have said on here that they have experience and I dissagree with that. They have some, but not quite enough in my oppinion
I think we can come up with the FA Cup or given a really good draw maybe the Champions League, but I'm not sure about the league. We've only lost two games, but that's as many as Liverpool lost last year and they finished second. This year might be quite different with the African Cup of Nations and World Cup Qualifying. There's no telling how that might affect teams be it injuries, lost players etc. If we stay relatively injury free and get a bit of luck we can possibly win the league, but I think the FA Cup and Carling Cups are the best bets followed by Champions League.
With how well we played against Man you, I don't think we have too much to worry about being able to fight against strong teams. The question is whether we can actually maintain the level of performances, which really means keeping Fabregas, RVP, Arshavin and at this rate Vermaelen etc. Healthy
I don't think so atleast not this year.... Most of these young kids are just starting to get settled and planting their feet into the game.... 1-2 years they will be on top(unless they sell cesc)
