Best England Goalkeeper For Worldcup South Africa
RetroFC (Arsenal) 2 weeks ago
England doesn't have great goalkeeper, from Paul Robinson to David James, even Ben Foster doesn't meet the best quality. The goalkeeper at Premier League is dominated by foreign players, such as Van der Saar and Petr Cech. England dreams to win next World Cup in SA, but they still has big problem at goalkeeper position. Who is the best to fill this position?
Keong (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
James, green and foster, either 1 of them will be england no. 1...
Incuteration (Everton) 2 weeks ago
Robert Green. He has been solid in West Ham lately.

Unlike other goalies like Foster who hasn't been that good. Foster also showed his weakness - Inexperience, and his kicks.

David James is very good and experienced but he is too old and doesn't really fit the England squad.

Robinson has proved himself lately and does pretty solid in Blackburn, but the problem is he makes mistakes all along, and Blackburn's defence isn't that good. That will really overlook him as a goalie and Capello won't choose him
Theturksihkop (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
I asked my friend this question. He answered me 'Shay Given'. Then I end my friendship with him.  James will perform better than Green
RetroFC (Arsenal) 2 weeks ago
Lol.... Yeah that's true. Better James than Green. Foster may have chance...
On3two (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Hahaha, that's funny. I think Shay Given is class, but best goal keeper? Not quite
Eric (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Given is a wonderful keeper, if only he was English
Yogan09 (Chelsea) 2 weeks ago
Robert Green? Why does everybody say Robert Green?! He is a complete no-no. The defence for England is the only thing stopping him from conceding loads of goals. He was sent off against Ukraine. And may I just point out to Incuteration, that actually Robert Green can't have been solid for West Ham lately because the are in a relegation position now in the Premier League.

I agree with Retro FC that most of the goalkeepers who are number one choice for their team in the Prem seem to be foreign. To be honest none of the England goalkeepers have had the greatest start to the season for their clubs. Robert Green, West Ham (19th place), David James - Portsmouth (20th place, even though he has been injured for some time) and Paul Robinson - Blackburn (17th place). So, in all honesty, while Van der Sar was out, Foster proved his point. So maybe he should go in goal!

Imo I think Paul Robinson should be given another chance since as it was only a bobble on the pitch that knocked him from the Number One spot
Theturksihkop (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
He missed his chance with Crotia game
Incuteration (Everton) 2 weeks ago
Just look at the saves he made, I wouldn't call it first class but not many goalkeepers in England could do that, I know James can do that but as I said, he is getting old and rusty, we should let Green start instead of him.

The Ukraine sent-off is a harsh one by Green, but gotta' say that guy was through on goal and the only thing to prevent it is to save the ball, but the guy went too fast with the ball that made Green tripped him down and caused the red. I mean, every keeper can do that, even James. So you gotta' give Green the chance to play
Blueskiesahead (Chelsea) 2 weeks ago
Green has been far more consistent than any other england goalkeeper. Foster flopped for Man UTD when given the chance, robinson flopped for england when given the chance, and though james has been very good between the pipes for england lately, he's been known to make his fair share of mistakes as well. Green may not be the most extraordinary keeper out there, but he does his job just fine and is great when it comes to penalty saves (very useful for england as they seem to have the worst of luck when it comes to penalty shoot-outs). So I have to say that we stick with him. He has really been great for west ham lately. Remember they don't have the greatest defence.... In fact they just might have one of the worst in the premier league in my oppinion
Yogan09 (Chelsea) 2 weeks ago
Robinson didn't flop! He missed his kick - big deal, but it hasn't wrecked his goalkeeping abilities. He was number one goalkeeper until that happened and he deserved his place. I don't think Green is that good. And btw Foster was in goal for ages fo Man you, because Van Der Sar was injured, and I'm not saying it was just him, of course the rest of the team helped but they're second and he played about 8 match days!
Blueskiesahead (Chelsea) 1 week ago
Yogan, going to kick a ball and missing it, only to see it go into your own net is a flop. And that is not the only one. Just look it up on youtube and I'm sure you can find a large amount. You are right that mistakes don't hurt his ability, nor his potential, but they do hurt your mentality and when your a keeper (trust me I was one) that really hurts your ability more than breaking your fingers would. Green isn't amazing in any way, but he is consistent and that's what england needs more than anything. The last thing capello wants is to make it to the final, only for his keeper to try kick the ball, miss, and see it go into his own net. Foster was shaky, but he does have a whole season to improve
Franboy (PSG) 2 weeks ago
Green, of course. From one who has retained a certain panache, cages during éliminatoires. Il is fairly simple, regular, and relatively complete. His game is sure to toe, his reflexes and some game play does not suffer flat, like his sorties.

But was he really the concurence?

Ben Foster: You know him for his early season very, very excited. Yes, the new David James has the talent, rather than a Green, for example. No, he did not mind, can not slip into the gloves of a holder in Manchester and suffers from a game with feet still hesitating.

David James says "Calamity James", a reputation that he stuck with it despite several seasons really convincing. A reputation ultimately overrated, more related to the legend surrounding his position in England that a high number of faults.

Paul Robinson as the man who in 3 games, set aside 3 excellent seasons. The symbol of the curse on English guardians: talented (far more than is often recognized) but mentally fragile.

Carson's talent, but grilled by a decisive game, and nightmare against Croatia. If one adds his horrible reputation of black cats and a mind at half doubled from a poor physical, you can imagine already that he has no chance of regaining the selection, at least in the near future
RetroFC (Arsenal) 2 weeks ago
No way for carson...
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Carsons Reflexes are awesome. Very much like foster. Sadley I fail him seeing him being physically and mentally stable for this role
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Yes good reflexes, bad error percentage
Yombe10 (Arsenal) 2 weeks ago
Goalkeeper is the one position that is very hard to fill well. England will just have to make do with the good but flawed keepers they currently have
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Robert Green is a great choice. But it seems under capello james has found his saving gloves

I really don't know. I think we have good choices, its cappellos job to make the choice
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Again truthfully I don't know, but it's between Green and James two good keepers that'll do. Capello seems to have have picked james so far.

I can't decide so I'm just gonna' wait for Fabio and his wise judgement
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
If only oh if only peter cech was english
Yombe10 (Arsenal) 2 weeks ago
Even he has his days where he seems just a bit timid. He hasn't been able to resurrect the same form he was in before the head injury
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Even still. On occasions were others fail, he comes out good. Remember the champions league game againts liverpool last season. (except the Auerelio Goal) Rest Was Awesome
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Didn't I post here? Darn these things keep going missing any way I said that would be cool and awesome basically if Peter where english
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
If peter Cech was English
Manukid (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Don't forget VDS!
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Yeah Van Der Sar is great. But a little too old. Cech is 27. Mid aged and looking amazing
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Yes VDS is gonna' retire he said I think after this season, and is already gone from the international scene
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Yeah, and what a awesome keeper he was for the dutch
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Yes True, They miss him already
Salt (Aston Villa) 2 weeks ago
Calling a goalkeeper a good shot-stopper when they play at the level we are talking about here shouldn't be a compliment. It's a pre-requisite! If you're not a good shot-stopper you can't make it professionally in the first place. We're talking about how much a keeper can marshall a defence and how much confidence he gives that defence. If they feel that they can try different things in a game safe in the knowledge that their goalkeeper knows what they are going to do and will adjust his positioning accordingly, a team is more dangerous with the ball.

In my opinion nobody instills confidence in the English back four like David James. His physical presence has a noticeable effect on England and I would therefore like to see him go to South Africa as first choice. We will take three goalkeepers, as is the norm, so I imagine that Green and Robinson will make up the numbers
Skynz (Panathinaikos Athens) 2 weeks ago
This is wonderfully written and spot on, I was going to post these exact 3 goal keepers, though in a different order. In my humble and ever changing opinion I think Robinson is better man between the posts, and James will be the initial substitute, though he may actually play many games. And Green will bring up the rear
Salt (Aston Villa) 2 weeks ago
Why, thank you! I actually think that Robinson is the better all-round goalkeeper right now but James instills more confidence in our defensive unit. If I were picking one to sign for Villa I'd go for Robinson
Blueskiesahead (Chelsea) 2 weeks ago
Thank you for bringing that out. I've played keeper in the past for about 2 years and the biggest thing I noticed is that when I let in any silly goals or made any types of mistakes, the next game would consist of alot less accurate passing and ball control. Overall we just wouldnt be as good. Now if I played an excelent game, the next would be the exact opposite, with our team playing their best football. Point is that there is alot more to goalkeeping than just keeping the ball out of the net. The ability to know where to punch/palm that ball to when your not just able to clear it over the touchline, the ability to catch and hold onto the ball, and to be able to make the strikers afraid to take any shots on you is often overlooked. Believe me, when your playing well, opposition strikers don't just take any strike, they only shoot when they are almost possitive they will score
RetroFC (Arsenal) 1 week ago
For me Ben Foster is better than Green, he just doesn't have many times to play. I think Robinson is Capello's last choice. He was the best, but now still James is the best for the Three Lions
On3two (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
I think James is still there. Robinson is a close second although he, just like James, can be very inconsistent. After watching Ben Foster in the United line up during Van Der Sar's absence it seems as though he still needs a lot more experience. He has good potential but at this moment he isn't right to be between the posts for England
Eric (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
It's certainly a troubling decision. James is a fantastic keeper and instills a great deal of confidence as Salty has mentioned, but he does make really bonehead decisions on occasion; things that you wouldn't expect from a keeper of his quality. Robert Green is another fantastic choice, but confidence may be an issue. He has pretty fantastic reflexes and an excellent goal saving ability, but sometimes you just think he should do better. I would like to see if Robinson can prove himself in the near future. I'd like to see some serious competition, but ultimately you have to respect the choice of the manager. Capello is a winner through and through. As a winner you expect him to make a winning choice of keepers. So we shall see who he brings along to start with the England starting 11
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Things you won't expect.... Like run half the pitch then realising you won't win it then running all the way back, hoping not to coceade
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
LOL! Classic Jamo. What a character on and off the pitch. I remember seeing a match where he came out and completely missed the ball so funny
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Lol hehee
Manukid (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
Why is everyone saying robert green? I mean, robert green isn't doing the greatest of jobs for west ham. But also I don't think David James should be the best england goalie, as portsmouth are at the bottom of the premiership, and that means he has conceded the most goals in the premiership. Paul Robinson has been doing a very good job, and he has been doing a better job than them all, in my opinion. So I think Paul Robinson is the best england goalie currently! But if only Gordon Banks was still here and playing for england, he would be the best and we would have won the world cup loads of times!
RetroFC (Arsenal) 1 week ago
I'm agree about Green, but not about Robinson. I think Shilton was great if he never met Roberto Baggio lol...
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Can Jensen From Burnley Take the role. Maybe?
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
What? Are you insane lol
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Seriousley I think he could be an awesome keeper
Yamsy (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
I thot he's injured....  But he is kinda good....
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 weeks ago
I just can't trust him, don't know him well enough
Rockerr (Liverpool) 1 week ago
May be Joe Hart?
RetroFC (Arsenal) 1 week ago
No for Joe Hart. The other choices are much better than him. He such a great talented goalkeeper, but not for next WC
Blueskiesahead (Chelsea) 1 week ago
I think joe hart should still be looked at. In his few appearances for england he has done well, and he's been doing pretty good for birmingham as well. Good young keeper with lots of potential, and if he works hard, he may be able to improve enough for englands number one shirt
Yamsy (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
Even though Portsmouth isn't doin so well, I still say David James...
Rockerr (Liverpool) 2 weeks ago
I think Joe hart can be given some chance. He looks better that all others though he is young. What do you say?
Drukdude (Chelsea) 1 week ago
I totally agree! But maybe for the next worldcups. As for now let him develop without getting the "England National Team Infection For Goalkeepers". SA -- Green
