The result against Udinese has been reported to be worth around £25 million but there is a far greater reward now available to Arsene.
After losing two key players in Cesc Fabregas and Nasri is is now more imperative than ever that Arsenal delve into the transfer market and I am not talking about buying up promising young players but proper proven talent. The need for this has been discussed many times before so I will not flog a dead horse here.
Had Arsenal lost last night they would have found themselves in a world of problems even with a large transfer kitty the job of attracting top players without the carrot of Champions League football is nigh on impossible. Just ask Man City over the last few seasons without the benefit of Champions League competition they have struggled to attract the level of players the can clearly afford and when they have convinced players to sign it has always been at inflated values.
So now Arsenal have secured their immediate Champions League future they have been handed a second chance at rebuilding a team which is able to challenge at the very top rather than simply impress us with the odd game and attractive football.
The next six days will dictate the future of Arsenal for many years to come
Yeah sure, I hope arsene accually release his hands abit on the transfer market, a few more talented old players atleast to boost the confident of the young one, walcot said last week before the kick off of the second leg that at a dinner table, he was the oldest player yet he is still just 22, I think arsenal need atleast a 2 or more experience older players, atleast
Hahaha I don't know if that was suppose to be funny but I laughed. " walcot said last week before the kick off of the second leg that at a dinner table, he was the oldest player yet he is still just 22"
I can't imagine there are many world class, experienced mid-fielders who have natural leadership qualities AND fit in with Arsenal's playing style and personnel.
Lol that would never happen, especially Wenger at the helm, and the wages structure for club like Arsenal, this is also one of the reason United refused to pay the kind of wages Sneijder demanded
Contract should have been offered to Andrea Pirlo when he was a free agent in June-July. Proven winner multiple times with AC, vast experience and would just slot right in midfield I reckon
Maybe Wenger is afraid of older players and managing them. He has gotten used to the young immature one he has forgotten what to expect from an older one. Either way the man is stubborn and cares more for what he wants than what is needed. Arsenal needs just two or three good solid players to not be mediocre. Everyone is spending to strengthen their team and he has to do it but he choices not to so Arsenal will continue to be 4th or 5th
I agree. I like the idea of bringing up young talents. And thinking about the future. But the thing is that all his players that he has brought up has not delivered trophies since 2005. Cesc has left. Flamini has left. Gael Clichy has left. All his players he is trying to bring up are all leaving for either bigger wages or to actually win trophies. I think Wenger should go and get some experience players who can deliver trophies. That way their players have the winning mentality and experience in big competitions that when the big players leave they can step up. Like Xavi Messi Pedro Iniesta have done when Ronaldinho Deco Eto'o left. And also they should forget playing sexy football. Sometimes you have to win in an ugly way in the EPL. Something that Wenger's good sides knew how to do
Parker please. They desperately need Parker. If I was Wenger that would be my number one target. Buying someone like Parker will not alter the way Arsenal plays. He is as good as Cesc if not more. He is mature and brings leadership. He is unassuming and tireless. He could be the ingredient that completes the production. I would drop Arshavin. I used to like him, but he seems unable to pick up his form. If Vermalen stays fit, keep your fingers crossed Arsenal, it would make a big difference.
Look, I saw the game against Udinese. I was very pleased with Arsenal. They should not let pressure break them. I want them to keep trying to make it without using big money. One can always dream. No?
How can you when you are trying to say at the top? You have to once in a blue moon. It doesn't even have to be something like 30 or 40 mil but really he can't go season after season without expecting to spend something on a of couple established players especially on a team like Arsenal with injuries and suspension.
Wenger can find bargin quality he just likes the younger versions of quality that take a few years to break through
All I can say to Wrenger is that most players reach their full potential when they are 25-28. Wrenger is playing players ages 20-21 or so then sells them when they are reaching their peak. He needs to tweak his philosophy about buying players and playing players who are more experience. I think they will finish 5th unless they bring in one or two very experienced and good players
I don't understand why Wenger is so reluctant to spend money on players. Without nasri and fabregas the only "star player" that they really have this year is Van persie and considering the fact that he gets injured very often, I wouldn't bet on Arsenal challenging for any silverware this season with the current squad that they have. Wenger needs to sign proven players that have plenty of experience and not just youngsters that are sold once they reach the peak (like HangTime mentioned). With less than 5 days remaining in the transfer window I doubt it's likely that Wenger will spend any of the cash they have received this summer
Theres no second chance now. At least this season. - with this team. Even if he buys couple of players its not gonna' save him. Because We all know wenger aint going for A class player
Yeah, I think Wenger has messed up big time in allowing Nasri and Fabregas to be sold without spending any of the cash they received to sign new players. I can't see the current squad winning the title or the champions league not after last night's performance
Wrenger's just cheap.... Lol. I can see why Botlon's manager got mad when Wrenger made a 6-7m bid on Cahill. That bid was just a joke. I think that he got Gervinho for a good price though but wrenger cannot expect to buy big players cheaply. You'll get what you pay for. Fabregas and Nasri wanted to leave, he got money from them. He can at least use that money to replace Fabregas and Nasri. Buy two players that are just as good and it's like he never lost two players. But he prefer keeping the money in his pocket
Well there's 1 day left till the window closes and it looks like they won't end up signing any top class players. I understand Wenger doesn't like to spend big in the market but in the football world today you can't expect a club with high expectations like Arsenal do, to win trophies if they don't spend any cash. 35m from Fabregas plus 25m from Nasri, even if they had spent half of that money they would have brought in some quality players
Yes. Mertesacker and Santos are the type of stuff Arsenal need at the back. Park Chu Young looks to be great back up for RvP, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him played out on the wing. Maybe even RvP moved out to the wing and PCY starts in at striker. I wouldn't mind that. Walcott hasn't been all that great out side. Gervinho-PCY-RvP is okay with me.
Now he just needs to go out and get a creative option OR an anchor in the center of the midfield. We don't really need both, but I suppose that would be excellent
Sometimes the result of a game make people forget what happened during those 90 minutes. It is the same with Manchester United 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal.
If you think that was a one-sided match, a walk in the park for United, think again. United had 25 shots while Arsenal had at least 20 (according to some sport site - it was 26-24 according to the TV channel broadcasting the game).
My point is that Arsenal's main problem is with finishing its actions. RvP would be great normally, but he often has to drop deep to help the midfield and he has developed a penchant for taking free kicks, corners etc. Other players will have to step up and score. Typical Arsenal is great passing play and actions, but no end result. In my mind the errors in the back are emphasized by the lack of goals forward.
So, yes strong and determined defenders, yes, creative players in midfield yes, but clinical finishers are a must, whether to be brought or discovered-revealed-trained within the current squad
I am a great admirer of Benayoun, but he is so Arsenal-like when it comes to injuries. However, I believe that both him and Arteta are very compatible to the way Arsenal play and are both great picks.
In my view, Mertesacker is one of the best defenders in the world. If he manages to adapt himself to London and to the new club, he is likely to become one of the symbols of Arsenal.
I have not seen not even one club game of Park Chu Young, but the fact that he is the captain of South Korea is enough for me. I have only admiration for Korean players. Hard working, unassuming and class integrity are the words that come to my mind. On the way up, they are yet to be spoiled by the stardom that this profession earns you.
I don't know much about Santos either, but these Brazilians are some of the best wing-backs in the world. If he competes with Marcello for the left-back position in the national team, then he must be doing some things right. No?
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait to see what Arsene will do with his new toys. Let's kick some a$$ Arsenal and make EPL a great race to follow
Now this team is gonna' look good. Sagna Vermaelen Metersacker Santos looks very solid. Then Gervinho Wilshere Arteta Benayoun RVP will a great midfield. Then Park up front. Great work from Arsene
