I knew Alan only as a coach. I knew of him as a player obviously, but got to know him as we went through management courses together. We had a good relationship with him for many years later when he moved clubs. His spell at Stoke with the "golden Oldies” I remember well. Alan was a good professional and a really nice colleague.
