Am I right in thinking that in terms of points, it is worth pooling my resources in the defence and the attack, in order to gain maximum points? Midfield didn't seem to garner as much points and was a 5/3 split based on assists and goals scored. I am looking at having one solid midfield and 2 others who're not likely to ruffle any feathers, freeing up cash for my attack and defence
Its entirely up to you. Its certainly one strategy. Some people go with a very defensive side, other go with huge firepower. I personally like a balance throughout defence, mid and attack. A midfielder who scores and creates goals could be worth his weight in gold.
Hence, I chose a 4-4-2 in 2009-10 dreamfooty, and came second overall
But then again, he's Ant, and he had massive sums of extra money to throw at his problems because of his footytubing lifestyle....
I reasoned that defenders can cause you lots of problems. They allow goals, they don't create chances; bah to heck with em. Besides, I spread out the 7 most winningest teams in the front 6 and one defender, and put my money there. Those are the teams most likely to win the most matches, and since I'm Pro +, I was able to load up and get impact players. Why go with the Robinho when you can have the Fabiano, I say....
Felipe Melo shouldn't even be on that list, he's a defensive midfielder and you'll be lucky to get many points out of him. I agree with the above two, Guardado's your best bet
Subs are lameee man don't bother with subs. Subs will only let you down because you will forget to switch them in come game time because you are glued to your favorite spot waiting for the game.... Then kickoff will come, and you'll realize that you benched Ronaldo while you played Messi....
.... And the rest of your team is made up of the New Zealand squad, so you automatically lose....
Haha, no I meant the World Cup as in the real thing. I know about the footytube World Cup, me and the 11 are impatiently sitting at the door with our boots on, resorting to fart jokes because we are so bored
Bludy 'ell, the lads aren't going to take it well, they're the most fragile group of people I've ever managed. I think the best way might be to get them in a group and play broken telephone with 'em, some might walk away happy
Basically you pick the best team you can afford, then based on how the players do in the World cup itself (goals, wins, clean sheets, red cards etc) you get awarded points.
Person with most points at the end gets prizes galore
Man this is tough. The problem with me is that I only seem to know EPL players. But I hope I get into the top 100 at least this time!
Btw, it would be really cool if we could upload our own team emblem/logo. Even just a small 100x100 avatar like pic for our team would be awesome. And then show the team emblem next to the team name on the leaderboards instead of the jersey
Interesting idea but how long before the staff have to sit and check every photo because someone has put porn, racism or swearing all over their pic. For the original dreamfooty tournament we let everyone submit their logos and ideas in a big topic, and chose the thirty or forty best. That was really the only reasonable way to do it
But then how do you make sure the user doesn't abuse his/her profile avatars? Do you guys have to check every photo? I assume there are more members than dreamfooty teams on footytube.
It's a fair point from Hithere though, we'll look into it, but what I really wanted to add was a team crest that users can design and add to their actual kit, which would then become their team logo. So a set of design elements, dragons, crowns etc, and different badge shapes which a user can then colour in / add text to and mix and match I figured would work nicely
Hmm.... An editable team crest/logo would be cool too. In fact it might be better actually. I guess it would look nicer overall. Just have lots of design elements, including unusual/weird ones for variety!
I was wondering when the World Cup DreamFooty Transfer window open on the 22nd do you think we could get like a boost in the budget? LOL its just so hard! Even if its like 5 Million more.... Maybe it can be a boos for the top 100 or something.... Oh and is the transfer window after the group stages? I'm a bit mixed up with the dates.... Well if it isn't can we make it like that?
The World cup is over after the knock out rounds! I think you meant is the transfer window after the league stages. The answer is yes - a transfer window will be open near the end of the group stages and afterwards.
Giving a budget boost to the top 100 halfway through would just make the rich richer. I mean, the people who need it least would get the extra spending power.
Its very hard for everyone but that's why winning it or even coming close will be an amazing feat
If you think about it, any big-name stars that get knocked out can be replaced, thus giving you that money back.... We don't need more money than that 100 mil (120 mill for some of us winkwink ).
We just have to be willing to go without more than a few Fabiano's and Messi's and may have to pick up a Kim Ju Yim or.... Jozy Altidore. Bleck.
I'm most excited to see how the strategy of structuring the teams will play out; do you go big with the best names and risk teams getting knocked out early? Or do you spread out good players and hope they go the farthest. I tried to get the top 10 best teams involved with impact players that will be seeing a lot of action, but I have changed a lot since I posted my original team.... It will only change more, too.
That's the beauty.... Do you choose players that will definitely get 5+ games, or players that might score five goals in the first round but still get knocked out (Drogba for example)
footytube staff, will you reconsider the transfers allowed in the window, and please increase it to 5? There are a lot of players who are out of my league in terms of value, and the makeup of my team is half made up of players from Nations who aren't expected to progress even past the last 16, understandably come transfer window I will probably only have 3/4 of a team left, including the 3 transfers. With 5 transfers I will be able to carry on as usual, and provide healthier competition
It might be an idea though. People who failed miserably in the group stages might still have a chance to recover with five replacements in the 2nd round window. Could keep the entire competition closer so there's no Jeroen-style 400+ point leads.
Hopefully Matt will see this and use that wonderful big sweaty head of his to decide
Hi Jimmy, we know the game is tricky but we will keep to the 3 transfer limit during the transfer window. As PRO+ you have as much money as anyone and have the same chance to pick the winning team!
Yeah I know what you mean, You have to click on the bar next where it says 'profile' and stuff. Not the one on top of where it says your points.... I guess you guys did miss that link LOL
You know where it shows your points like half way down your profile on the right, if I click that it takes me to my normal dream footy team not my world cup one. It's not biggy just wondered that's all
IE issue has been resolved, so you are free to playe dreamfooty in any browser you like again! Though now you have left the IE family it's probably best if you don't go back
A lot of sites look different in IE than in other browsers, and a lot of sites work better in other browsers because Microsoft don't like to use the standards. They like to use their own code and force others to use it too, which a lot of people don't like.
Think of it like buying a dvd and then finding out that your dvd player can't read it. However, if you buy a region free DVD player, everything works.
Chrome, Opera and Firefox are three browsers that are the web equivelent of 'region free' dvd players
Hey, I was wondering for some time now, why can't we buy lucas barrios? He's probably the best player in the paraguay football team, a striker to be more precise. He scored about 20 goals for BVB this season and he is not there, yet nelson valdes is, who is a worse player by far. Will you fix that?
Maybe because barrios is a late addition because of the salvador cabanas incident, barrios is argentinian and was nationalized about 2 - 4 months ago to play in the w. [C.]
Michel Bastos. Although played 09/10 primarily as a marauding left midfielder for Lyon, Dunga has preferred him as a left back for the national side. Can this please be changed?

Are there any issues with IE7 and the World Cup Dreamfooty? Whenever I click on a link to look at the various player categories, the screen freezes. Have tried on two different PCs...
I tried IE and as you said it freezes. Dream footy isn't compactable with internet explorer I guess. I'm using opera and its fine here better try someother browser

Ahh, well, I was gonna' do my team from work, but I guess I will have to do it on my own time at home! (unless the bug is fixed soon!)
