Veloso is really great, he can play almost anywhere on the field, a central midfielder who can play anywhere in defence, has great vision and a great left foot so could play Deco's role, and is a great free kick taker, for real Wenger should get that boy, he would turn him into some worldclass player.

Morinkashi.... The explanation is we played malta you muppet. Ronaldo adds a different and very important dimension not just to portugal but any team. When he plays they try and feed all the balls to him because when he is on top of his game he is normally effective. Today portugal, yes they won convincingly and expectingly so, it's only malta for god's sake but they wasted a host of chances. Nani scored a good goal but he wasted many too like he does for united. Portugal always play as a team with or without ronaldo. It's their style like arsenal or barcelona style of play but they finishing needs to improve. They waste a lot of chances and always try to walk the ball into the net instead of being more clinical, like today against malta. Still I'm pleased with their performace...

Elbandido I agree with you for the most part except for portugals comparison to barca lool I know portugal passes the ball and all but no where near being a team with good chemistry like barca.... Hugo almeida only has a spot on the team because he's tall the boy has noooooo play making ability that's why nuno would fit better in that system.... I'm not trying to pick on meireles but he is not first choice for me. Mountinho is a first choice no doubt about it. The problem with portugal is that we are soooo wasteful with our chances. If portugal were judged on chances then I think we would win that. So with that in mind I would agree to leave ronaldo upfront as a lone striker but give him the freedom to venture left or right. As for a replacement for him on the wings? Nani is one and whatever happened to queresma? What a waste of a talent.... So much potential and not even selected? What is wrong with that? Obviously, after moving from porto his career has gone downhill and I'm sure his confidence has been affected by that. Someone needs to grab him in the january transfer window and start giving him regular games.... Then I would definately put him on the left wing.... Him and nani on either side and ronaldo upfront would cause havoc for defences I don't care who you are.... As for my comment comparing them with barcelona, damn right.... We even play as good as brazil.... We were once, not too long ago called the brazil of europe.... I believe we are exactly that.... And just for the record.... Another comparison with barcelona is because portugal always has alot of ball possession.... Watch the games and look at the possession.... Difference is we don't have the strikers like bracelona and the finishing.... The end product but that will change.... If we had a torres and villa partnership upfront.... God help other teams.... Those hating on Meireles: He's much better than Moutinho and Petit the guy he is actually replacing. Here's a list of players that shouldn't make it: "Nulo" Gomes, J. Moutinho, Simao and Deco (these last two borderline). Portugal is playing better without CRonaldo because he's a selfish prig. It's not always about talent; there are intangibles and are Meireles brings leadership skills that are hard to quantify. Last thing, I would play see Ronaldo as a lone forward (4-1-3-1-1); the other guys support him. Forget about H Almeida and company; they can come and relieve after he's done the damage
Simao and Deco shouldn't play? Borderline? Leadership? Deves Tar Bebedo. I like the common sense lone striker using ronaldo as target man but whos going hold the ball up and set up goals? That's why Nuno Gomes is on the team in the first place. Meireles is average, good running but nowhere near the level in comparison to other tenacious Central Midfielders. If he was any good.... Great game by Portugal and nice goal by Nani, keeps their hopes alive of reaching the World Cup but things will get even more difficult here on. Nice goal by Nani and Portugal have performed well without Ronaldo
That last goal was the only one that the whole team earned. The rest were just horrible defence. Portugal needs to step it up if they want to play with the big boys
I think great win for portugal however easy it was to qualify for them in the end but then I have to say I'm glad to see nani being such an attacking force in the mid. He has really stepped up to lead that portugese attack since they have always been a team without any great forwards and just full of midfielders granted pauleta filled striker for the longest time I say glad to see that the mids are stepping up and they are able to produce goals
