Nice game from portugal was very slow in some parts but when portugal pushed a little more portugal was hard to stop
Ronald is starting to become and outstanding player for both portugal and real madrid very influenced in the game and it had a nice flow with him very involved
One game does not makes you outstandin for a national team.... You think anyone I going to remembr he scored 2 goals against cyprus 2 weeks fr now >? .... But his 53 goals is still fresh and that was a season ago wasnt it >? >.... Consistent playing and a trophy=legend.... He is alrdy a legend in club football but if you look like da likes he is rivaling such as ronaldo zindane figo etc.... He needs a national title ! !_!
Hey Figo never won anything for Portugal expect for the under-20 world cup and like you said he was a great player. Plus of the 2 best players in the world he plays better for the national team then messi has
I meant in the performances since paulo bento was on the team, Ronald scored 4 goals in 4 games not including friendlies, and yes all I think he's missing not is a trophy with the national shirt on
If you ask me, which you don't have to, Ronaldo is a little like Labron. No doubt he's an amazing player, but somehow he hasn't been very effective in big games lately. And as for this game, 60 minutes of 10-man cyprus vs portugal, the only surprise is that cyprus held its own for so long, till the last 10 minutes.... Poor cyprus
Another Messi vs Ronaldo debate.... Just enjoy the performance. It was one of the many times Ronaldo played well for his country. It was Portugal vs Cyprus. Messi was not involved
The Cypriot fans had been whistling and booing at Ronaldo from the beginning of the game, so when he scored his second goal, he ran to one of the sides and just told them to keep booing. Apparently, when he scored the second, everyone in the stadium got up. The Portuguese fans to celebrate, and the Cypriot fans to boo him. So the ref gave him a yellow for mockingly incentivating or goading the fans opposition fans. A similar kind of thing to Adebayor, if you think of that time he scored the goal for City against Arsenal.... Only this was not as bad. This kind of stuff happens all the time as you know. Especially to Ronaldo! Lol
@Wadadliyouth.... Not trying to bash the guy just stating facts!.... Figo consistently played well for portugal unlike ronaldo.... Call it nothing figo won a youth cup but ronaldo hasnt won anything.... @Megadragao12.... Call it unimportant but messi has won a yuth wrld cup wit golden boots and olympic gold medal.... Yeah its not that big of a deal but what does ronaldo have?
Lol I'm not surprise to see a barca fan here hating ronaldo and bragging how good messi is. Really. =/ What ronaldo have? He got much more than messi at HIS AGE. Obviously it's pretty unreasonable to compare 2 footballers woth an age diffrence of 2, usually the younger one wins
Since you're going to use Messi's so-called international titles, I'm going to say this.
Because of the lack of depth in the Portuguese national team at the time, Ronaldo was already capped for the senior side, and was an integral part of Portugal's run to the Euro 2004 final. Surely a runners-up in the European Championship is more prestigious than Youth world cups and an Olympic medal.
Playing for Argentina (which also is a far stronger squad) doesn't have as much emphasis on a Continental championship in the same way as the Euro's do in Europe. Even then, the Copa America (which Messi-led Argentina completely flopped at) is less competitive. International Golden Boots? Messi doesn't have a single one, and neither does Ronaldo. If you're talking about international goals, Messi has 17 in 60 appearances, while Ronaldo has 29 in 83. If you talk about international clutch-factor, nothing Messi did on the international stage was more big-game than Ronaldo's penalty to defeat England in wc2006.
Youth cups should never be considered major or even minor trophies. Take Germany for instance, most of their top U20 players are already plying their trade for their senior team.
Back to the game, Ronaldo had a fairly solid game, where he had a number of good chances that he created himself with dribbling or one-twos. He also set up a few good chances for others as well, and it led to an assist on the Almeida goal. It was absolutely classless of the Cyprus fans to be chanting Messi's name and continuously boo-ing Ronaldo throughout the game. Cyprus fans were cheering a player not even on the pitch.... And bashing a player who was just playing his game (Ronaldo didn't playact or dive in the game, Cyprus were giving him quite a bit of space outside the box).
Which brings me to a final two cents.... Why must you always mention Messi's name every damn time Ronaldo features in anything? Just because he's the best player in the world doesn't mean we have to be etch his damn face next to a Portugal game, an Armani ad, or his girl (damn she's hot though). Let them play the damn game, and watch the damn game instead of comparing every last touch they make
Considering their level of football and the stats they generate in their respective clubs, I think it's an absolute fact that both players SUCK in their respective nation.
One of my picks for the euros they just seem to play nicely with each other that they didn't in the world cup or the WCQ, and good to see ronaldo maturing actually reacting when others score and passing when he was on a chance for a hatrick, Good on him and good on portugal, ola meu nome e Cj como estas
The Portugal squad always seem to be a bit rusty when they join up from club football. Through out this match they found it hard to find their flow, and often they rely on a few individual efforts to get results, but the last 10 minutes of the game they played well together, linking up well and scoring 3.
I'd also like to comment on Ronaldo's character; he didn't let the Cypriot fans get to him when they were shouting messi's name, and if anything he played with more incentive!
I don't see why they would chant Messi's name rather than support their team.... Even their captain Okkas told them to stop at half time
You right man, that is what I call a little bitch ass country. They not event from Argentina, instead of supporting their country. I bet Messi f**k all your country and your players, shut the f**k up and support your country, is not real madrid V Barcelona bitches
He taunted the Cypriot crowd and that is unsporting behavior. He didn't get it for scoring though lol But yes he deserved it, things like that can start field riots and threaten the safety of all, just because of childish behavior.
They crowd had it comming, they where whistling him & singing " Messi " all game long, they got served, you just don't piss of Ronaldo, people never learn
Remember that when you are a sports star you are there to entertain the people that make you earn your salary! So don't try to side with players that hit back at crowds because that doesn't mean anything when it comes to the player's integrity as an athlete. Of course you might try to associate that sort behavior to passion but then again at this level it should be kept professional
After all highlight and websites like footytube keep their legacy alive so there is no need to rub it on their faces when they cannot erase the facts. YAY TO ME!! Lol
