The Most Awesome Web 2.0 App Since Napster And Footytube 2.0!
Lee (Kidderminster Harriers) 2 months ago
Ok. Being the hardcore uber tech geek that I am, not a lot gets me excited on the web 2.0 front, but today I, and the rest of the geek world pulled a collective O' Face to that which is Spotify.

I know they've been in beta awhile and I'm pretty late to the game here, but all I can say is WOW. This thing is f***king amazing. Absolutely superb. And their itouch app is even sweeter.

Itunes / Apple have just been raped in the arse by these guys. Say goodbye to music you have to pay for, say hello to spotify. Unlimited free music, with an almost limitless library of tunes, and instant bufferless playback. I swear the music plays faster than if it were stored on your drive. Oh and did I mention that it's completely free? I think I did, but just incase you missed it, i'll say it again, all the music, everything, is free.

I am about to start up a spotify link thread, as you can share everything you're listening to with others at the click of a button and it will instantly jump to that album / track in your spotify app.

Oh and btw, incase you were wondering, all of this is completely legal, being ad and subscriber supported.

Once again, proof that the internets is right.

Oh snaps not available in the US!

Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions we are not yet available in your country. We understand that you are currently in United State
Ant (Liverpool) 2 months ago
Not available in NZ either but through the mysteries of science and technology I'm using it now.

A similar service is provided by last. Fm - with the added bonus of discovery. If you listen to bands a, be and see then it will suggest you try out bands x, why and z. Much like Amazons "you may also like".

My only problem with Spotify is that you need to manually search (or use the radio). Last. Fm lets you tell it to make yo an auto generated playist based on what you like (and may like).

Anyway, try before you by

You can actually link spotify to your last. Fm account, though not explored that part yet.

Further, if you go to the what's new section, it also suggests music you may like based on your playlists. I expect there's more advanced stuff to come, but what I really like, is their iphone / itouch app that lets you store everything you stream for offline listening.

Should also point out that spotify is completely free, so no buying involved unless you want the non-ad supported version

I do enjoy typing a bands name, arranging by song popularity and listening that way. Kind of a fan-chosen "best of" listing

Just as I was about to praise their worldwide availability (free or not), I click the buy button and.... Bam, it's not available. Ah well
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 months ago
Won't give me a virus will it? Lol it's sweet
Alen (Liverpool) 2 months ago

Used it before and found it pretty good, just have to put up with the in-your-face advertising which is bearable I suppose.

Only real problem is the mainstream content, lack of interesting stuff but for the average user it is brilliant
Lee (Kidderminster Harriers) 2 months ago
Hmmm how long ago you use it? They've now got pretty much everything you can think of, mainstream or otherwise....

Advertising not an issue for me as I'm in oz. But I think I may end up subscribing anyway (which kills the advertising).

They don't have *everything* but still, their library is pretty darn comprehensive. The other minor annoyance is that some songs are geo restricted
Alen (Liverpool) 2 months ago
Yeah apparently I can't play half of them because their not available in the UK lol
Adamaus (Manchester United) 2 months ago
Interesting ill have to check it out I'm sure limewire will still be my dwnloader for now
Ben (Arsenal) 2 months ago
Ever since I stopped using limewire, I have become hiv negative. The correlation is flagrant, it was the best decision I ever made. I'll stick to torrent/grooveshark and more recently spotify.

Safety first my friends!
Alen (Liverpool) 2 months ago
I still think torrents are the way to go, and with this application you need to get a 3rd party to get them on PC in order to burn them
Aznballz (Blackburn Rovers) 2 months ago
Is this available in South Korea?
Theshid (Liverpool) 2 months ago
Not available in Canada too (you got to be on Mars or something to play music on it
Lee (Kidderminster Harriers) 2 months ago
If you can't get it in your country, give me a shout on meebo and i'll get you an invite over
