So - I think a new forum for TV Shows is in order, seeing as how shows like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones are hugely popular. I guess a kickstarter for a topic like this, is what are your Top 5 TV Shows of all time and Top 5 atm.
For me it goes like this
1, Community 2, Breaking Bad 3, Modern Family 4. Game of Thrones 5. Doctor Who
Of All time it probably goes like this
1.community (Yup, I'm that whipped on it) 2. Friends 3. Breaking Bad 4. The Sopranos 5. Chuck
If you have any respect for yourself then yes, you will make time to watch the Walking Dead. Otherwise you simply have not lived my friend.
Can I just ask that if this forum becomes popular could people please refrain from posting spoilers? Spoilers make me angry especially since I'm in Australia and I may have to wait longer than other countries. Thanks
1. Misfits 2. Peep Show 3. The Walking Dead 4. Boardwalk Empire 5. Sherlock (uk not dodgy US)
All time top 5
1. Spaced 2. The IT crowd 3. Doctor Who (Matt Smith) 4. South Park 5. Battlestar Galactica
Eek that was hard to narrow down and I feel I have missed some classics though in a 'I have never seen Star Wars' style admission I must admit to have never found the time to watch the Wire, Sopranos or Breaking Bad! Which probably feature in most peoples top 5's
You're right Ayyam but it says a lot about the show that it took that long before the standards started to drop.
All this being said though, a new Simpsons episode that is only half as good as the old episodes is still funnier than most new shows. I mean Two and a Half Men for example? *shudders*
Spaced is Simon pegg and Nick Frosts best work. Forget shaun of the dead or Hot Fuzz (Both great movies respectably) Spaced is definitely the pinnacle of their genius
Watch The Wire Matt, you won't regret it. It's clever, complete (all characters get in-depth analysis and it's not subjective) and funny at times. I usually hate police or crime series, but The Wire is one of the best things I've ever seen
Top 5 (all time) -------------------- 24 (fk Chuck Norris, Jack Bauer is the real deal) Prison Break (season 1 was just unbelievable television) Dexter (the new season was crazy) Supernatural (Best of it's genre) Friends (Best Sitcom)
I'll get it for this, but I think the Walking Dead is overrated. Good, not great. There are a number of shows I really like though. Right now, I'm re-watching The Wire, which I was too young for when I initially watched it several years ago. Now it feels like I discovered the greatest new thing. So The Wire is up there as one of the best things I've seen on TV (computer, actually).
I also love Game of Thrones, since it combines the well done fantasy aspect I love with the raw selfishness of humanity which results in intrigues, backstabbing and war, much like in the series 'Rome', which was great too.
Then there's series like Band of Brothers (WWII has never been portrayed this well), Sherlock (clever and witty) and daily comedy like South Park, the Big Bang Theory, Top Gear (which is only semi-fiction though) and of course Family Guy and Futurama. All of those shows I follow daily when I'm up for some relaxation, while I enjoy brilliant shows like The Wire that require some thought only every couple of days.
So basically, in no particular order:
Enjoyable easy comedy:
1/ Futurama 2/ South Park 3/ Family Guy 4/ Friends 5/ Blackadder 6/ Arrested Development 7/ Avatar (yes, I loved that show) 8/ The Simpsons (when Matt Groening still wrote the episodes, which is about a decade ago by now) 9/ Top Gear 10/ The Big Bang Theory
More intelligent series: 1/ The Wire 2/ Band of Brothers (again, best thing on war I've ever seen) 3/ Game of Thrones 4/ Sherlock (BBC version) 5/ Rome 6/ Breaking Bad 7/ Borgen (great Danish drama about the lives of top politicians and their struggles)
I also love pretty much any of the BBC documentaries, especially those of David Attenborough
1. South Park 2. Arrested Development 3. Trailer Park Boys 4. Chappelle Show 5. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia 6. Futurama 7. The Office 8. Married With Children 9. The Simpsons 10. Seinfeld
