Myself I would love to see some sort of standing on the terraces brought back to old trafford, even if its only the two lower sections behind the east and west stand goalmouths. Seating has caused massive fights at old trafford for years, and still does, the stewards WILL throw you out if your constantly on your feet and refused to take their advice to sit down. Its also the reason some other clubs won't give utd the full away side allocation, because the utd fans refuse to sit down. So I can't see why every club couldn't have a standing area behind each goal, just the lower section, you could get more peole in, and keep the fans happy, and it would be safe
I think it's a good idea. Most German stadiums have standing sections behind the goal. I think it adds to the atmosphere. Old Trafford could do with that I think
What damage could 5, 000 standing fans do behind each goal in the lower section? There wouldnt be a problem, 5, 000 is nothing when you look back to the days when behind any goal at any game had a heaving mass of fans swaying back and forth, and when a goal was scored you could go from the top of the stand to the bottom without even knowing it, such was the movement of the crowd, and it was dangerous
Yeah 5, 000 is fine. I mean if it's all standing than that's dangerous but I don't see the harm in 5, 000. I think they should put it in the stretford end because that's where the most vocal supporters are. It would be great
Don't bluff yourself, the boys up the other end can make a hell of a racket, and give the stretford enders a run for their money, and always have done.... Lol
I've sat everywhere in the ground bar fergies seat.... Lol, that includes the very top of the north stand with nothing behind you but corragated sheeting, and pigeons sitting on your shoulder.... Lol, both new quadrants, they are not too bad, but behind either goal is great, and I was in the stretford end right in the middle of the goal the night we beat roma 7-1, and I have never heard a noise like it anywhere
I havn't sat in the new quadrants yet. Need to some day. I've sat in all but the East stand so far (and the quadrants ) The stretford end is the best though. Can't beat it. I was sitting there on Rooneys debut against Fenerbache when he scored the hat trick. Happy days
I've sat in the east stand quite a few times, the night we went out to porto was one, the 4-1 home defeat to liverpool last year, not been very lucky so far, but I was sitting below the ac milan fans there last season when we wapped them 4-0, theres a few pics in my photo album, oh, I was at that end this season for rooneys overhead kick, opposite corner to the scum supporters
You know what its like yourself, you would sit anywhere, just to be there. In saying that I have only ever seen utd beaten once when I have been at the games, and that was that 4-1 defeat to the scousers last year. I've been really lucky and seen some cracking games at old trafford, like the roma game 7-1
Why aren't the fans allowed to stand in front of their seats? It would still be safe because there would be regulation of attendance, so you couldn't overly stuff the area. But if that's not possible, i'd be in favor for a standing area. It would give the atmosphere a huge boost. But like yaldho said, it probably wouldn't happen.
That's what the utd fans have been doing joey, and being ejected from the ground at times for it. I don't see why one section behind each goal couldn't be standing only. Something like 5, 000 behind each goal
Although I personally (if I ignore all else around me) would love it. But I believe it's to ensure those who cannot get a good view in the first place don't get blocked out by those standing if front or around them.
I remember when I was around 5 or 6 years old, I wouldn't get to see anything if people stood around me.
But I also remember back in 2000 or something they the Trafford council was lobbying for a 'safe-standing' area; which would involve doing construction and demolishing areas of the stret end.... And you know what happens when any approaches that end even with the idea of tearing it down.
I don't see it happening, but personally, I'd like to see the first 5 rows (worth of seats) ALL around the stadium to be standing, and the rest seated. Not only does this provide a safe area (flat, on the ground, no way you can 'fall off') it also prevents those behind from being blocked out of view
Yeah, they'll talk about it, but from the info I have been hearing on radio all day, the concensous is they will do nothing about it. Pity It can't be that hard to police, I'm only talking about say 5, 000 behind each goal in the lower section, and I would even go as far as to make the tickets half the price of seating, and encourage some to take a standing season ticket, that way they are unlikely to cause any trouble. But it would help the atmosphere in grounds
Of course the FA and Premier League are going to side against it, because a standing area means cheaper ticket prices, and cheaper tickets mean less money in their fat pocketbooks. I don't think they give a damn about the atmosphere, or that football is a game for the people, not the rich "prawn sandwich brigade". But that's the problem with football these days- instead of going all out to make it work (because it's what the fans want), to make it be safe (which honestly wouldn't be to challenging- look at dortmund's stadium). And to increase the atmosphere, the governing body will sit on their lazy fat asses as always and just let the money flow in, because that's what they're all about
I remember the good old days at old trafford when we stood and sang our hearts out the atmosphere was absolutely awesome I would love to see standing areas at the theatre of dreams but it will never happen but got some great memorys
The atmosphere at every ground has been affected, when did they EVER have to play music over the tannoy systems to get the crowd going? , like todays grounds, they all play music, back in the day you sung before the match, during the match and half time, and all the way home, pretty boring now, unless your lucky to be a regular utd away fan, best away fans bar none, and that's a fact
