So haven't scene the highlights yet, but know its pretty funny all of them wore Suarez shirts on pre game, I mean racism is stupid, and 8 games is very harsh and big miss for Suarez and Liverpool
Vaishnav (Liverpool) 5 months ago
Even you guys will miss JT a lot for at least 10 games

Adam's penalty was terrible to say the least, as was Liverpool. This should be 3 easy points for the Reds these days. It's frustrating when Liverpool bring their A-game against top-half opposition and their D-game to bottom half

As usual these motd highlights didn't not tell the story of the game. Sure liverpool missed the most clear cut chance of the game, but other than that they didn't do much at all. Having watched the full 90, they didn't do much with their possesion, were sloppy and most of their shots were from distance. Half the wigan breaks and good spells have been cut out. Well done bbc for another fantastic highlights show...

MOTD is pretty biased

Wow, good result for Wigan to collect point at home against Liverpool, Wigan goalie kept that point for sure with great saves and that one hand ball against Suarez bicycle kick that led to Adam being saved, but wow that would have maybe gone in and being amazing goal, and so Al Habsi saved Wigan for sure, and Moses should have scored especially that lazy touch at end that went wide, but ya I confused why Suarez could still play, I thought he had 8 games, or they appealing and he can still play or what?

I don't get it Rafa Benitez won champions league with Liverpool.... And went to a semifinals Made Torre's Basically the 3rd best player in the world in 08 Behind Meesi, and Ronaldo.... He wanted money to buy players and they dint give it to him they sack him then.... Dalglish gets to buy what he wants.... And get overrated English players that can't produce.... Besides Suarez of course
R9team (Arsenal) 5 months ago
Dalglish don't know how to attack

Al Hasbi was perfect this match, will give him as man of the match
Goalkeeperfreak (Arsenal) 5 months ago
Liverpool are strange. They make so many chances but hey fail a lot of times to take them. This problem will further emerge if Suarez's 8 match ban sticks
Martino (Manchester United) 5 months ago
There matches are so dam boring!

.... Alan Hansen, where do I begin? Anyone who knows even the slightest bit about anthropology can understand how useless it is to ask two white men if racism is 'rife' in English football. Uhhh thanks for the input? For accuracy's sake it'll get you no where. Alan Hansen said 'colored' way too many times and way too comfortably. Sorry if this offends anyone, but I feel like this gives some insight into the mentality of the hierarchy in football and society. Hansen, I'm so glad you don't think the racially directional banter in football is hurtful.... You're just the gauge we were looking for...
SuperSpurs (Tottenham Hotspur) 5 months ago
Agreed, I'm pretty sure if you're going to refer to colour at all, just black is the most unoffensive.

To be honest, sometimes, the more comfortable you are with these terms, the less racist you probably are. If you try to be politcally-correct, it just shows that you think it matters what you call someone and that is similar to racism; you are still discriminating. It just takes some common sense to know when something might be offensive and to refrain from saying certain things at certain times, whether it's about race or some other issue

Suarez is colored to
Vishal024 (Arsenal) 5 months ago
You didn't need to bring this up. This sort of discussion is becoming so obsolete. I think what matters is the intention of the speaker. A local politician here in Aus referred to the local Aborigines, the natives of Australia before the Brits came, as "Abos" which is generally viewed as a derogatory term. He claimed that it was a word in prominent use in his days and it did not have an offensive connotation back in the day.

I doubt Hansen meant anything offensive, being politcally correct has its flaws. It shows that people are less honest and are hiding their views. I'd rather someone be open and in this case he surely was not intending to be offensive
Swolf (Everton) 5 months ago
You're missing my point, but then again my criticism of Hansen probably muddies it anyways. It's not about being PC, it's about weather or not you're highlighting difference as something to be considered in your assessment of an individual. My statement is more rooted to the argument of "If someone white got called something derogatory in mentioning the color of their skin, people wouldn't be so up in arms about it. " That's completely true, simply because of the underlying history attached. White people fail to forget how few racial signifiers there are attached to their race. These names (or lack of them, where the majority is concerned) are a symbol of status. For me, progressive people know how to acknowledge the past and move forwards with hopes that we can all be considered on a human level.

Now obviously I don't know you Vishal024, I don't know if you're one of the Aborigines you mentioned in your example. I do hear what you're saying, but I state everything on here as my opinion, MY views only. I claim no attachment to media or other opinions unless I say otherwise. That being said, in my opinion Hansen seems like a guy with dated thinking. From someone of 'color' he used the word as if he sees significance in the use of black footballers, like "yeah they can do the job". Let me tell you, it's not novel for people to think and express feelings of that nature even still. The most recent heavy moment in my life was when some dude in a cab, pulled over to the curb of the bus stop I was standing at and yelled "Look everybody! It's an african monkey!" I am not African, nor am I a monkey, but he used words that he assumed would offend me. And you know what? Even if I were a vengeful person I couldn't have thought of an insult that was on par with what he threw at me. There simply aren't any. He knew what to use to generalize me as a person in the most unfortunate way. I just stood there in silence, as did the other patrons waiting for the bus. They were shocked, but I wasn't.... More disappointed and down. I'm sure Aborigines have their own word for what they are as a people. When other people suddenly have the power to label you, the game changes. That's all I'm saying. Fractured history will only persist with separation like that
