Whats The Big Deal With Rafa?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Why does he insist on only getting Spanish players when Spanish players don't really like or respect the epl(all in my opinion)? If he doesn't change his ways I think Liverpool will look the same as last season. And then his job will be on the line but what are your thoughts? Discuss!

I am not et all supporting your statement, I don't see any fault in his thinking. Lets this right the players who are playing their best are only spanish players and everyone tries to get the best players and he is doing the same nobody would have expected Alonso's price to be so high.
That's the fact

Yamsy (Liverpool) 2 years ago
That's very true.... KSH (if I can call you that?), you always make threads about Liverpool's transfers and Rafa....
Are you a Liverpool fan deep in your heart%3
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
nah I always want a league to be competitive. I want every team to be able to effectively compete liverpool is only team that has complaints right now. I tired of united now

Think it is only natural that managers go back to their domestic league for signings cos they are familiar with the players.

Anchelotti is raiding Italy for a signing while we have seen Wenger rely alot on French players.

I totally agree man.... I never noticed that pattern.... Thanks...

Exactly what thomas said, manager tend to take players from where they came from because it is easier for them, plus they have ties there which they can use to help get players.

Although he does have a lot of spanish players, why blame him if its working? I mean if he wasnt spanish orientated then he might never have bought Torres and noone in there right mind would say that was a mistake. Yes it can have disadvantages but I'm pretty sure managers would prefer to feel safe in the players they buy, and not take too many risks. With rafa that is with the spaniards

I like the spanish players he brings in, although, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more dutch or englishmen

Lets not forget Spain won Euro2008 and the country is producing some extremely talented players. Surely that would be reaso enough to buy in some of their stars.

Here are the top 12 benitez transfers by value (at the time) since he joined Liverpool:

Player Signed Cost Came from
Fernando Torres July 2007 20, 200, 000 Atletico Madrid
Robbie Keane July 28 2008 19, 000, 000 Tottenham Hotspur
Glen Johnson 22 June 2009 17, 500, 000 Portsmouth
Ryan Babel July 2007 11, 500, 000 Ajax
Xabi Alonso August 20th 2004 10, 750, 000 Real Sociedad
Dirk Kuyt August 18 2006 9, 000, 000 Feyenoord
Albert Riera September 1 2008 8, 000, 000 Espanyol
Andrea Dossena July 2008 8, 000, 000 Udinese
Peter Crouch July 20th 2005 7, 000, 000 Southampton
Lucas Leiva 11 May 2007 6, 750, 000 Gremio
Jermaine Pennant July 26 2006 6, 700, 000 Birmingham City
Martin Skrtel 11 January 2008 6, 500, 000 Zenit St Petersburg

How many are Spanish? Three?
Yamsy (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Wow.... Good call.... I didn't expect that...
Lfc4life (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Its a very gud deal for class players like riera, skrtel, alonso  On the other hand keane, babel, dossenna
Juno (AC Milan) 2 years ago
Ant, Let me correct you.

Josemi £2m
Antonio Nunez £2m
Xabi Alonso £10. 7m
Luis Garcia £6m
Fernando Morientes £6. 5m
Antonio Baragan Compensation fee
Jose Reina £6m
Miquel Roque free
Alvaro Arbeloa £2. 64m
Fernando Torres £20m

10 Spanish signings. Not just 3. I would count free signings as a signing also, since if any free signings make it big, then somehow ppl will say he has an eye for talent. Of the 10, only 3 makes it. All are not cheap. Reina as a keeper for 6 mil is not cheap(during then), Alonso haven't make it big yet came for 10 mil. Torres is always consider a gamble at 20 mil (Its a bargain now). The rest of the contingent are mostly flops or just fine.
Yamsy (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Hey, if it works.... Why stop it?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
But why get them if as soon as they get good they leave. You arr not gonna' get any player that really hot because those players want to play in spain! In telling you torres will be next. Either to barca or real madrid
Thomas1978 (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Well, like all mangers, some deals are bound to great while some will go the other way.

Skrtel, Riera, Torres, Alonso, Agger, Kuyt are great buys, excellent.

The rest have been disappointing especially Babel and Keane. Hope Johnson will turn out to be a good signing. He has the makings of a great player. Aquilani looks to be a real prospect too.

This is a big season for Lucas I think, with Alonso gone now, he will have more playing time I think.

I believe and I have faith, Toress will live, get old, and die under Liverpool. He loves LFC, why would he leave?
