Was Ian Rush The Best Striker Ever To Play For Liverpool?
StadeNyonnais (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I think he is definately uip there in the midst of legendary liverpool strikers, probably one of the most consistant strikers to roam this earth. He scored almost 90% of his goals in the bottom corner, sidenetting. Unbelievable.

I know that owen and torres spring to mind nowadays when you think liverpool strikers, because they are more prolific, but rush is a legendary striker and will never be forgotten by true liverpool fans

For Stricker, only the statistics speak
346 goals in 660 games played with Liverpool FC, he was the top scorer in the history of the club.
What we do an average of 1 goals every 2 games for 15 years. It's fantastic
On3two (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Completely agreed. Sure it is how they play and what they do for a club that is important but goals are the most important thing a striker is based on, his goal stats speak for itself

He's the most prolific. But I think mighty mouse and King Kenny are better
Yogan (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Torres is an amazingly big contender but I don't really think he will beat the prolific records that Ian Rush has set. He is prolific and a legendary goalscorer. Owen as well can be counted as a great player because he was excellent and most people will say he was good for his age at that time. Ian Rush scored absolutely loads of goals as Liverpool's top scorer and I really respect him and look up to him. I watch videos of him on Youtube because as the best striker ever for Liverpool based on facts you can easily learn how to finish like I'm by watching videos on him and watching him placing the ball in to the net with such precision. I really think he is the best ever Liverpool player, and not just striker. Torres may overcome him some time soon in the future but for now we can cerainly count him as the best striker and player ever for the Reds. He was mighty and strong and never gave up. I think he was really powerful and really was mainly the one who guided Liverpool to all their titles at that time despite other players

I don't know about that. If torres stays with pool for the remainder of his career he just might be able to beat rush's record

Its unlikely in today's football. After Rafa leaves, Torres may one day be tempted back to Spain

Ian Rush is without a doubt, in my mind, the best striker Liverpool has ever produced, but I think Steven Gerrard and "The King" Kenny Dalglish are better players. King Kenny and Ian Rush won so many trophies together it is hard to say Dalglish is better, but I think he was just more naturally gifted than Rush

Totally Agreed

The best in my lifetime have been Rush, Fowler and Owen. None of their post-Anfield careers could ever match up.

Robbie Fowler was the one that I managed to see the most, though. Unfortunately, most times I saw him he was dismantling the Villa defence! I have never laid eyes on a more clinical and natural finisher than Robbie Fowler.

But Torres has the potential to overtake him, I think. He shows the same coolness in and around the box but he has a much more professional attitude outside of the game, as far as I can see

And torres shows so much more technical ability than the three you have mentioned. I'm not sure if any of those strikers would have scored that goal torres did against blackburn (then again I don't think any of them would have tried it even)

Blueskiesahead is right
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
For me its either fowler, dalgish or torres. But rush sure is the fastest scorer of liverpool

No doubt about Rush.... He was amazing.... I watched 2 months ago some of the old Liverpool matches! He was the goalgetter nr. 1.... When Torres keeps on then he is on the way to be the best player of Liverpools history
Tony (Manchester United) 2 years ago
I would say but for robbie fowlers injury, he would have surpassed them all, never the same player after his injury. Hence they got shot of him
Donnchadh (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Fowler is one of the most naturally gifted footballers I have ever watched play, alongside Matthew Le Tissier, they just have such perfect technique. Fowler's ability to finish with both feet still amazes me to this day
Seantoon (Newcastle United) 2 years ago
I think Rush was the best in terms of scoring goals for Liverpool!
Donnchadh (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and now Fernando Torres are all world class strikers, and they have all done great things for the club, but none of them have ever won a league title with Liverpool. Rush won countless trophies with Liverpool including the European cup twice and I doubt that, with Torres being one of the greatest strikers in the world right now, even Fernando could break Rush's goal record of 346 for the club
Smithybhoy83 (Celtic) 2 years ago
Couldn`t tell you who is the best between rush and dalglish, however who is the best combination of strikers to play for liverpool. Both rush and dalglish had good partners up front when they played, also fowler and owen would be near the top of the list
Derby22 (Derby County) 2 years ago
They both really good contenders but I think by about 1 percent torres is a titch bit better
Devang (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Torres is a bit better then rush I would say.... I never got to see rush play as much as Torres I have seen him only in past videos scoring some beautiful goals.... From them I can say he was a clinical finisher.... On the other hand Robbie Fowler was also one of my all time favorite.... But my vote would go to Torres as he is a complete striker excellent pace, finishing, height, ball control, headers, strength to hold off a defender.... You name it and he has it...

Rushie had a great record for Pool. He is the Lineker kind of striker, never doing much but a real predator in the box. The modern equivalent would be Fillipo Inzaghi.

However I do think the game has moved on and Rushie would not be that successful in the modern game. The game now requires players with more technical skills and alot more pace and power, all which Rushie lacks.
