Honestly, I think he should have left, or been kicked out by now. This season has been terrible, last season he was just lucky chelsea was under the management of scolari while manchester was several games behind because of the club world cup. The only thing benitez has to his name is his champions league and lets face it, there was no real tactical changes or managerial genious involved there.
It was all gerrard and every liverpool fan knows that. Liverpool is a club that should be succeeding at the highest level possible. They should be challenging every season for the title. They arent. Last season was the first real go they've had at it and they certainly did not build on that this season. Liverpool fans deserve so much more than just "we'll get em next season" constantly.
They deserve better than simply challenging for champions league spots and settling for that. They deserve better than silly excuses. Its time for someone who's up for the task of returning liverpool to their past glories to take the place of the man who has done nothing for the club over his 7 seasons at the helm
All this talk of brining back Heskey, It's as if the club is moving backwards not moving foward's and brining the premier league title back to Anfield where it belongs
I will get slated for this I know but I don't care my team is in the running again.
Liverpool is an embarrassment and has been as long as Mr be has been in charge. Time after time he has coached a team, overflowing with talent, to mediocrity. Now as a Man UTD fan that is fine for me - go for it, give us one less team to worry about come title time - but surely The Kop must be jack of it. Liverpool should steamroller most clubs, especially first division sides. If squads are a problem then surely it is down to him also. They have to plan for injuries. I know it is hard when the best players go down, but the big clubs weather the storms. It never seems like Liverpool can perform without Stevie and more recently Fernando - whom I wish would have come to us as I think he deserves to win something one day. I know they have our [ManU] measure sometimes but so did Burnley. Liverpool seem like a mid-table club to me sometimes. I don't think it should be a question of "should he go? ", but rather "who should replace him? "
The other point I would like to make is that I can no longer rib any of my Liverlovin' mates - it just isn't fair and they don't like it when you try and console them. Seeing as I am one of the few Reds fans around here I can barely hold a decent football conversation anymore. Lucky I recently met a Spurs fan!
"Liverpool is an embarrassment and has been as long as Mr be has been in charge. "
I can't disagree enough. How can you say that Rafa is mediocre? I can only assume you're spending your time trying to get a reaction out of the Liverpool fans on here, and that's a pretty obnoxious way to use the forums.
How long have you been watching football? Last season, Rafa came second in the Premier league, a handful of points away from winning it. A few seasons ago, he won the Champions league. He won the FA cup and charity shield in 2006.
For Ferguson's first six or seven years at United, he was winning nothing, finishing the league in 11th place or similar. The fans hated him, calling for his sacking after every match.
Learn your history, or keep your unfounded slanders to the Man united board
He a very talented manager, no doubt. The problem I have with him is in the transfer market. For me, he needs more money and better sense on where to spend it. Historically, he has some pretty awesome signings (Reina, Torres, Alonso (sold him like a fool), etc). But recently.... Eh not so much. Glen Johnson was a good pickup. But: Aquilani bleh.... Keane bleh.... Dossena bleh.... Lucas blehh (I just don't see how he can be starting for Liverpool). Anyway, that's the problem I have with Rafa, he's got to do better on his signings or get better results so no one can complain about it. Liverpool have been getting unlucky this season, losing Gerrard and Torres for a while there (let's face it, they are the heart and soul of this Liverpool team.... Without them they are not world class). So you can't place all of the blame on Benitez.... He's actually done quite well for having to fight the owners every step of the way. Liverpool would be foolish to offload him. He's a world class manager hitting some tough times this season. Anyway, that's my rant on it
Alonso: "sold like a fool", Alonso wanted to leave! Benitez admittedly did try and offload him a few seasons back for Barry but this time Alonso gave him no choice...
For Maya0708s information, Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 this season, beat them 4-1 last season and finished second in 08/09. And your team has just been kicked out of the FA Cup by Leeds!
Anyway, back to the subject and personally I think it is partly his (Rafa's) fault. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres' injuries weren't his fault, but the injuries were partly the reason. But, Benitez played a huge part in the selling of Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, which have affected the team very badly. We thought they were beginning to build their season back up with that win against Aston Villa but obviously they are shaky away - very shaky. I think if Mark Hughes is sacked for Manchester City after what he's done then the Liverpool boss should certainly be fired
I was one of the guys who thought that Rafa was the main reason for our problems But I've understood it is not so.How can you blame him or fire him just because of one poor season not even one just a half to say it exactly. It is Rafa who has lifted the standards of Liverpool,I have to say.Liverpool needs him,He is not just a mediocre coach but a great coach. If we give him some time he'll join the greats like ferguson,Wenger etc. As Ant said, even ferguson had a poor start winning nothing,Atleast Rafa has managed a champions league which itself a great achievement.Only after the arrival of Catona, man utd were able to win the league,If not Even Ferguson may have ended as a Mediocore manager. Coming to the current problem,Rafa cannot be blamed completely.Though he made a few mistakes,he is not the root cause of all the troubles. Not enough funds and Injury crisis are the root causes. If you see the last summer transfer window,he actually didn't spend anything.I mean his spending is neutralized by selling xabi. And only because of this our squad lacks depth. If you want to know more resons why Rafa shouldn't be fired,Read the following article-"Finding The Real Reason For Our Poor Form And Why Benitez Has To Stay" But it is way tooooooooo long.
Actually, I was a guy who just thought Rafa is a stupid, not knowing the facts. The history tells a different story-it stresses that all the top class managers like Fergie were once worser than Rafa. No one should forget what Rafa did in 2005. No one should forget the previous season. Rafa has turned Liverpool into a more organised and a motivated side. And a most important thing is the affection and the commitment he has for the club. Its only January, so moaning and asking him to leave the club is ridiculous. Injuries and Stupid owners-thats has sparked this debate. Rafa is a very good manager, give him some time. Or give him good owners who atleast care about the club-Rafa would have been a top class manager by now. So stop moaning and start believing
I think liverpool will keep hold of him until the summer, regardless if he manage to win the fa cup of or quilifies for the champions league. He has really messed it up this summer & he can't hide from it, it was his fault alonso wanted out & his fault he bought an injury crocked player to replace him, while lucas is certainly not good enough! He has one world class striker who only has gerrard as another potent striking force to join him
Hi all - sorry I have been on holiday and been out of touch for a week so I couldn't reply.
Ant: I have been watching football for a long time and for years all I have heard from the pundits is that Raffa should change his style to win more matches. His substitution policies were always in question and I think vindicated by total trophies won. As far as Sir Alex goes he was lucky to take charge in an era that allowed a bit more time to sort things out. I think that era is well and truly over [re Paul Hart at QPR to name one]!
Yogan09: I acknowledge that Liverpool have our measure on occasion and to be frank I am glad of it, without stiff competition the league would be a far duller place. Those results you mentioned just aren't good enough in my humble. If they came second last season they really should be there again this season, be honest a good manager would build on that success. By the way Liverpool were beaten by Reading. ManU have no excuses for their defeat against Leeds I admit.
I am not trying to wind up anyone I promise - since leaving the UK this website is the only avenue I have for a decent chat about football. I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable guy in the park but I have been to a fair few matches and I was in the pub most Saturdays watching games over a pint and a burger. If Mr be is not mediocre then the players must be and I just can't see that. Stevie G and co are thrilling to watch in full flight some of the best players in the world played for Liverpool. They lacked consistency for a long time and just when they looked like showing some - pooofff - all gone. 10 from 20 common it is time to have a long hard look at the situation. Perhaps new owners is the answer, I understand they are not happy as a unit upstairs.
Thanks for the responses, I never mean to offend so I hope none was taken, always happy to be educated.
Let him go - cut him loose - kick him out, all he is doing now and in the past seasons is damaging the club. He is making the "brand " liverpool fading away, both international and domestically.... Skip the jerk!
I kinda feel the Liverpudians doesn't care more for this topic than the Man Utd fans, hence more Man Utd fans commenting.... Maybe deep down in Man Utd fans heart, they would prefer to face Liverpool to the title than any other EPL teams due to the long rivalry between the 2 clubs.
I honestly believe he should leave.... He's holding up the matter. He should have been fired. Liverpool fans can sit and moan about how they are being faithful and he has done this and that, but guess what? He IMO doesn't know who to play or when to pay or even who to buy, its like he got confused or something. Not saying that Liverpool doesn't try.... They do you can clearly see that but they are not being managed well. Sometimes they look like chickens without a head. This one win here and there is just stalling the matter...
