Jozy Scores His First Premiere Leage Goal For Hull City
Donnchadh (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I am immensely happy for him. Jozy Altidore, whose parents are Haitan, dedicated the goal to Haiti and it's people. Cheers Jozy, good stuff that is! I wish I could have watched the match live, I have been pulling for him to get this goal all season, I would have been ecstatic. For it to come at a time like this in his life is probably meant to be. He kissed his Haiti and US arm bands in celebration and tribute. Hopefully he will start scoring more goals for his club now that he's got his first goal in the league. I am sure there was a lot of pressure on him to score. Good for you Jozy. And to think the kid is only a year older than I am. I think he is a great player, I hope the people of Hull think the same. It is great to see Americans in the game of football, and Jozy scoring was good for everyone in the US and Haiti, surely this will do great things for his confidence. Kudos Jozy, you have done two nations proud with that goal, and one City haha. Hopefully he can help Hull finish in a higher position than last year, which would thus be the highest in their history.

On a side note, it is great to see so many natives of the US playing well in Europe, and England especially. Football is the greatest game in the world, and for years I feel like America has been missing out on some of the fun the whole world was having. Now there are some players form the US making a real impact in the game, great to see. Brad Friedel was immense in Villa's draw against Tottenham today. I feel like Fulham may be missing Clint Dempsey a little bit right now. And of course Altidore helped his team win against Manchester City, thus helping Liverpool's fight for fourth spot, yes! I actually didn't see the derby today(too early over here, too much beer to wake up at that time) so I don't know how Donovan played today. I would hope well even though I would never wish him that before the game, just after once I know we won haha. I am sure Timmy Howard was a beast as he always is, even though Kuyt kind of pushed him about in the box today haha, good work by the way Dirk.

Now I can hope Charlie Davies will get fit and start doing his thing again in Sochaux. It would be great to see him playing in the same fashion he had been before his injury. He was in great form.

Anyways, three cheers for Jozy Altidore, god knows he needs it know more than ever

Yeah, he maybe should be in the USA wc 2010 team but he needs to find form first! Good thread
SirStig (Arsenal) 2 years ago
He will be because we have no other strikers. Eddie Johnson is useless, Charlie Davies won't make it back in time and Brian Ching can't do anything else but hold the ball and get on the end of crosses
Tintifra (Seattle Sounders) 2 years ago
Charlie Davies might make it back in time but he might also struggle for form if he does. I agree with you about the uselessness of the other strikers. Jozy is hugely important if the usmnt is going to do anything in the WC
Eric (Manchester United) 2 years ago
You can say that again. Good for him indeed. Jozy has really not performed up to his abilities with Hull and I'm glad to see that the goals are now finally coming. The reason the US national team has gotten so much better is due to the players that have gotten training in the European leagues. With Dempsey, Donovan now, Spectre, Howard, and Jozy in the EPL and others elsewhere, it leaves a lot of quality on the international pitch come World Cup time

I can only hope so. Davies is supposed to be fit as well. That will be hugely inspiring for us, it will be a true miracle. But I am happy for Jozy, it is great for him to score after this tragedy struck. Jozy and Charlie tear it up together too, hopefully Charlie can recover and Jozy find his goal scoring feets haha
Gbherron (Seattle Sounders) 2 years ago
Great for him. It's just really hard to find a system he would fit in. Truly, one of the only systems is Arsenal. Jozy is a true Center Forward, and plays for the US with Davies and Donovan, two extremely quick players, on either side of him. Arsenal really are rubbish when there is no one to hold the ball so Arshavin and Walcott can run around him
SirStig (Arsenal) 2 years ago
Jozy would bring that extra bit of edge to the Arsenal attack. He's probably as strong as Adebayor, as in he can stay on his feet and not be bullied by the center backs. Plus he's got the height, which Arsenal need badly lol. But he still needs more experience
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 years ago
More Experienced? Lool Have you taken a look at Arsenal's squad lately? The last thing I think Wenger's worried about is experience, actually he doesn't appear to be worried about anything at the moment so why would he want Altidore? Anyway this is a pointless debate since it'll never happen (at least anytime soon)
SirStig (Arsenal) 2 years ago
He's got a striker crisis at the moment because Arshavin or Bendtner isn't gonna' cut it
Gbherron (Seattle Sounders) 2 years ago
Jozy is still only 20. It just seems like he's older because he's really big and broke out with NYRB at 17
SirStig (Arsenal) 2 years ago
Its about bloody time, 18 games and he hasn't scored till now. He needs to keep performing or else Villareal are going to let go of him. Good for him though because I like him and a few more goals should help his confidence for sure. He's a lot like Brian Mcbride and I think he can develop to be even better than him
Gbherron (Seattle Sounders) 2 years ago
And Villareal letting go of him would be bad? Personally, I think a more low-key Euro team or a move back to MLS would be best for him
SirStig (Arsenal) 2 years ago
For all the money, like 1 or 1. 5 million I think, they've spent on him, he should be trying to prove that he's actually worth that price. But anyway I agree with you, he shouldn't have left MLS that early. He was doing pretty good before he left and he probably could have learned more from playing alongside Juan Pablo Angel
ScooterHayes (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Personally I think Hull is taking a liking to him. He's not a big scorer, but he has been useful up front at times, and he loves the Premier. If he finds a higher form this season (or aids Hull with staying in the Premiership in any way) I expect him to stay at Hull
Raj (Chelsea) 2 years ago
That was a sweetly taken goal too, just slotted it into the net. Not remniscent of a guy who hasn't scored in 18 games, the way he scored it. I was concerned about him a little when Hull played Chelsea in the game before. These matches almost always have a story in them, when a relatively smaller team takes on one from the top 10.

You could see that it meant a lot of him and he was proud of the fact that he was a Haitian, recalling him say that his people have something to cheer about, or something in those lines. Has all the characteristics to play in the premier league, big build, physicality suits Hull if they decide to play the long ball, his touch and awareness can only get better as time goes. If he starts scoring from that goal on, it could mean encouraging signs for the USA. Donovan is already showing he is capable of playing at the very top level with a great performance against Liverpool, providing some good runs. Clint Dempsey not being injured for the WC is a huge relief for their hopes. I wouldn't be surprised if the USA had a good run in the WC. Good collective play as a team, which was rather apparent in the Confederations Cup.... May not be the best technically but more than make up for it by grit and effort along with a physically fit team. You'll have me cheering, I always go for the underdog . Good thread Pirate, Altidore would be pleased to see his efforts being recognised, if he ever strays into footytube

Great to see Jozy get on the board. I've alsways said Jozy was a kid that just needs a good mentor. Someone to raise him up. Perhaps like SirStig said, the move out of the MLS was too early for Josey, but I wished he had been picked up before the MLS got a hold of him. If he had come up through a solid academy, played reserves, the kid would be unstoppable now. Cheers to ya Jozy Altidore!
