Its All Over For The Reds
Yogan (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Well, I had to say it some time. Yesterday they lost to Wigan (ouch) 1-0 and it shouldn't have happened. They had both torres and gerrard on the pitch but they didn't put away their chances, not just because Wigan were rock solid in defence (they were), but because they just didn't go well as a team.

Liverpool slip to 6th today, although they are still one point behind fourth placed Tottenham. Of course, they have a game in hand, against Blackburn who are their next opponents. Manchester City are currently above them, level on points, but have two games in hand in which they can move into 4th place, 6 points in front of Liverpool.

But that isn't all. Aston villa, behind liverpool by 3 points, have an incredible 3 games in hand over liverpool, in which they too can move 6 points ahead of Liverpool.

Is it all over?

I think your starting to forget previous seasons. This kind of story always seems to happen. A team doesn't live up to expectations for most of the season and they're already counted as done and dusted. Liverpool is a quality side though. And while tottenham and city have been great this season, neither have been really consistent. Now technically city only has 1 game in hand over liverpool (since pool has a game in hand as well) and villa has two games in hand over them. And who's to say that either team will win all those games, and the ones after them? Who's to say city won't have a bunch of injuries over the next few weeks or tottenham's form won't drastically drop from the level its at now over the coming months? Who's to say that some freak accident won't happen to villa's friedel? There are still a few months left in the season during which anything can happen. Now with all that said, pool is done next season (cl-place-wise anyways) if they don't make it into 4th at the end of the year considering their lack of funds and dwindling amount of players that are striving to play for liverpool. All I have to say is that who will come in 4th is anyones guess, and I guess that no matter who does it, this season is proving to be one of the most exciting yet

First Of all.... How dare you make this thread when I was gonna'.

I believe it aint all over. As for mancity and the rest, they can dream. But that fourth spot will look more realistic in coming weeks, come on. But I do agree, its fraustrating watching these games.

I watched the wigan one, we had alot of chances. One fell to torres, but he hit the post. Also you forget skyrtel is injured, and he has been fit all season round. So he was a blow
Tony (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Wigan had a bucketload of chances sergio, and deserved to win by more.
It is one of the worst liverpool teams I can remember, in fact I think it is the worst.
I have watched some brilliant liverpool teams down the years, and what has happened to liverpool is a disgrace, you have two yank owners who havent a clue, like my own team.... Lol, a manager who HAS spent big money, and wasted most of it, and the old bootroom tradition has gone from the club, as rafa has brought half of spain with him to anfield, I think at ther last count there was something like 40+ spanish backroom staff employed at anfield.
I think they will struggle for 4th position this season, they have a really hard week, after the pompey game, they play again on thurs night against lille, and a lot will depend on that score, as how they play against man utd on sunday, if they win, it will give them a lift going into the utd game, if they go out of the europa cup, god only knows what the reaction could be, utd could hammer them if their heads are down, it will be an interesting end to the season
Ant (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I don't think the problems you listed are the reasons for the drop-off this year. How do you justify the fact that last season - same manager, same owners, same backroom staff, almost the same players, Liverpool were either top of the league or fighting for top place - just barely losing out in the final run of games?
ScooterHayes (Chelsea) 2 years ago
A lot of people accredit your troubles this year to the loss of Xabi Alonso. I think there's a case for that, and that when he went out nobody came in to fill the void, but I think it's just been the midfield off it's game and regular upsets that have done it.

There doesn't feel like a good explanation. There are 3 teams playing upper-level football in Villa, City and Tottenham; maybe they have just made it harder to exist on the top end.

Along with that I would couple in trying to exist in the UCL. They did not make it very far this year. Between a war at home, on the road, etc.... I think it was asking too much for a squad with as much uumph as it has

It is hard.... Very hard for us now. As Blueskiesahead said there are too many factors which can change the whole program. Aston Villa, ManCity & Tottenham seem to play good football recently but there's no guarantee that they keep playing so. Our guys are now under a very very important decision: either they start to be more concentrated and focus on the gameplay or they will lose everything!

Liverpool's current season has made for some very interesting entertainment this year. I'll go so far as saying it isn't over yet lads, just sit back and watch what happens. If you're a Liverpool fan all you can do is hope for the best
Rockerr (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Not Impossible but very hard. We need some good luck which we have been lackin this whole season and hard work.
At this moment, city definitely has a better chance of finishing in top 4. But they have some tough matches ahead and I'm sure that they'll loose another 3 or 4 games. All liverpool have to do is to win all the remaining 9 matches and I think that is the hardest part.
But I hope that we can do it

I don't know. But I don't think "Its all over". Its still too early i'd say.... City, Villa and the Spurs definitely will falter in several occasions, trust me. I don't know what Liverpool are gonna' do either;but I hope they don't falter and keep on winning. All in Rafa's hands now, make the ship steady and the top 4 is yours, captain. I want to remind you guys again, football is an unpredictable game, anything may happen. Liverpool are a club with passion, and got a good history and heritage as well. Has stunned the world more than on an occasion.
So, you might be even tired of hearing this statement, but its the truth - Hard but not impossible
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
On the lille game. How the hell did torres miss the header? And how did that ball bounce pass riena withought no one getting a touch?
Ant (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Now's the time for real Liverpool fans to man up and support their team when they need you most. A lot of football is about confidence. The main reason Liverpool missed so many goals against Lille was confidence, and intense pressure from the media and from some of their fans.

Think back three or four months ago, everyone was making the exact same topics "Oh its all over now, it's terrible blah, blah". Then everyone went very quiet for ages when we ground out win after win, clean sheets etc.

Let's just see how it goes without the doom-and-gloom coming from other clubs fans who are enjoying their recently earned moment in the sunshine
Aliko (Barcelona) 2 years ago
Those who love their Club will stay behind them and keep supporting them till the last breath!
Juno (AC Milan) 2 years ago
Liverpool must really the Jekeyll and Hyde team of recent years. Doing fantastic(though not winning the league) one year, failing expectations the next. Its must be really tired following their run in the league because you will never know which version of Liverpool decides to turn up
Ant (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Rafa played an attacking formation today, leaving Lucas and Kuyt on the bench. We won 4-1, and it could have been about 10-1 because we hit the bar and post about six times, as well as at least two clear penalties turned down. All in all, more positive football. Torres looked sharp, Aquilani creating and scoring goals
Eric (Manchester United) 2 years ago
We'll see how you guys are really doing when you come up against United this weekend. Think it'll be a thrashing like it was last season? I wouldn't expect one. Hard to judge Liverpool's form when the best game you've had in some time was by thrashing Portsmouth at home. I look forward to the match anyway. I expect to return the favor of last years matchup via Rooney and Valencia. The memory of that match still stings
Ant (Liverpool) 2 years ago
We were doing miserably earlier this season too, but we still pulled the win out of the bag against United. Hard to know what will happen really. A draw would be the worst for both teams. I just don't want to see any injuries. Hopefully Vidic will keep his head on his shoulders - I'm sick to death of seeing him being sent off against Liverpool
Eric (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Jesus you're telling me. Liverpool somehow find some way to come out on top against United even when they're in poor form. Something about the Red Devils just brings the best out in them
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I think its the spirit and determination in some key indivisuals like kuyt and carragher. I don't know its strange how poor we play againts low calibur teams but some how pull out wins againts the big guns.

Aliko (Barcelona) 2 years ago
like against ManU we beat them everytime
Dodgymanc (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Especially after today, losing to us, and with City and Spurs winning, top four won't be easy for Liverpool. Granted, all thier remaining games (bar Chelsea) are definitely winnable, and City have games including Everton, United, Arsenal, Villa and Tottenham to play....

Maybe they will all take points off each other, leaving Liverpool to sneak in there, but as a United fan, I hope they don't!
RonanKnows (Arsenal) 2 years ago
Couldn't you at least beat United? At least Chelsea dropped points, I guess
Saumilsachdeva (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Well Liverpool are back to best now.... With Torres scoring and fit players 'Pool is looking good.... But still the truth is that We will not get 4th spot !
Ant (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Until its mathematically impossible we should be expecting to
Saumilsachdeva (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Well it'll be good to be positive !
