With Man City I don't think it would ever be 442 Barry and Yaya as holing midfielders Milner Silva and Aguero constantly changing in a fluid formation with Milner slighty more defensive and Ageuro much more attacking. With Balotelli as the single striker to bang them in with his shoulder
I don't think Nasri and Silva together in the mid is strong enough defensively, even with toure behind them. Xavi and Iniesta are small but they are strong when playing defense--more so, they hardly have to play defence b/c they keep the ball so well.
I agree. A lot. To me, he is a capable man, although I sometimes find myself not being able to decide whether he is very good, or around the good and below threshold. I'm often pessimistic about him, but lately I've been telling myself to calm that and look at him with a little bit more of a kind eye.
Would you say he is the manager to take them forward. We've been with him long enough to form an opinion on that. Also, do you think the Man City hierarchy are being a bit too easy on him. I think so
Goalkeeper: Has to be Joe Hart. He is top class. And his performance against Liverpool just showed why he is so highly rated
Defence: Micah Richards has to be the right back. I really do not get why he picks Zaboletta in the Champions League because Richards is just solid. He is a monster at the back and scary going forward. To be honest he should be in the England. The 2 Centre Halfs have to be Kompany and Lescott. They have been brilliant at the back this season albeit the own goal against Liverpool. And the Left back has to be Kolarov. Just becuz he offers more going forward.
Midfield: I would keep the 3 man midfield because it works for them so I would put De Jong as the anchor man because he is solid. And Yaya and Nasri as the two creative central midfields.
Roberto Mancini has a great track record in domestic competitions and if one were simply to look at his arsenal of silverware and the fact that Man City are top of the EPL table with a pretty extensive undefeated run then it would be easy to place him right up there with some of Europe's elite managers. But if we delve a little deeper and look at his performance team by team, game by game over the past years we see there are unusual episodes of blunder through pure tactical errors and too many wasted opportunities. On top of that we see repeated cases of insurrection amongst his players and yet we never ask why? Because Mancini never gives tactical/strategic identity to the team therefore players are never sure where they belong and what role they should play. He prefers to continue adapting to the situation with different tactics and styles of play. This may sound great but at the moment we see that the best teams are the ones who have a solid system of play and force others to adapt to THEM. Mancini has the capacity to emulate this, he is currently sitting on a manger's gold mine. He has an excellent squad, unlimited funds, the unequivocal support of the ownership and a sturdy fan base to support him and his players; yet despite his good fortune he continues to blunder in the Champions league and delivers a team that pulls through on sheer fire power rather than finesse and technical superiority. In order to build a coherent strategy he should remember a few things: (1) that strikers win games but defenders win championships: a solid back four is key to winning a league (Arsenal is finally coming to terms with this reality as well) (2) technical football is reliant on midfield power, striking power is nothing without it.... The heart of the team must be in midfield (3) There is no shame in emulating another manager or another teams style of play especially not when you can pull it off.
1)The back four is up for grabs, he has so many talented defenders its hard to choose though Kompany is must have 2) I put Yaya Toure in the defensive mid-fielders position because he has the most experience with this formation and the technical, fluid style of play that is required from his time at Barcelona where he excelled. 3) David Silva and Samir Nasri are my Xavi and Iniesta. They are the core of this team. I believe that with their gifted touch, passing, dribbling, intelligence and pace they definitely have the skills to pull it off. Just a matter of time, practice and confidence. 4) The attacking trio are chosen because of their dynamism. In this strategy the front three must be interchangeable. Balotelli is a goal scorer but he has also his ability to play like this when he was at inter and recently through some slick interplay around the box area that shows his versatility. Adam Johnson is a traditional winger who loves to cut in so he will be natural at this and Aguerro.... Well he was simply made for this. Aguerro is in the centre because he has the best positional awareness and intelligence and that is vital for the central striker but remember that this is a fluid formation so during a game they will all be switching around.
