I don't whether you mean the 05-06 season when Liverpool won it or the 06-07 season when Chelsea won it. If it's Chelsea then I'm gonna' go with Paulo Ferreira. I was gonna' say Bosingwa but, I'm not sure if he was on Chelsea at that time
I was a member of one of the most successful German teams of the 70s. I was recognized for having one of the game's hardest shots, with one of the more famous goalies of that era claiming that he feared my shots. Finised runner-up in the champions league and won the UEFA Cup with my team. I am the only player in history to have 3 medals from the Euro Cup, and the only one with 2 gold medals. Who am I?
Well I was thinking der bomber after the first two but both he and Beckenbauer won the champions league multiple times for Bayern Munchen. I was thinking Uwe Seeler but he more old school than the 70s I think his last WC was in 1970. Maybe Karl Hieze Rummeniger but he maybe a little later
Rainer Bonhof. Although in his first European Championship, he was called for the team, but he never played, but Germany still won. He played in Borussia Mönchengladbach during the 70's, which was also their golden decade. They won many bundesligas aswell
Luq, Völler isn't exactly a 'forgotten player' - in fact he's one of the most celebrated players of that era.
I don't get it Sam: Beckenbauer for example has at least won the European Cup three times, and I assume he's been runner-up once at least. So is your last clue wrong, or am I that wrong? I was thinking of players that played in Bayern and the German national team during and shortly after Franz, but they too all won it 3 times, not twice (and another time where they ended 2nd or 3rd), like you said
Rainer Bonhof is the right answer- he was a member of the successful Borussia Mönchengladbach side of the 70s winning 4 Bundesliga titles; he also won the Euro Cup in 1972 and 1980 and was a runner-up in 1976
I roam the line, I am expected to lay them on a plate. All I see are curls in front my face. Oh, the heady days when I was expected to lead the front line.
The only curly haired winger I can think of is Guardado at the moment. Not bad since the only other curly haired players I can think of are David Luiz, and Milito
What the hell? Which part of 'think NOW' didn't you understand? Curls is the only thing you have managed to hold on to. Clogs = where are they from, hmm, Holland. Current Dutch player playing in the Premier League. Has been pushed back as a winger but used to play as a striker. Ryan Babel? No, no curls, no recollection of him playing as a striker. Not even here any more. Wait, Dirk Kuyt? Yeah, you got it right. Great, thanks for the quiz. No problem mate
Dude, seriously, that can be anything. He's been to China and got sick from eating a bowl of rice and Leo hasn't. He's been drunk on his niece's wedding and Messi hasn't.
Haha, I love how every time someone tries to find a weak spot of Messi, he comes back to burn ya No offence Kim, just funny that once again Messi indirectly has proven he's awesome
I come from the land of opposites Where equality is wanted, but corruption fits Where the men are cold and the women hot Where the lakes are dry, but deserts are not Where a man wakes up as another goes to bed Where we walk in space, while people aren't fed.
They called me black, when I was white They praised my skill, when I had died They called me the best, when my team was at its worst But that might just be, because I am the first
My home is the land of 'pato', our national sport. I made 51 appearances for my nation, and scored 17 times. My initials are the same as those of the father of modern fantasy books. My brother was kidnapped when I was 24, which was one of the reasons I left my old club and went to a bigger one for € 11m. People praise me for my technique, having been called a 'gift from God', an 'artist on the field'
Once I looked up what pato was the national sport of(I was curious) the rest came to me. But that is cheating I will just say this is brilliant J, but you may want to say there is no T at the end of the player's name
My name is the same as the greatest player that has ever existed. However, that player isn't the kind of player you're thinking of. My second name is a reference to that first name
Cristiano Ronaldo Kaka Zinedine Zidane Luis Figo Gigi Bufon Fernando Torres Alan Shearer Hernan Crespo Robinho Rio Ferdinand Andy Carroll Roberto Baggio
IIRC, Ibra never held the record, neither did Robinho.
Another couple of players I think of are: Luis Suárez (the Spanish one, who went to Inter from Barcelona) Johan Cruijff (Ajax to Barça) Maradona (Boca to Barça and then broke his own record from Barça to Napoli) Ruud Gullit (PSV to Milan) J-p Papin (Club Brugge legend, transferred to Marseille, then to Marseille to Milan for a then record fee) Alan Shearer (Blackburn -> Newcastle) Ronaldo (Barça -> Inter) And finally Kaká, who held the record for a short while before Ronaldo (the beachboy one) stole it
I thought he meant just in general. Because Robinho broke the British transfer record. Rio had it for a while. Torres has it atm. And Carroll most expensive English player

I am pretty positive Stevie G has scored 29 goals in the champions league. He has 38 in total in Europe, and if I have the stats right he has scored 29 in the Champioooonssss
I am not trying to step on your toes here, and I went and checked the champions league goal charts, it doesn't even say Stevie has 20, but check this out
I count zero UCL goals in 09/10 I count seven UCL goals in 08/09 Six in 07/08 Three in 06/07 Seven again in 05/06 Four in 04/05 0 in 02/03 And one in 01/02
I am no math wiz as I put 29 above but doesn't he have 28? What trips me out is that they don't even list him as having 20 in the champions league goal scoring all time lists are those stats just incorrect? Or am I reading the charts wrong or something
I saw it on a stat page that Gerrard has 20 goals while Scholesy and Rooney have 25. Did Gerrard score in any qualifiers? Maybe they don't count them like they do in the knockout rounds and the group stage
That could be, I am just curious about it. That could be a good answer, but I don't think Liverpool usually played in the qualifying rounds.
In 00/01 we finished 3rd We did finish fourth in 03/04 so maybe some of the four was in qualifiers We finished fifth in 04/05 but won the final, which gave us a birth into qualifiers of 05/06, Stevie scored all his goals in qualifying that season, maybe that is the solution?
I have been thinking for two days and I am gonna' say Kanchelskis he played for United and Everton. But I don't know if he has played for Celtic or Rangers.
Alright these are going to start off easier and get harder. I am just doing this off the top of my head so we will see how it plays out.
1.)give at least one nickname for Dennis Bergkamp
2.)What city was Maradona born in?
3.)What year was Steven Gerrard appointed captain of Liverpool Football Club?
4.)How many goals did Marco Van Basten score at the 98 Euro?
5.)What was the score of the famous fifth European Championship between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt which took place in Glasgow and who scored the goals for Madrid?
6.)Name the four players who have scored over 100 league goals for Barcelona
7.)There are four Liverpool players with over 200 league goals, name them
8.)Just Fontaine had 21 caps for his country, how many goals did he score for France?
2. Buenos Aires 3. 2004 6. Eto'o, Kubala, Ronaldinho and Messi 7. 3 of them are Dalgish, Gerrard and Fowler 8. 9 goals 9. Alexandre Pato 10. New Jersey
Can say right now that Ronaldinho is wrong for sure and that Fontaine scored 7 or 8 goals in a single World Cup so I can't see 9 being a realistic number. Pato is also just a nickname given to him because he came from a certain region of Brazil
Omg I know 5, The score was 6-3 with a hat trick from Puskas and Di Stefano respectively. Not sure.... Tryna not look at Wiki, but I remember going through allot the European cup finals from Madrid and this scoreline stood out
1. Flying Dutchman 2. Buenos Aires 3. 2004 4. 6 5. 7-3 Puskas and Di Stefano 6. Eto'o Messi Ronaldo and idk the rest 7. Dalglish Rush Fowler 8. 16 9. Alexandre Pato 10. New Jersey
1.) Kimaway was very very close but it isn't quite right for one of Dennis Bergkamp's nickname 2.) Buenos Aires is correct, nice 3.) Stevie G was first appointed captain in October of 2003, but 2004 is correct because it was the 03/04 season 4.) Kimaway got so close I have to give him props, it was five I believe a hat trick against England the winning goal against West Germany and of course the famous volley against the USSR, Van Basten was such a sublime player 5.)Kimaway nailed it, Ayyam very close it was 7-3 to Madrid with Di Stefano scoring a hat trick and Puskas getting four 6.) Sammy Eto'o, Messi and Kubala are correct, you are missing Barca's all time leading scorer in the league. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho didn't achieve a hundo 7.) Ian Rush is the only one who has been correct with 229 league goals. There are two players with more league goals than Rush but of course no one with more in all competitions. Again that's 200 + league goals, Fowler and Dalglish have 128 and 118 in the league respectively, good guesses and real legends at the club but not quite 200 goals 8.) I will just give the hint that he scored 13 goals in one World Cup in only six matches. Fontaine what a g, he is almost the all time leading scorer in the history of the WC only having played in one tournament haha. His ratio isn't that good for his whole career with France but it is better than a goal a game. 9.) Pato is just a nickname, but Alexandre is his real first name, I will wait and see if someone can guess the rest. 10.)Ya Giuseppe Rossi was born in New Jersey I think around Newark somewhere
1) Dennis the non-flying Dutchman (fear of flying!), the Iceman, Dennis the Menace, God.... I'm sure he has plenty more, but those are the ones I can think of right now. And yes, I am a big Bergkamp fan
I can't believe 6) hasn't been said yet: we may have a new star by the name of Alcántara now, but the greatest was of course Paulino Alcántara. Barça's all-time topscorer and he scored over 350 goals in exactly as many games. Suck on that, Messi.
7) Roger Hunt is one, Ian Rush another, but then.... Seems unlikely, but maybe Michael Owen is his 'pool days? Perhaps Robbie Fowler? Edit: just noticed Fowler was already wrongfully mentioned. Hmm.... Must be players from before the time football got interesting then
8) Just Fontaine is the record holder of most goals in a single World Cup with an astonishing 13 goals (I thought this was common knowledge for a football pundit). That means that in those 6 games, he averaged 2. 17 goals per game. Safe to say that'll never happen again in our lifetime. By that logic, he could've scored about 30-40 in those 21 caps he gathered?
I looked up 9) and it's really not guessable, it's just a common Brazilian last name really
Cesar Rodriquez also scored 195 league goals for Barcelona. Definitely Alcantara must have been an absolute g, 357 goals in as many games, I don't know technically if they were league goals or what, but both are Barca legends I am sure.
Ay to be sure J, I thought maybe Pragatish would come on here and know Pato's full name. Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva is his full name. Anybody on here know Ronaldinho's full name? I would guess there are a few haha.
As for the Liverpool question, nice J Roger Hunt is one, Gordon Hodgson and Billy Liddell are the others. Legendary stuff
Hum this one really has me stumped I have been thinking for a minute on it. Let me try and rack my brain and get the wheels spinning. Nothing is coming to me I will have to look it up and that means I can't guess anymore here of course
Nice one Kimaway, ya I looked it up, didn't even know Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank was Dutch, it doesn't sound Dutch at all to me, but good for you for getting it Kimaway, awesome
