Cristiano Ronaldo - Overrated?
Ltm017 2 years ago
I now this might be a sensitive topic for some but I have decided to bring it up anyway.

Just in general do you feel that Ronaldo is the greatest player now or will be the greatest player? I know some will take into account his attitude but putting that aside for a moment. Skill wise.... I think Ronaldo is a great player however I believe that in a few years he may not be the player everyone is making him out. Time will tell especially now that he is going to real madrid.

What makes him so amazing/great in the eyes of many? Even more so than others before him....

Anyone?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
I want people to tell me lol! I've been watching this sport for 15 years I has seen the likes of ortega leonardo rivaldo baggio del piero bergkamp zidane figo raul etc work so hard and played the game at a time where there were better defenders in the world and referees were more lenient and they do'nt deserve for 1 player to have a good season and be better than they are like seriously !
Eric (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Better defenders in the world? Defence has just disappeared these days huh?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
There is not a defender now that I would compare to the great defenders of the past
Eric (Manchester United) 2 years ago
You could say the same for those great defenders when they were playing
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Teams are strugling to get really good defenders now really are you for real right now do I have to go back and show you every single good team 4 defenders for you t oh acknowledge them
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 years ago
I disagree look at the days of Pele, one of the reasons he's good is because The defenders jumped three feet out of the way when you did on small fake
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Pele? Come down some more years please you know I'm not talking about those days don't even pull that! Pele is the creator he paved the way for everyone to follow please don't bring the god of football in this convo it insulting to his worth to football
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 years ago
I know he's the God He was amazing and still would be today. I am just saying That he wouldn't be quite as good now. What I'm also saying is that the defenders where worse back then than now
Ltm017 2 years ago
This makes no sense. Have you seen when Ronaldo tries to show off with the ball? You are basically contradicting your statement right there manuk. You said Pele was great but that he wasn't really that great because people moved to the side when he came through....

You do see what you are implying right?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
I didn't mean pele day ny bad I should have said when
Adamaus (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Imo he is the most talented and skillful player in the world at the momment. He can do things that no-one else can do, even if people could do a few bits of what he can do they can't do everything he can.

Yes, he is immature, sometimes selfish, but over all noone is on his all round level.

Wether he will become a great player and continue improving, who knows, I mean he is still only 23 or 24 (or something). Only time will tell, just like time will tell with all players to see what they can achieve. He has just as good shot as anyone of becoming an all time great of the game
Cristiano9rocks (Real Madrid) 2 years ago
Yes, I agree he is the most skillful player In the world but some people are to ignorant to say so, if there was a player that was better, just because I like ronaldo, doesn't mean I would still say "ronaldo is better" I would say that the other was better and not act like a fool just because I hate the other player! "like some of you hate ronaldo"
Ltm017 2 years ago
Hate has nothing to do with it young man. Get past that fact. When a player is they are good no one can deny that no matter what they may feel about them. Just answer me one question. Why are people being called ignorant for thinking or having an opinion that Ronaldo is not in their opinion the greatest or best? Do you even know what ignorant means?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
I don't hate him he is just not as good as evreyone makes him out to be I seen to many great player play for this man to come and dance infront of the ball and say he's the best ! Little boy I was watching soccer before you were born please you know nothing of good players
Adamaus (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Well arnt you so high and mighty king, I wouldnt care if youve been on the planet since 1055 the begining of football doesn't mean you know what good players are, or do I have you wrong are you a scout for chelsea? No? Didn't think so. But then again you probley know more then them don't you? And everyone seems to be comparing ronaldo to the greats of football and saying he is or never will be a great, I have two things to say to that.

1. Football is an always changing game: Different to when players like Pele and Best played, comparing a player now to a player then is like comparing a Goalkeeper to a Rightwing player, it couldn't do it accuratley, because its all relative to the positions they play and they level of the game when there playing.

2. The level of the game is a lot higher now then it was 10-50 years ago, years ago most professionals still had another job, now footballers have one thing in there life and that is football. Players are fitter, more skillful, and generally better because they play a lot more, because coaches tell them things that the old coaches wouldnt have known etc...
Cristiano9rocks (Real Madrid) 2 years ago
Yes, Thanks what I was talking about! King just hates him so he has his own opinion about Ronaldo! Show me a player that is better than him king! If there is one I will restate my opinion about Ronaldo how he is the best player in the world! And who cares if you watched ever soccer game in history, you still have a bias against ronaldo, he is the best player in the world! If it could happen I would love to put ronaldo vs pele! And I think ronaldo would win, like adamaus said all they do is play soccer and get better at what they do in soccer!
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Please anyway I guess time will tell pray that he doesn't get injured though! And I'm not biased against ronaldo I just hates how everyone c*** rides him he himself doesn't think he that good! I use to love ronaldo until people like you made him annoying!

Cristiano9rocks (Real Madrid) 2 years ago
Ummm.... I would love to know how "people like us" make him annoying, All I am saying is that the fact is that he is #1 his skill is #1! Saying the truth is not annoying (well actually most of the time it is )!
Ltm017 2 years ago
Cause you act like he is the best to ever play. And truth you can't handle the truth...
Ragarsha (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I don't like CR9 a lot, but he is quite a good player and at times his performances are mesmerizing and at times I can't see a swimmer playing football.

He has got lot of skills but he shows most against small teams then great teams.
He is rated so high that even his team is losing all the fans expect him to turn the tables and if doesn't happen they curse him.
But the bottomline he is over-rated and he is not worth of 96m
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Idk babe! It is crazy he is already the best player ever to play the game but the only player to have done nothing to earn it!They say he is better that the old ronaldo I say how? They say he scored 42 goals in a season he won player of the year said is that it? They say he came to the toughest league in the world and prospered I say okay so he is the best player ever lol! They say fat ronaldo is fat so he is not good I say if the fat man is that bad why did he achieve so many things imagine if he were slim? The point of the matter is he has done nothing great and ronaldo has done nothing on the world stage for me other than getting rooney a red card lol! Great player win champoins league but legends win world cups lol!
Adamaus (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Its not ronaldos fault portugal arnt as good as brazil. I agree with you that CR9 isn't as good as fat ronaldo in his prime but you can't say ronaldo won't become a legend of the game for the reason that he hasnt won a world cup
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
He has to shine on the world stage for me he has to or the footballing world won't recognize him as a legend !The world cup is when the world watches you not a couple people the world ! The world cup I s the greatest sporting event in the world bigger that the olympics! That is where legends are made as I said before great players can be made in the champions league but legend are made in the world cup ! Pele maradona zidane baggio they werent the best because of the champions league it was the world cup these legend were made the champions leauge will never be as great a competioin as the world cup please don't you dare bring this champions league nonsense to me! Please!
Adamaus (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Be up urself more : "don't you dare bring this champions league nonsense to me! Please!"

I didn't even mention the champions league you reatard.

If ronaldo plays awesome with real madrid and has a long lustrious career, into his 30's, and he plays well for portugal there is no reason why he couldn't become a legend. I mean you mentioned baggio (up there ^^) and didn't he miss the penalty to give brazil the world cup? Yes he had won one but "legend" status doesn't come from winning the world cup, if messi won the world cup nxt year with argentina and then got some bad injury and when he came back he played terribly, would he become a legend because he was good for a few seasons and won a world cup? Of course not, that would be one of the most outlandish events to happen in football. The "legend" status comes from the success of your individual carreer, the best chances of having a great career is with your clubs
Eric (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Take it easy, fellas. No need to resort to name calling. Ronnie is a great player, and whether or not he becomes one of the greatest players is yet to be seen. As said above, time will tell
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
If your a legend it shows in whatever you do! Not just champions league but on the world stage as well ! You can't be good for your club but flop on the world stage! Lol if your a legend you play great in any competition!
Thehudfather (Arsenal) 2 years ago
Very difficult question, his prices tag does suggest that but on the other hand he is a top top player and that is coming from an arsenal fan.

This season with madrid will answer the question
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I really dislike saying this. But no he aint. He is amazing at what he does. And frankley if he lost the attitude he would be one of footies greats.

Edit: Great Thread BTW!
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
No his atiitude is fine as long as he produces on the pitch ronaldo takes alot of shots you know what lets do some reseach on the 2 players I know they are stats that will tell us what ronaldo is good and not good at!
Giorgakis (Olympiakos Piraeus) 2 years ago
I disagree if his attitude was good then he would of realized that he was at the top club in the world where he could get anything he wants and is respected there, by not realizing this and being blind to the fact that he had everything going for him at Manchester his attitude is poor
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
I don't hate him for his attitude its fine with me as long as he produdes I'm saying stop saying that he is already a legend and he has done nothing!
Syraph (Real Madrid) 2 years ago
Honestly, the insane amount of money that Madrid paid for him does make him seem a bit overrated. But then again, any player who is worth 90+ million euros is bound to be overrated, right?

Looking at Ronaldo as a player, he is, by a large margin, the best player in the world. Many people would disagree with me and say that Messi is better because if his skills, but look at what Messi and Ronaldo have to offer. For his team, Messi offers great dribbling skills, which then leads to a tendency to score amazing goals. Also, Messi has great speed and provides a formidable attack from the right. On the other hand CR9 offers so much more. Ronaldo's dribbling may not be as dazzling as messi's, but his technique is also amazing. Ronaldo is also faster than Messi, and has a much more powerful shot for long range goals and free-kicks. Besides that, Ronaldo is also much more powerful than Messi in the air, but this is due to Messi's growth problem as a child. CR9 comes from the EPL (a much more physical league than la liga or the serie a) and rarely gets hurt, as compared to messi.

I'm not saying that Ronaldo is the best simply because he is better than Messi, who is number 2. Instead, Ronaldo is better because he is more of a game changer than Messi is (Messi is also a game changer though). Ronaldo has scored as much/more goals than Messi does from a midfield position, while Messi plays as a forward!

Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be a legend, its almost guaranteed. He can only improve from here due to his age, and at 90+ million euros, he may prove to be a bargain for Real Madrid
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I enjoyed reading that
Silvascreen (AC Milan) 2 years ago
Well said Syraph.... If he just stopped dancing, everyone would love him on their team. People don't like CR cause secretly they wish they could play like him, but the harsh reality is they never will. I wonder how many Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, & Arsenal Fans would love to have him?
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
What ! How do you know that he has a better shot what if he doesn't like to shot ! But messi will dribble through any defence though
StrikersMT28 (Seattle Sounders) 2 years ago
True. The reason people hate Ronnie is his ego. Anyone with a brain knows that they'd love to be a World-class footballer in general
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
It not why I don't think he the best they say he is the best to ever play but how can he be he has done nothing he is nowhere
Ltm017 2 years ago
The only thing that makes Ronaldo really stand out is his shots from midfield or from long distance. I think to each his own. Because Messi can dribble through a defence. I don't think hate has anything to do with people thinking he is the best. I don't think he has reached the level as others in the past have....come on. But time will tell...
Adamaus (Manchester United) 2 years ago
So ltm going to what you just said messi only stands out 'cause he can dribble: firstly just because his short doesn't mean he's a baby and dribbles

But seriously you can't say 'ronaldo only stands out because of his long shots, but messi it better because he can dribble? Whats the difference according to you its one attridute is better than the other?
Ltm017 2 years ago
That's why I said to each his own. But really.... No one can say anything else but that he makes those long shots look amazing. Which he does don't get me wrong. All I'm saying is that what people say about what makes one player amazing could be said about anyone. BTW this is off of what syraph was saying (meaning what I said in my earlier post) What makes a great player is a combination of what they can do. So far from what I see Ronaldo is not as amazing as people are making him out to be. Yes he has nice footwork and he is a great stirker but he's not on that level yet or for people to start comparing him to players that have reached that level.

Now I am not saying Messi is on a level to be compared to the greatest. Just that Ronaldo is not all that better than him or even better. But that is just by opinion.

Oh and yeah short people are the best. Messi is short but mature. Ronaldo is tall and immature.... More the baby of the two!
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Messi doesn't lose the ball like ronaldo ill tell you that ! He is just sick! And you know adamus don't hate!Ronaldo is good but when it come son to keeping possession you know its messi ! He was to be pushed of his ball!
EmYouEffSee (Manchester United) 2 years ago
I find one of the main reasons people dislike ronaldo is because of his attitude and ego, they are quick to say "he sucks, he's a diver" just because they think insulting him from a different country will somehow affect his game. Truth is, he's damn good. The best player in the world right now? I would say yes. Messi is a contender but he lacks the spark and ironically enough the confidence to say "I'm the best". However as good as ronaldo is now I don't see him being a legend 10-20 yrs from now
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I Disagree with the last comment. He is a legend in my books.... Or maybe that changed with the move to real. Seriousley. He is one of footies greats.

Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
What! What did he do to be a legend? What lol wow
StrikersMT28 (Seattle Sounders) 2 years ago
To me, he is the equivalent of Ronaldinho. He started young, fast, and full of creativity at a big-name, small league club. He signed for a big club, which was supposed to spark his career into more fame and stardom than before. But there comes a time when their bodies can't produce like they used to. He will lose his speed and power over time, but he's still definitely a threat. Personally, I think down is the only direction he can go now. He's no longer the face of a franchise, and, to me, his best year was two years ago. You just can't repeat that. As time goes on, his goal and assist totals WILL GO DOWN. But, like I said, he is nothing to be overlooked
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
How manchester united would love to see that lol some great points there
Silvascreen (AC Milan) 2 years ago
So you're saying that Man UTD is a small club? LOL That's hilarious.... What everyone fails to realize is, CR Plays TOO FAST! He's arguably one of the fastest if not the fastest guys on the pitch. If he actually took his time to slow down and pace himself to that of his team, he would be that much MORE of a threat. He's a Winger not a Forward like Messi. Will he be great, yes, one of the all times greats.... NO He needs a World Cup for that distinction
Ltm017 2 years ago
Hahahahaha.... I enjoyed reading that! nice!
JohnnyG (Manchester United) 2 years ago
I think he is a great footballer and a very crappy person. His success on the pitch has only made him a worse person too. But hey, we're all human; fame corrupts
ManUK (Manchester United) 2 years ago
He didn't have a father really either, and flew away from home at eleven, so it's halfway not his fault
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
He also has a heart condition. Most people don't know that. He was lucky to survive the operation when he was young. I think its a little bit to with ego.... But as johnny said " We Are all humans "
Giorgakis (Olympiakos Piraeus) 2 years ago
What kind if heart condition
Darius (Aston Villa) 2 years ago
In my mind, people consider him overrated because of his past (and future) success. Yes, he doesn't have the best personality to the public eye, but he still produces goals and puts fans in the stands. As we all know as footy fans, it takes hard work to become I might say a quality skilled player on the pitch. With that being said I think we all seem to forget and underestimate the time, effort, and dedication it takes to play football. Not only that but consistently make the first squad and play for one of the most decorated football clubs in history, speaking of both Man Utd and now presently Real Madrid. Last, I'm not saying this as a ginormous Cristiano Ronaldo fan or anything. I'm just saying that with more fame comes more haters and procrastinators. So don't forget all the time he put in to be where he's at right now
Dali (Manchester United) 2 years ago
No. He is not overrated. There you go
SergioRamos (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Done. Now I can go offline
EmYouEffSee (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Ha ha and I thought the days where one can simply answer a question "yes or no" were over...
Dali (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Santillanavila 2 years ago
Wow, this is a sensitive topic. I think Ronaldo is the best on the world right now. He has the chance to become a legend but how? We will know when something happens and the majority of the ppl agree to him being a legend. This is when he becomes a legend. Also I think Legends defy the "the only place to go is down", that is one way I will know if he becomes a legend. Oh and I agree with what adamaus has been saying in this topic. Those are my two cents
Kimaway17 (Liverpool) 2 years ago
I think he is the most irreplacible player. He can do so many things (shoot header tricks run) but he's kinda overrated. Look he is not the best in the world. There is Messi Iniesta Xavi Ibra Etc those are players better than Ronaldo
EmYouEffSee (Manchester United) 2 years ago
Iniesta is probably one of the most under-rated players in the game right now, but I still wouldnt say better than ronaldo and certainly not best in the world
Elucari (Liverpool) 2 years ago
Ronaldo maybe the most dominating player in the game today, however, one day his arrogance and c**k-sure attitude will catch up with him. I believe he lacks leadership ability and when his skills diminish due to age, as has happened with great names such as Beckham and Ronaldinho, clubs will not be as willing to buy him
Giorgakis (Olympiakos Piraeus) 2 years ago
Well put he is too over confident
Ant (Liverpool) 2 years ago
That's true, in ten or fifteen years he will have lost the pace and be left with nothing but the bad attitude and ego. I can't see him becoming a spokesman for football like Pele or whoever
Kingsickhead (Chelsea) 2 years ago
Who cares I could care less what he does as long as he produces but he not the greatest of all time
