Transfer Roundup 17/6: Koscielny To Barce Or Bayern, Bale To PSG

It would appear the rumour mill took a bit of time off over the weekend as not a lot of new rumours surfaced we did however have a few and a couple of confirmed signings.

We start with the bizarre news that Joe Kinnear has been appointed as director of football at Newcastle. Now on the continent Directors of Football are quite common and it is not unusual to have a first team coach have little to do with the buying and selling of players. In England however the title of 'Director of Football' should be changed to 'Forcing the Manager Out'.

It is not Kinnear's first time at Newcastle having had a brief spell with them in 2009 when a heart attack forced him to step down. Newcastle fans are less than happy at this appointment to say the least but chairman Mike Ashley is quite used to annoying his teams fanbase.BBC

An actual player signing that popped up with no prior fanfare is the move of highly-rated Croatian defender Dejan Lovren from Lyon to Southampton BBC. Defender transfers do not make as good headlines or have the fan frenzy factor as attacking players but this is a good signing for the Saints as they look towards the 'tricky second season' in Premier League.

Luis Suarez on duty in the Confederations Cup with Uruguay stepped up his come and get me transfer plea by stating that he is “Disturbed” by Liverpools lack of Champions League action. The actual quote is apparently: “A player always aspires to be at the top of their profession and Madrid is at the top for any player.
“But do you know what it is like to play for Liverpool? It disturbs me that Liverpool are not in the Champions League every season.” (The Sun)
Now this could be taken one of two ways; Either that he feels Liverpool are good enough to be in the Champions League every season or the fact they are not in the Champions League is personally disappointing for him.
Given his previous pleas for Madrid to come and get him it's probably the later of the two.

There are reports in several publications this morning including The Mirror that Arsenal face a battle to keep hold of Laurent Koscielny as both Bayern and Barcelona track the French defender. Isn't it amazing what a season without that many terrible performances can do.
If this goes through expect whoever he signs for to win a couple of trophies next year as this is the case for all departing Arsenal players.

We have previously reported about the apparent interest PSG have shown in Andre Villas-Boas now The Mirror have a new angle on it. Apparently they are going to sign £85mil Gareth Bale just to try and get the manager. Is it just me or does that not seem a weird way around signing one of the worlds best players?

If you know of any other rumours let us know below.
