Today we herald the release of Floodlight, the next major upgrade to the footytube platform.
This release sees a complete overhaul of the profile system, with a ton of new ways to personalise your footytube experience, including your very own activity feed (with friend/supporter activity coming soon). Furthermore , you can now post your favourite photos, video and news links, and share them with your footytube mates. We've also added a rather nifty 'videobox' widget that launches a youtube player when you click a users favourite bands or movies, and you will now find a handy Quicklinks menu in your profile dropdown, a nice touch we think, that makes it easy for you to get to your favourite footy sites without any fuss.
We still have a few known bugs to iron out over the next few days, and some planned features yet to be implemented, but most of it is working nicely.
Don't forget to check out the footer graphic occasionally, we plan on building it into a giant stadium by the time we come out of beta, adding to it gradually as each new release comes out - so expect some floodlights to appear there when, er, floodlight, becomes stable ;)
We're also inviting another 10,000 users in today so you will soon have some more people to play with.
On a final note, much love to all you beta testers for all your efforts and the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have had so far. I can't tell you how nice it is for us all to actually see people using this beast after 2 years of it being under wraps our top secret footy lair (ok so it's more like a pizza box / lad mag strewn pig sty than a lair, but you get the idea).
Its sweet. I love what you've done. I would like to see more compilation videos around like viva football and such. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. Keep up the good work gents
Not for awhile slickman, whole point of the beta is to get user feedback and improve on what we've built up since the initial release, listen to feedback, build on the things that work and kill those that don't.
There's lots of stuff behind the scenes we need to optimise and a whole host of new features in the pipeline that need to get done (there's only 3 of us programming this - for no cash - so it all takes a lot more time than we'd like). Then all the new stuff needs testing from people like you, before we can even think about going live. Realistically, if things go well, we hope for an August roll out, though we're in no hurry to fulfill any requirements with regard to a deadline. And do remember we promised you the beta a year ago and came in hmm about 9 months late :)
But in the meantime, enjoy the beta login you have - it will never expire (so you're stuck with having to use the new site whether you like it or not :)
Good work, absolutely fantastic. Incomparable effort and supply of news, videos, friends, photos and more to come for sure. It's like youtube, facebook and goal altogether. Keep the awesome work going pals, good job
Greatest Site IN THE world! Probably won't leave my computer for days now. Only question is why is it that sometimes the old footytube has videos faster than the new one does? Plus the weird sopa. Pt site that we use now is pretty annoying b/c it only shows one goal at a time. I know that sometimes (actually 75%) you get one big video with all the goals, but it's still a small hassle when their isn't. That's all my complaints
