Footybet Preview: Man City V Everton & Southampton V Man United

Manchester City v Everton
Sergio Aguero's goals have almost single-handedly kept Manchester City's title defence on course this season.
An inconsistent start to the Premier League campaign has seen Manuel Pellegrini's side struggle to match the early pace set by Chelsea.

Dropping points to the likes of West Ham and QPR in recent fixtures ramped up the pressure at the Etihad Stadium, and speculation mounted about the future of Pellegrini.

At least the form of Aguero has allowed the Chilean to take a little solace while all around him have been waiting for the owners to press the panic button.

The mood at City has not been helped by all-too-familiar struggles in the Champions League, but when the chips were down, Aguero fired in a hat-trick to snatch a dramatic 3-2 win over Bayern Munich.

The Argentinian has been just as prolific in the Premier League, claiming all four goals in a 4-1 demolition of Tottenham and a brace against QPR.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is still searching for the consistency his side need to show if they are to qualify for the Europa League for the second season in succession.

What Martinez will require against Aguero is a solid performance from his defensive unit and England defender Phil Jagielka epitomizes the sort of character the Spaniard will be seeking.

Jagielka has been a reliable presence for the Merseyside club, with his displays in the Premier League lifting him near the top of the form table.

Southampton v Manchester United
Dusan Tadic is one of the reasons Southampton have proved the doubters wrong in what was predicted to be a disastrous campaign for the South Coast club.

Robbed of the likes of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, who joined Liverpool in the summer, the Saints were expected to struggle from the outset in the Premier League this season.

When Ronald Koeman replaced Tottenham-bound Mauricio Pochettino as manager, the fans were hardly shouting for joy, but the Dutchman has proved his detractors wrong.

Tadic has been a productive supply route for the Saints, linking up with players like Graziano Pelle, who has found the target regularly.

Tadic has been in such good form that he is ranked highly in the Premier League for assists, not quite matching the likes of Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas, who is already in double figures for setting up goals, but still amongst the front runners.

Another Dutch manager making his mark in the Premier League is Manchester United's Louis van Gaal, who has at last shown signs that he is getting to grips with life at Old Trafford.

After a less than auspicious start to the season Van Gaal has seen his expensively-assembled side start to display the sort of consistency demanded by the club's followers.

Without the distractions of European football, United appear to have put their teething troubles behind them to produce the sort of performances required by a no-nonsense manager like Van Gaal.

Following David Moyes' ill-fated tenure at Old Trafford, the recent calm provided by his successor has returned United to the upper echelons of the Premier League.
