Italy Is Gonna Crash Out. Again.

Two years ago before the world cup I started a thread :

Both countries crashed unceremoniously at the group stage in that tournament.

This year. We have seen the revival of France in some spectacular form. They are unbeaten in 20. The turn-around in form has been largely down to Blanc doing a good job in getting his team to start functioning as a team. With the talented French players at his disposal, and the team seemingly in stability with no major shakeup after the world cup chopping, France has largely performed up to the level of expectation. They aren't the same level yet compared to Germany or Spain, but they are fast gaining steam. Riding on this form, its hard to bet against them doing well in this Euro.

With Italy, are we still looking at the same issues? Recent friendlies aren't exactly the best preparation done. With losses coming against Russia , Rep of Ireland and USA. Even though their place in the main tournament are secured with no loss, they haven't really been tested in that qualifying group with Serbia performing below par(and forfeited a match to Italy), and the rest of the group opponents not really first grade. The friendlies that they have are suppose to tweak some weakness, and secure some confidence with some good wins on the belt before the tourney. They haven't really achieve that have they?

Plus, the Calcio is forever plagued by scandals, would this latest incident spur the players to perform like 2006 when they won the world cup? I seriously doubt so. First, Iady fortune are smiling at them in 2006 when they are paired with Australia and Ukraine(no disrespect to them, but these countries don't exactly spell powerhouse football county imo) until they match up with an out-of-steam Germany. In this Euro, chances are they won't hae a good start competing against Spain (And good start to a tourney is essential for every countries competing in a group qualifying) .Secondly, Italy are not good Euros competitor. The sole victory came in the 1968. A long time ago. Barring Euro2000, their record at Euros suck when you compare to their world cup adventures.

Is Italy still in dire state? Have they really got out of the slump of 2010?

Have your say
