If anything England need to go younger and need to instill youth at all positions for their line-up, similar to what Germany did for 2010

Germany was able to do so because they had introduced younger heads long before the world cup. Scweinsteiger, podolski, mertesacker, and lahm were 26/27 at the world cup but had been in the german set up for 6 years before that. This was effective because they were introduced to the set up along side players like klose (podolski), ballack & frings (schweinsteiger), metzelder (lahm and mertesacker)

Or face getting demolished in all competitions in the fore seeable futre.
Their young players are not of the same calibre as lets say germany or spain but they are definately talented. Sturridge, Chamberlaine, Welbeck, Mceachran, Rodwell, Smalling, Jones, Richards, Walker, Wilshere, Cleverley. These are the names of the players who will be the future for england for years to come, now is the time to blood them into the england set up.
Euro 2012 does not seem like it will be a successfull tournament for england so there will not be as much pressure on the squad as there was for the world cup. With hodgson also in charge now it gives him a chance to get to know the young players a bit more and to get them on his wavelength early in their careers while getting valuable experience in a tournament.
If they get embarrassed then that is even better because character is shown in how you get back up after being pushed down.
Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands. These teams have been so good consistently because of how they introduce their young players into the set up next to some old heads. If england do this with their young players and have players like rooney, terry, ferdinand, parker etc. Around to help them out then you can see an improved england come world cup 2014. If England do not do this then I'm afraid their fans will be disappointed for a lot longer than they would like
