Nah, Messi achieved nothing last year compared to Sneijder. While I am not saying that winning is a necessity to claim the ballon d'or, Sneijder did prove that he could be the main man in a team at all levels - league, europe and world cup. Just for that, he should have taken the prize

I think winning should be necessary cause it shows that they stepped up when it mattered

Otherwise cr7/cr9 what ever you would call him then sould be ahead of either xavi or his counter part in the short list considering his skillfulness and he did have goal almost equivalent to game and no don't tell me he was injure cause iniesta was also injure

Its true Sneijder really deserved a nod but it shouldnt be judged on winning because that is a team victory not a player victory. If a player plays amazingly but doesn't get results I don't think it should restrict him from winning it. Players like Dzeko and Ibrahimovic and Vidic shouldnt be held back from winning because they won't get to a world cup final with their countries. No offense to Bosnia, Sweden and Serbia haha
