Pontypool

Canadian indie film about "zombies", but not like any other i've seen. Will twist your mind. Very well made. Not your typical zombie film......Very detailed and vivd audio is what this movie thrives on, which is so much creepier than the usual splurge of guts and blood that typical zombie films employ.

See it!

Typical movie/tv for me:
Drive, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Peep Show, QI
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Good start sir [Wenger]
Those are all solid choices
As for myself
For TV:
I too enjoy Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead
In addition (off the top of my head)
Sons of Anarchy, Rescue Me, Archer, Damages, Real Time With Bill Maher, True Blood, American Horror Story, Skins (Orignal), The Office (Original and American), Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Black Donnellys, and many many more that I can't think of atm.

I'll tackle movies I like when I have 3 years to spare

AFC11 (Arsenal) 1 year ago
I like all these.... I just couldn't think of them all
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
A lot of good titles up there, makin me miss my DP of the dude
Idk if res dogs and pulp count as british gangsta but sexy beast was great and which did you guys like more between Lock Stock and Snatch? Snatch for me
Darko awesome, Trainspotting awesome, The Big Lebowski is typical Coen brothers gold
Come to think of it, I've seen all of these movies except Bridesmaids
Gunner95 (Arsenal) 1 year ago
I love all of these movies!
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Okay, time for the ultimate - intimidating, evil, bullying, ragaholic type characters
Usually characterized as fathers and/or villains
They only need one character role to enter candidacy
So far, 4 immediate names come to mind
(pictures would be appreciated, as are examples of roles they played that fit the description)
(idk how to post pics, so image search if you want)

Pete Postlethwaite (Distant Voices, Still Live)
Ben Kingsley (sexy beast)
Peter Mullen (everything)
Joe Pesci (everything)

There are so many to think of

Vote or nominate another
Poppyfields (Arsenal) 1 year ago
The "villain" that I've hated most and legit think was most evil in ANY movie was Nurse Ratched from One Flew over The Cuckoo's nest.

But if you're looking for the "tough guy intimidator" I'd have to say it's a tie between Joe Pesci (casino or goodfellas take your pick) and Ben Kingsley (yes you will yes you f*****g will yes yes yes yes yes lol)
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Both incredible roles....
I gotta' give credit to kingsley as well, because the Joe Pesci's and Peter Mullen's of the world seem to be born and bred for those roles, but Kingsley is so damn versatile, he shocked me with Sexy Beast
Oddshot (Newcastle United) 1 year ago
Vinny Jones - Lock stock and two smoking barrels.    That scene with the car door....
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
^ good addition

Moriartti from the BBC's Sherlock.... Doesn't look intimidating, but he's such a loose cannon/sociopath.... Just a really smart crazy person
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Hey 11, has Sherlock in the bbc version ever openly slighted Arsenal? I know the character was born in london, I have been assuming he supports spurs or chelsea because in the rubbish US version he took a swing at the arsenal.
A surprising coincidence about your post^ is Vinnie Jones, mentioned two posts above yours as an aforementioned candidate, just so happens to play Moriartti in the you. S. Version. weird aye?
AFC11 (Arsenal) 1 year ago
@Goon, not that I can recall. I didn't even know there was an American one. Highly recommend the BBC Version though.... Well made.

But If I were to guess, Sherlock would be a fan of "Sherlock FC"

Kill List

Been blowing my mind, bending the s**t out of its genre.

GoonSquad, what would you consider your fav films? Can throw you some out based on that
AFC11 (Arsenal) 1 year ago
See trailers like these make me wanna go see films in the cinema. Not your usual s**t show of gore/poop.... The sounds and background music convinced me. I got a "feel" for the movie not a bunch of lame cliffhangers that get your ass in the seat.... I will watch this this weekend. Thanks
Poppyfields (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Bro deadley pilgrim def watching this, love ben wheatley's first film.    This looks seriously good.
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
After watching this, message me and lemme know what you think. I'm eager to hear the reactions on this one = } Alright, so if you can tolerate subtitles, I would suggest this film for all the Revenge Story aficionados out there. A South Korean suspense thriller entitled "Oldboy"
Enjoy
Deadeyepilgrim (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Oldboy is pretty legit, I still think the one he did before, Sympathy for Mr. Vengance was his best film. He is making a new one in english with Nicole Kidman called Stoker.

GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
I forgot to mention  Robot & Frank  Check that one out
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Damn, its gonna' be a great movie, but I feel like I already know too much after watching the trailer  But that won't stop me
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Just watched the film you recommended....  Wt-mother-f.... I need to talk to somebody that's seen this
Deadeyepilgrim (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Yo Goon,

Spill your beans.

What makes this film a truly f****d up engagement is the moral and allegorical heft.
Halfway through the film I had no idea where the new elements introduced in the film would go.

And the ending has to be one of the best in recent years, let alone one of the best in the genre
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
I couldn't agree with you more
The ending, as it should, left me only with questions and an overwhelming sense of awe. I was totally bereft is disappointment and discontent, despite the fact that so much was left unspoken. Why was the wife smiling? Was the child unconscious underneath the blanket? Her mouth wasnt gagged or duct taped, why wasn't she speaking? Was she in on it? My guess is not at all. His friend said 'Thank you' right before he ended his friends life, the same thing the members on the list said, yet he probably wasnt a part of it either, so why then?
Speaking of allegory and heft, what do you consider the symbollism, abstract spiritualism, or semantics could possibly represent/mean? Sh*t man, you should just request me so we can meebo this ish lol
Deadeyepilgrim (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Well I ll say this without giving much away, the title cards (hints of Passolini's Salo) literally take aim at parts of british society and the ending goes all the way through to the beginning where it all starts

If you're looking to expand your horizons then give 'Spirited Away' a shot. I was skeptical before watching it when my friends recommended it to me as it looked bizzare but my word that is a good movie.

Favourite movies:

1. The Big Lebowski (Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi, enough said)

2. The Shining (Best horror movie I have seen, Jack Nicholson is phenomenal)

3. How to train your Dragon (don't care what anybody thinks this movie is brilliant, very underrated)

4. No Country For Old Men (Javier Bardem at his absolute best, unsettling and ruthless. If you haven't seen it definitely worth checking out purely for his role in this movie)

5. Se7en (I won't give anything away if you haven't seen it but a certain moment in this movie absolutely blew my mind, can't stress enough just how good this is)

Honourable mentions:
. Memento
. Fight Club
. Silence of the Lambs
. American Beauty
. The Truman Show

I could go on but I would be here all night...

On an IMDb list of 2012 movies,
Of the first 50 I scrolled through, I've seen 47.... Foreign, independent, straight to DVD, all of em I've seen but 3.... Two of which I'd consider movies made for children.
When I learned this, for some reason it disturbed me lol I didn't even scroll further

Hmm, this is gonna' end in therapy or a damn self help book.... But
Oh movies, how I love thee

Now these two posts ^ ^ are exactly wtf I'm talking about  Yessir  Respect
PeterzeGooner (Arsenal) 1 year ago
If you are into fighting movies like warrior I suggest you check out Scott Adkins movie's undisputed 2 and 3... It's unfortunate this guy is not very popular... But I think hands down the character he portrays of Yuri Boyka is the best fighter of all time...In fact it influenced me to start mixed martial arts training. The story line is not very good but the action scene's are intense...Here is a sample

Godspeedysick (Modbot) 1 year ago
Story line isn't very good and hence lies the problem for me. Gone are the days where I watch movies with very little story lines no matter how good fight scenes are
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Sorry peter but I have to agree with speedy on this one
I watched the clip you posted and I've seen the first undisputed and heard talk of this new guys talents
From what I understand after watching the clip is that a lot of the 'impressiveness' that comes from these fight sequences comes down to two things: intricacy and editing. His kick combinations are unique, which is where I'm assuming most of thrills in the movie come from, and the editing is very detailed to give the impression of power and killer impact, when in many cases, neither are actually present. The most impressive things that I saw were what he was able to do to that bag, and his acrobatics. But as far as actual fight sequences go, I'd sooner recommend a Jet Li movie, tony jaa movie, or something of that nature. These seem too obviously choreographed and/or staged. But that is awesome that this film was able to inspire you like that. It is no easy feat to truly inspire a viewer in any way, for that alone, I respect you sir
AFC11 (Arsenal) 1 year ago
I don't watch fight movies, but if you do, watch The Raid......Never seen fight/kill/shoot/martial arts scene like these
If you're going for impressive s**t, these Indonesians do it right!

This isn't exactly a movie. Recently been watching a show called "House of Cards". It main star is Kevin Spacey, who is amazing in this like all his other projects.

Acting is superb, story excellent, direction is perfect, etc. Must watch. Its based around the politics in the US, and shows how politics is done behind the scenes in the White House, Congress, Lobbyists, NGOs, charities, Media, etc.

Watch it, you won't regret it
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
Khalid, I have recently finished the first season of House of Cards, but don't worry, I won't ruin anything lol. I'm glad you mentioned it as I too enjoy the show. I believe it to be very well done and enthralling. If you are a Kevin Spacey fan, as you seem to be, might I recommend The Big Kahuna if you haven't already seen it
[account-removed] 1 year ago
Finished watching House of Cards. All of it in 2 days. Great show, can't wait for the second season. As for The Big Kahuna, I havent seen it, but I am a huge fan so Spacey so that is the next thing I am going to watch
GoonSquad (Arsenal) 1 year ago
