You guys seen the cost of the new England shirt? 90 fecking quid because of the 'new cooling technology' haha!
+1
Wont be paying £90, just on principle. Shocking price.

It's not like all the fat, bar dwellers need cooling technology to drink pints :)
England's best 11?

Hart
Flanagan, Cahill, Jones, Baines
Lalana, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling
Rooney, Sturridge

hodgson has to use Liverpool as his template for England.

Key players from Liverpool as outlined in my team. Rooney and Lalana could interchange. Barkley is an option there too.

he may choose johnson over flanagan.
Flanagan is pretty raw for international level, although he is having a beastly season for you guys right now.

I do like your selection of younger players though.

Hart
Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines
Walcott, Gerrard, Lallana, Sterling
Rooney
Sturridge

Forster/Foster/Gibbs/Flanagan/Jones/Wilshere/Barkley/Chambers/Oxlade-Chamberlain

is something I would like to see us try. The majority of this team will still be around and maturing in time for 2016 and 2018. If we give them tournament experience now they will hopefully not be overawed by the occasion and will do us proud in the near future.
pool don't play 4-4-2 like that. and i think we could use three central midfielders like everyone else in the world.
Petition that Rooney doesn't start in Brazil anyone? I want to sign it.
He's flopped and stifled England at every single major tournament.

I don't know anymore. I think he needs to be made to stick to his position more. I've noticed it a lot over the last couple of seasons with Utd, he drops too deep just so he can get on the ball but he doesn't influence the game from that area.

People keep saying "oh he's Englands best player" and extolling the virtue of "wanting to be on the ball" but a striker is no good if he sees more of the ball on the half way line than in the opposition box.

I think we were much more dangerous when he was subbed off. If we had to pick one player who seems to have had a guaranteed spot over the last few years it has definitely been Rooney. Perhaps he shouldn't be such a sure thing any more....

It might be interesting to start him on the bench for a change and see how things go. We surely can't be any less inspiring than we have been with him in the starting XI....

I think Sturridge is a definite starter for sure as the central striker, Rooney should change his mindset to that of a forward so he can come in from the wings, for that to happen he needs to stop being hungry for the ball often.
rooney's done i think, he peaked four years ago.
here's the thing about rooney - he's a striker. yes he can pass, he has other qualities, but he's a striker. moving him to #10 was a mistake - trying to get him more involved in the game only makes him less effective as a striker.
england do not and have never produced a proper european #10 so rooney, who is just a striker with his head up, got shoved in there. mistake.
I'm absolutely with you Kayteo - Rooney is first and foremost a striker. The more he drops deep, the less he contributes in the box.

How was Sterling's performance? Did he play the full 90?
he got MOM. Very good he got subbed at the very end.
The problem is Wayne Rooney. As soon as he went off England started to play it looked like a weight was lifted off the ENgland team.

Surprise omissions?

I'm going Carrick, Lampard, Cole, and Townsend.

I wish Rooney was included in that.

I noticed Hodgson talking about getting some psychological help for a potential penalty shootout(s) at the world cup. As we have been knocked out of competitions on penalties SIX times since 1990 we need to try something!

I have a 'never going to happen' idea. How about after each friendly we play, we invite the opposition to a penalty shootout afterwards - regardless of the result. Granted this would be difficult at away games but surely it could be done at wembley.

If the opposition don't want to participate we can use the rest of the squad split into two teams. It would give the players more exposure taking penalties in a stadium full of fans and may help with confidence. Practicing penalties in training is OK but in front of thousands of fans and walking from the halfway line would be a completely different matter. The players would obviously be under less pressure but it could help with nerves in the future. Even if at wembley we have 70,000 fans cheering the penalty taker it would still be a tense situation and far more useful penalty practice.

We could even all boo them to help create an atmosphere lol.

Never going to happen I know lol. Just thought I would share my silly idea. I think we probably just need to win one and start to believe. Every time a game goes to penalties the entire country sighs and assumes defeat. Surely the players must think the same way.

Anyone else have any suggestions for woy? lol
I think half the problem is the immense pressure on the players from the fans and the media. Its like we know we're going out as soon as it goes to penalties...

I'm not sure a psychiatrist will be able to cure this. Surely the success of a penalty shoot-out is a combination of technical ability and self-confidence?

I'd place extra emphasis on penalties in additional training sessions to make sure they can bury the ball in all four corners.

No idea how to tackle confidence, I guess you can try and impose a media blackout to avoid the negativity of the press at least. I like the idea of speaking to winners from other sports to give them motivational talks.

None of our players have much success and have no idea what mentality is needed to be a winner. Get them talking to Wiggins, Wilkinson, O'Sullivan etc. These guys have won major honours in their respective fields under extreme pressure. Surely they would be better at preparing/motivating the players than old Owl-face?
the problem with england is they don't practice relevant things. for instance, they don't drill penalties regularly. they just expect the players to be able to take penalties.
they don't practice how to break down oppositon, they just talk about 'attacking football' and cross the ball all the time.
the spanish practice movement, creating space, quick passing, etc. england don't drill that at all.
easiest possible group surely?
blood the youngsters!

With Walcott injured surely Raheem Sterling has a shout to be in the squad for Brazil?
+2
He would make my squad, especially over young, milner and lennon. I think adam johnson is in with a long shot. He has been fantastic since the turn of the year. Townsend should get the first team spot just on previous england performances.
Need a better right back than Walker
Flanagan. At the moment he's better than Glen Johnson.
+3
Flanagan for the number 2 shirt all the way !
i'd like to see richards get game time. He was a beast when fit a couple of years ago and his defensive strength is amazing.

flanagan is too young and too inexperienced to play right back at a world cup. he would get torn apart
+2
walker, flanagan then johnson for me. Johnson is never going to be good enough but the other two have a chance to settle into the position for many years to come.

As posted by pukaki, richards looked like a first choice right back a few years ago. He was immense back then. The injuries and lack of game time has really stunted his development. If he can get first team football (unlikely) then I would like to see him get a chance in the upcoming friendlies.
Richards is always injured, otherwise I'd also like to see him in the squad
Sturridge
Rooney - wilshere - lallana
huddlestone - henderson
Baines - cahill - jones - walker
hart

suck on that for a WC side.
Barkley over Henderson.
+1
i would rather Barkley at CAM and wilshere alongside huddlestone instead of henderson

but knowing hodgeson, we're gonna have rooney and welbeck upfront with ashley young on the wing and gerrard in the centre..
