February 24 (Primera Liga) - Javier Arizmendi scored the only goal as Deportivo La Coruna jumped three places to ninth in the Primera Liga with a narrow victory at Real Sociedad. The Spain international latched on to Gonzalez Sergio`s cross shortly before the half-hour to maintain Depor`s 2007 run that has seen them go unbeaten with six wins and five draws from their 11 league and cup games since the turn of the year.

February 24 (Primera Liga) - Gonzalo Higuain netted his first goal for the club as 10-man Real Madrid escaped from Saturday's local derby against Atletico with a point. Atletico had taken a deserved early lead when captain Fernando Torres scored his first-ever competitive goal against Real. However, it was not enough to guide hosts Atletico to victory, as winter signing Higuain slotted home his maiden Real goal just after the hour to earn his side a draw.

Yeah, where exactly did those Spanish primera teams get their name from?
Thanks to Culture of Soccer who posted recently about the meaning behind those nicknames i can safely say that Real Madrid got the nick los merengues as an apparent gastronomist saw the resemblance between the uniforms and the lovely French dessert and the nickname has stuck.
More nickname fun here.
Next on the list of Fabio Capello as he is in the mood of forgiving people is Italian foward Antonio Cassano.
“He´s lost weight and he´s training very well. He will be in the squad next week,” said Capello at a press conference Monday.
Cassano apparently insulted Capello in the dressing room after Real´s match at Gimnastic Tarragona and has trained seperately from the rest of the Real first team squad ever since.
Real are going downhill fast, Capello has not solved their problems and continuing their tradition of buying ’superstars’ is also hurting them in so many ways.
What do you think is the solution for this problem?
