Guess who’s Back?
David Beckham makes a sensational comeback to the England fold as Steve Mcclaren has included him in the squad to face Brazil in a friendly and Estonia in a must win Euro 2008 qualifier.
The former England skipper was dumped by new coach Steve McClaren following this summer’s World Cup but after producing a series of superb performances for Real Madrid over the past few weeks, Beckham has now earned an emotional comeback.
It represents an amazing about-turn in fortune for the 32-year-old, who believed he would remain stuck on 94 caps.
Becks himself is a happy man and says he is ‘absolutely delighted’ to be recalled by England manager Steve McClaren.
Now let’s just hope he doesn’t get injured in Real Madrid’s game against Deportivo La Caruna
Congrats to Becks, i always felt England played better with him on the right and Crouch up front.
Int. Friendlies - A brace from Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing guided England B to a 3-1 win over Albania at Turf Moor as Michael Owen made his international return following injury.
It had to come some day and while it took him a little longer to cross from 999 to 1,000 goals, Brazil’s 1994 World Cup winning hero Romario finally scored that ever elusive goal by converting a penalty in Vasco da Gama’s 3-1 over Sport Recife on Sunday.
The 41-year-old sent Sport goalkeeper Magrao the wrong way to spark extraordinary scenes at Vasco’s Sao Januario stadium, where celebrations held up the Brazilian championship match for 16 minutes.
Dozens of people, including friends, relatives and a horde of radio and television reporters ran onto the pitch to hug, congratulate and interview the 1994 World Cup winner after his 48th minute goal.
