Just when you thought a career was done and dusted it springs up again as with the news today that former Celtic and Barcelona player Henrik Larsson will play for Man Utd (loan) from January onwards. The length of the contract is said to be 2-5 months.
He will come to England to watch United’s match against West Ham at Upton Park on December 17 and will then train for a week, go back to Sweden for Christmas and be eligible to play for the Red Devils after January 1.
‘He is a great player. It is a terrific bit of business for us. We are bringing someone in who can change a game. When you think back to the Champions League final he was the one who won it for Barcelona when he came on.
‘He can play wide right, wide left or up front. I am really happy we have got him. I would have liked to have signed him long ago but I knew he wanted to go to Barcelona and then he went home.’
I never in my wildest dream imagined that Larsson would be the solution sought by Sir Alex, but after reading the news today and considering it a little i think it’s quite a good deal, Larsson is full of experience at 35-years-old, he has played right there at the top with Barcelona and can more or less handle the climate of the Premier League since he did have a stint with Celtic and to top it all he has a deft touch than can change any game and that’s the kind of player Utd need at the moment.
It is now clear than Sir Alex is not thinking on the long term as yet as Larsson will only be a stop gap player but with the possibility of bringing back Rossi from Newcastle and Alan Smith gaining full fitness and just maybe a potential bid for Owen Hargreaves Man Utd will look strong enough to maintain their challenge for the Premiership crown.
It was a busy night in the Premiership and after all the action Man Utd continues to lead the table.
Ronaldo,Evra and O’ Shea also ensure that Utd had a healthy lead in the goals department.
Arsenal suffered a shock defeat to Fulham while Chelsea notch a 1-0 win over Bolton thanks to under-fire Michael Ballack.

I found a great little site today that lets you do ‘pretend’ betting on the footy. The premise is simple, pick some games, predict the results, and see what you would have won (or lost) had you really gone to the bookie…
