Messis retirement from international football is an insight into his character and mentality
+1
Messi has announced his retirement from international football. I don't think either him or the country could manage another tournament without him delivering the goods. Shame but reality.
Tbh I am open to see what this leads to. Obviously as an Argentina fan, I love messi and I do think he gets an unfair share of the criticism. But people who say he took Argentina to three finals, I don't think they watch Argentina play. Ironically his best competition for Argentina for me was 2010 World Cup. I have seen many people claim that he was horrible in that competition. They are either idiots or didn't watch Argentina play at all. He was amazing in that tournament. Other than scoring a goal, he did almost everything that could've possibly been done. He was the only player in that tournament who didn't make it to the semi final but was shortlisted for golden ball. He was s**t in 2011 Copa America but the whole Argentina team were. And in the last World Cup, he was nowhere close to his best. He was even worse in 2015 Copa America. In this years Copa America, he scored a lot of goals but I still didn't see the player who dribbles through players for fun at club level. He still had a solid tournament, don't get me wrong but you also have to look at the oppositions they played. The only tough match they had before the final was the first group match against Chile where they won 2-1 without messi.

So yea, I am curious to see how Argentina consistently performs without messi. I believe as the pressure grew on him, he became less and less influential for Argentina. And as many people expect, he is probably just gonna take a break anyways. And it might be a wise decision because if Argentina does poorly without him, people will realize his importance which frankly I, like many others, can't see at least in terms of actual performance on the pitch. But if it does happen, he can then come back knowing that people would be more cautious about putting the blame on him.
okay that's it, i am not watching any more finals that argentina are involved in. f*****g bottlers, all of them.
if argentina loses this one, i am gonna start a petition to ban higuain from argentina's national team
Best team for the Copa

Hoping for a win for Messi and the Boys

I really think it's already late to replace G. Martino. AFA should act long before it's tooooo late!!
Every passing football game that Argentina NT plays,TATA's limitations as a coach is more and more pronounced. Why cant' AFA have a World Class Coach? At least a decent coach like Sabella is minimum.

Don't know what makes AFA believe in coaches like Maradona, Batista, TATA... :(
I am a big fan of Argentina since childhood. I heard a lot about Maradona then I saw little bit of Ortega, quite a bit of Riquelme and a lot of Messi.

Learning what Messi has gone through in his life and how he could have played for Spain but declined the offer to play for Argentina and then knowing how much he is criticized and blamed for the failure of his teammates so much so that he's even asked to retire from National Team despite him playing better than everybody else in the team hurts. Seems like that very pathetic attitude may have came back as Karma to bite Argentina from winning the WC or CA. OR the pathetic decision to have low quality coaches like Martino/Batista and even the worst coach of all time, Maradona may have. Perhaps both of the above combined to prevent Argentina from winning the elite trophy and in that in turn prevented Messi from earning the glory he deserves so much.

Now Messi is injured and the people's player played the game instead. What happen? They lose to Ecuador (that too at home) for the first time in the history of Football. Hope the Argentines don't blame this on Messi, this time and instead realize what Diamond they have (Messi) that they are treating as a low quality rock (all criticisms) and correct their attitude towards the Great Football Player on Earth!
Good read

Can't AFA get a decent coach? I thought TATA was good and Barca board needlessly cut-short his tenure but it seems he's a clueless person.

I have seen him come up with garbage if you look for any tactics.

He speaks non-sense such as:

"The best of Messi is now gone". "Argentina can play without Messi". "If I were Messi, I'd quit playing for Argentina". "I didn't teach anything at all to Messi while I was at Camp Nou".

I really really wish, AFA gets a great coach for FIFA WC 2018 (last realistic chance for this generation of Argentine players to win something).
It's funny how Messi is always cited as being underwhelming for Argentina when he's at least decent most games. Players like Agüero and Higuaín are TRULY underwhelming and really are part of the issue. The fact Argentina hasn't had a decent coach in more than a full decade, the period where Messi was supposed to shine, is a huge cause of their sub-par performances too.

So many talented players and nothing but failed finalists to show for it; this is very reminiscent of Brazil in the early '80s.
