tell me who new this was going to happen again?
Jake | February 12th, 2009 @ 5:20 am
Everyone knew it was going to happen. Mexico has been on a downward spiral while the US team keeps getting stronger with time.
bb | February 12th, 2009 @ 5:26 am
USA! USA!
daniel | February 12th, 2009 @ 5:48 am
usa is gonna make a good run next year in south africa.
usa wins the world cup by 2018.
Howie | February 12th, 2009 @ 8:26 am
USA ? wins the world cup ? hahahaha
I don't really see any young talented US players right now, how do you think they'll win the world cup in 2018 ?
eld10s | February 12th, 2009 @ 10:00 am
did anyone see the game? mexico didn't play very well but a lot better than usa, the americans were so afraid, thay were very lucky and they were helped by the referee with a penalty and an offside for mexico that he didn´t sanction and the second usa goal was an insult great mistake of mexican goalkeeper, believe me im in a neutral position im from argentina sorry for my english
DemonJuice | February 12th, 2009 @ 11:54 am
Did you watch the game? What penalty?
Maybe you mean the USA were helped by Rafa Marquez losing his cool *again* against the USA and getting sent off.
The USA are inside Mexico's head and that's all they needed. Both teams were crap last night, but Mexico are the ones playing scared as evidenced by the way they act every time they lose to the USA (which is just about every time in the last decade).
The win is all the much sweeter because of the Mexican antics. One of their assistant coaches slapped a USA defender in the tunnel after the game, in addition to Rafa stamping Tim Howard.
Stay classy, El Tri!
Dublin | February 12th, 2009 @ 2:56 pm
Americans were afraid? That's why US pressured the Mexicans all the first half cause they were afraid. Were you even watching the game? You seem to me the one of the USA denial people, that perhaps US is better than people want to believe. Sure they aren't on the level of the giants, but they sure as hell are better than Mexico.
daniel | February 12th, 2009 @ 3:40 pm
i didn't say 2010. i said by 2018. thats almost 10 years away. we're just getting stronger. we just tied argentina, the #1 ranked team in the world . france couldn't even tie argentina.
don't be hating on the up and coming team.
usa ftw
PT | February 12th, 2009 @ 3:59 pm
What are you smoking..do you think the other countries crank it up against US like they do when it really means something. You need to understand that the game is played 24/7 in europe and south america, in US the season is hampered by weather and no interest for the sport by americans overall. You will never live to see the US win the world cup. This one in south africa is goingto be won by Brazil again and life goes on..check this out and you know what I mean: http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/ranking/lastr...

Mexico hired a looser for a coach…he's been fired from just about every team in europe..the team has so much talent but so poorly guided.

tom | February 12th, 2009 @ 5:57 pm
wow i was COMPLETELY SURPRISED by two things in this match: 1.) The Mexicans played dirty. Who would have guessed that???? 2.)The United States won
i hope you picked up on my sarcasm there
danielthomps | February 12th, 2009 @ 8:08 pm
you're right- the usa is a country in which over 95% of our best athletes play other sports. the fact that we have still managed to assemble a competitive team from what we have left drives you crazy, considering that in most other countries, just about all the best athletes are playing soccer.
so i guess italy wasn't trying in the world cup when we were the only team to NOT lose to them? everyone else lost, if you recall.
USA is not on the radar now. we may not do well in 2010. but as the sport grows here, we have become an upcoming force that is gonna seriously shock some people(take yourself, for example) in the next several years.
reymundo | February 12th, 2009 @ 8:47 pm
Keep dreaming, first of all Argentina is not the number one team in the world, Spain is!!! Check the current rankings, second of all the usa has no style at all, you have dicipline, organization and strngth, that makes you goos enough to be a decent team, but dont think you can ever compare to Brazilians or Argentinians, because they play on a level the usa never will. Support your team and be proud, but know your place!

can you tell me what should i do because since footytube 2.0 came videos are not working on my computer?
Howie | February 12th, 2009 @ 10:20 pm
wait.. maybe you don't understand .. by saying young talented US players, I was hoping they'll grow to be the anchour of the team by 2018. Yes that's 10 years away, but if you have someone aged 18 or 19 playing in Europe, that's a good sign.
I'm not hating the “up and coming” team .. I'm just giving you a touch of reality .. there are big teams out there such as Argentina, Brasil, the Europeans and a couple of the Asian teams that have good regeneration rate. Tell me what proportion of young talented Americans choose soccer over NFL ? lol
Howie | February 12th, 2009 @ 10:26 pm
yes, drew to italy.. then they are sent home by Ghana, a team who's ranked 48 back in June 2006.. and your point is ?
makesence1 | February 13th, 2009 @ 1:09 am
You lost to an African country and got hammered by Check Republic 3-0. So Ghana and Chck Republic are better cause they beat your team and usa did not even make it past the group stage.
maxevil | February 13th, 2009 @ 1:12 am
People in other countries play Rugby and other sports too!!!! You think soccer is all the world plays? Baseball is famous all over except for Europe and basketball is played in almost every country, on top of that the world plays other sports like Cricket.
Elijah | February 13th, 2009 @ 6:18 am
dude, I'm an American, I really do support our team, but keep dreaming man, we are a good 20-30 years away til we have a realistic shot at winning the world cup, maybe we'll get to the quarters or the semis in ten years but I would highly highly doubt it.
danielthomps | February 13th, 2009 @ 3:33 pm
did i say we had a great world cup? no. we got shafted by the referees in the ghana game.
true, rosicky destroyed us in the czech game. its cZech btw.
but the fact remains, we were the ONLY team to not lose to italy, the current world champions.
i'm not saying usa has always been a powerhouse. i'm just giving my reasons why we are beginning to become one.
like i said, i know it makes you mad to see usa become good at yet ANOTHER sport, but you just going to have to deal with it.
joao | February 13th, 2009 @ 4:50 pm
USA world cup winner?? akakak.. i love this dreamers… make a movie withe USA world cup winner.. Amerdicanos
meys | February 13th, 2009 @ 6:49 pm
By the way, Didn't the USA tie Italy because Italy scored an own goal?
Barcelona | February 13th, 2009 @ 8:23 pm
jaja usa and mexico suck period. Lame azz game rather watch Canada and Ghana play !!!
kukubuku | February 13th, 2009 @ 9:33 pm
I agree with Daniel. There has been some significant progress in the USA soccer team. Also, soccer as a sport is becoming increasingly commercialized in the US. It is still lagging behing most other sports, but there's been quite some progress. If US can dominate the world in all other sports (athletics, box, basketball, swimming, baseball. tennis..etc) why not also in soccer? Don't forget that 2018 is 10 years from now. Would you imagine Turkey to become such a strong team in the international level 10 years ago? Or if I told you that Greece will win EURO? Daniel is making a good point, so all you haters should just have to deal with it.
daniel | February 13th, 2009 @ 11:25 pm
if he hadn't, mcbride was right behind him to put it in.
meys | February 14th, 2009 @ 4:53 pm
And you're proud of a tie that was because of an own goal, but could have been anyway by a lame assumption? your subjectivity is blinding you.
nichol | February 20th, 2009 @ 2:35 pm
thank you, Howie and Reymundo the USA will NEVER be able to compete with Top footballing nations. i'll admit they give a good fight but alot of the calls go their way because of excellent acting and stupid and bias officials. i once logged a comment that they possess no true talented footballer THAT WAS BORN THERE, GREW UP THERE and all hell broke loose after.
As said before they are well programmed(disciplined) but they just can't compare………..
KNOW YOUR PLACE……
Kyle419 | March 18th, 2009 @ 9:42 pm
All you English people need to hear is, “Vive Macedonia!” I'll give you credit that the EPL is going to win the UEFA Cup, but less than 15 % of the players on those four teams(Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea & ManU) are English. You have to understand where soccer's role is in America… 4th or 5th in the hearts of kids. We (USA) have dominated in sports and even created one or two, but we do not dominate futball. Not yet.
leonardo | April 8th, 2009 @ 1:18 am
the u.s.will never win the world cup, they have no talent, they choke against european teams, and they have never beaten argentina or brazil. In my opinion Mexico, will get farther than the u.s. period, why? because when it comes to games on the line, mexico always seems to peak and play at another level. the u.s. will make the world cup every four years because costa rica, trinidad & tobago and other teams from the concacaf are not as strong. there weak and if the u.s. were in the european qualifying finals, they wont even be close to qualifying. so just thank god that mexico is the only strongest team in the concacaf.
