I dont like Ronaldo at all.
To be a FIFA world player of the year means you need to be a WORLD Player. Not just in Europe. Last time I checked Europe was not the World.
He shows for club.
But for Country. I dont see him as the Best of the Best. Like Kaka last year or Canavarro the year before.
Great player yes the Best no.

i dont like ronaldo at all!!world player of the year?i dun think so…
i know he done well in club, but have he done well for his country?
the answer is nooo!!!even perform worst during against match…
my choice is xavi n messi…messi cannot take because he injury too much last season n his club din get one silverware..same as xavi, but xavi perform quite consistent….but how can xavi got no5 onli?
because world best player is not choose by PRO people, but is choose by nation team coach n captain…let say,i like this player, den i choose him…the world best player should be chosen based on their performane, attitude or anything…

Well come on, Ronaldo was THE BEST of 2008, i dont care about kaka or messi, they were not better then him, you all have to admit it! he scored so many goals, he's extremelly fast with huge technique isnt it enough? And for the country who cares man…i'm portuguese and i can see that we are not having a good time..mister carlos queiroz for me is not god and he doesnt know how to motivate the players and keep the respect, nobody is playing well, is not only ronaldo. RONALDO IS THE BEST PLAYER OF THE WORLD!
free bet | January 13th, 2009 @ 4:56 pm
C Ronaldo won both the league plus the champions and he also scored many goals with his club, some say that because he did not do well in the Euro he doesnt deserve it, I would say he does, but he really needs to step up this year in order to be considered as lately he has not been there…
Verc | January 13th, 2009 @ 8:17 pm
Some may say he is not the best player in the world, and therefore does not deserve the award
The thing is, Ronaldo performed way better in 2008 than his other peers, Europe or elsewhere. No one can deny this fact. I am not a Ronaldo fans, escpecially not of his personality, but to say he doesn't deserve it is an ignorant argument. He didn't just do well on statistics, but also had become the consistent backbone of United's bid to Premiere League and Champions League to say the least. Best player or not, in 2008, he is simply the player that performed the best.
If he doesn't deserve it, than no one else does.

I find it astonishing at the amount of people who are doubting whether Ronaldo is the best player in the world!!! Do you people watch football? No player on Earth can score 43 goals in a season from midfield. There is no competition, you need to remember that he is playing in a harder league than the other contenders as well. Better opponents, defenders, goalkeepers and he makes them look like amatuers. I'm an Arsenal fan, I hate United, but I know when someone is good (Fabregas) and when someone is amazing (Cristiano). Ronaldo is the best player there has ever been, forget Pele and Maradonna, remember that they were playing against amatuers. Kaka and Messi are very good players, but they need their teams. Ronaldo has the ability to win games, and his strength above than any other player is that he can create oppurtunities all on his own from nothing. I have no idea why Xavi was even in the rankings, what about Gerrard or Robinho? Steven Gerrard is better than any player in the other European leagues, stick him in the Spanish or Italian league and he will come second if not win World player. Just look at the European Cup, you couldn't get any more English teams in if you tried.

this video makes me less hate him a little bit. Good work
danman | January 14th, 2009 @ 2:47 am
He's great no doubt, but best in the world is certainly debatable (as it would be for any of today's stars). The fact that you say Robinho is better than Xavi shows a lot about your mindset. I'm sure you would not have said that last yr if you watched he and Xavi in La Liga, but for you to be making that sort of comment, I'm sure you don't watch much of anything outside of the Premier League anyway.
danman | January 14th, 2009 @ 2:55 am
nice ceremony there. ronaldo actually looks touched when embraced by Pele. also, it's nice to see that the top players aren't as wrapped up in silly “who's the best” debates like the rest of us and can enjoy a nice gathering like that.

HE DESERVET
JK | January 14th, 2009 @ 8:17 am
Yes, C.Ronaldo being the best player in the world is very debatable….however, HE WAS THE BEST OF 2008… no matter what people say…his record in Premier League proves it, he definitely deserved it.
RoOnalOo | January 14th, 2009 @ 5:19 pm
ronaldo had a great year with portugal…..he played excellent in the euros. Portugal got to the semis i think. Ronaldo got a couple of gols in the team, and also captained the team too. Ofcourse he played like a monster in man utd , but portugal didn't have many games, other than the euros. he deserves it and the people who are jelous can f@k offffffffffff.
Jawbreaker | January 14th, 2009 @ 8:35 pm
LOLOL… on the Love Hate video, “I think he's the best player in de world mate!”
Cheers Ronnie

THIS SEASON:
<<The Bad>>
I agree that he needs to step up his game from now to stay considered in the top five for 2009… he's only got 8 goals so far in the premiership considering his title and his injury early in the season changed his game for the worst if i'm not mistaken…
<<The Good>>
In my opinion he's lost his speed and confidence on the dribble and has changed as a striker… i'd say he's more of a play maker now since he's passing the ball a bit and still making things happen with finess.
Soccermom | January 15th, 2009 @ 2:01 am
all you haters are just jealous!! Ronaldo is the best and the hottest….
Cule | January 16th, 2009 @ 3:38 am
Nope, you don't have any sense. First of all, yes, Ronaldo clearly deserved to win as he had a spectacular season. But to say that he is better than the likes of Pele and Maradona??? You must not watch football. Second, Kaka and Messi do play on great teams, but so does Ronaldo. In fact, if Tevez and Rooney didn't work their butts off and if Vidic and Rio weren't as good as they were, Man Utd. would have won nothing. Third, the English league is not the most difficult league to play in. It may have earned the right to be called the best league in the world but that doesn't mean it's more difficult to play in. Personally, I find that the Serie A has the much better defenses and La Liga has much better keepers. It's no coincidence that the PL is the highest scoring league. It's just a matter of playing style, players play better in one league than they do in another because of their playing style. Diego Forlan and Veron couldn't make it with Man. Utd. but they excelled in other leagues. Likewise, Torres struggled to break the 20 goal mark with Atleti. But in his first season at Pool, he scores 30. And you being an Arsenal fan, I'm sure you can recall the number of Arsenal players who have flopped when moving to other European clubs.

Ronaldo is the best at the moment. Im from croatia and i wonder when will our next player be ebst on world? Can Luka Modric be that guy?
Love him | April 29th, 2009 @ 10:02 pm
wtf? whats that abt ppl saying he didnt play well in the euros. He played outstanding! sure his team did not win, but in the handful of games he played, he continued to score goals and play with class even without his fellow man utd teammates.
There is no doubt that he performed far better than anyone else and quote
“No player on Earth can score 43 goals in a season from midfield. There is no competition, you need to remember that he is playing in a harder league than the other contenders as well. Better opponents, defenders, goalkeepers and he makes them look like amatuers. “
