I watched it all live, it was more entertaining than I thought it would be, so I was pleasantly surprised.
rvg | July 26th, 2008 @ 1:43 am
I believe that this shows how soccer is still struggling in the US. Think about it. I’m not trying to be a pessimist or to put anyone down, I just think that the BEST of the MLS should be able to achieve more than a one goal win off of a penalty against an average club team.
cj | July 26th, 2008 @ 2:40 am
rvg, seriously, how can you take this as evidence that soccer in the us is struggling? this is a team of stars that have never played a single game together. they were playing a three man back line. the game is more about entertainment than a result.
the mls all stars beat chelsea two years ago, did that mean that they’re better than chelsea? don’t take these games seriously.
mls is a good league. i’ve watched a lot of mls and it’s a lot better than it was four years ago. when people compare the level of play to the colaship i think that’s about right.
mark | July 26th, 2008 @ 3:15 am
Seriously,
The MLS is a rebuilding league, similar to the transition in Australia from the NSL to A-League. I enjoyed this game very much, despite West Ham not playing a full strength side.
Give the league a chance.

Um actually look at the past three MLS all stars results: Allstars 4 – 1 Fulham
Allstars 1 – 0 Chelsea
Allstars 2 – 0 Celtic
With a hugely understrength side i think we did well to provide an entertaining contest with the best players in the MLS.

De Rosario’s penalty was unbelievable, it bounced twice off the crossbar…:o

dean ashton after the game: “It was a good game but we were not 100% because of the plane ride the night before. We were told before the game to take it easy on them and that’s what we did as evident by lackluster defending, however, it was an entertaining game.”

Nice dive by De Rosario.
Oh..Really? | July 27th, 2008 @ 8:43 pm
The standard of US football is definitely not very high, but you cannot deny that it is imrpoving, little by little. I feel the national side is imroving more , and faster, because more American players are moving to play abroad, and are not performing that badly.
Howard
Hejduk Cherondolo Spector
Convey Edu Mastroeni Dempsey
Adu Altidore Donovan
Not a bad team, compared tyo previous. This team has many yoiung upcoming US Stars, Altidore Adu, and Dempsey etc.
6/11 in Europe , not bad for the US.
Oh..Really? | July 27th, 2008 @ 8:46 pm
Many new foreign players are coming to the US, good new players. The only problem is, they are all old stsars, like Blanco, Gallardo, Angel and Beckham. The US better realise they better not make the MLS a retirement home for old stars.

Very entertaining game. Glad to see a Fire player come through in the clutch. Keep it up.
On a side note I found this hilarious spoof of PTI

2 b honest west ham arnt the best of english teams! it wudda have been better to watch them play some like man united or chelsea? possibly a different result?

whu | August 10th, 2008 @ 6:38 am
Good game.
Hats off to MLS, having not played together before.
Just a note about WHU, still in pre-season so nowhere near full fitness, with most of the best players out injured, and by the end of it we had a team of kids.
But I’m not having a dig, good game, well done both sides considering the circumstances.

I never knew that MLS is that good.
