Serves Italy for refusing to play the game. Spain showed resilience and class while the Italians just wanted to roll around on the ground and whine. It was a pathetic spectacle to watch for any Italian fan, and any fan of real football.

Ole, Espana! It’s about time !! The perfect defence (anti-football) meets an imaginative offense (creative football)…and this time, justice wasn’t blind. Ole…ole…ole! On to the final vs. Germany.

it’ll be Spain vs Ger… the other teams (as fast as they may be) just don’t have the nerves for it. Me being german only really wanted to see the italians lose, and they proved to me, they are all hype – no substance in the Euro’08

Neither team showed beautiful football. Russians and Netherlands showed superior football yesterday and I would hope to see them play more against the teams in this tournament.
Spain has a lot of experience and that certainly is beneficial and might play a significant role in the game against Russians. But whatever it may be – I think it’ s going to be an interesting game and I hope that Russians put another brilliant performance for all football fans out there. Most interesting team to watch this year!!! Same during UEFA cup – Zenit. Beating Baern Munich 4-0 is a superb accomplishment.

Germans were extremely lucky that Croats thought that they’re done with Turks on the last minute. If Croats won – German chances to get to the final would be much lower.

You know what I noticed? Every Italian fan is being gracious about losing and so far there hasn’t been one negtive comment made about Spain or the game by any Italian fan. One would hope that other teams would be just as gracious when they lose to Italy, but alas, the Italians just are not afforded such courtesy…
Not a particuarly well played game. I say it is Spain vs Germany in the final.

Real mature mate.
Unfortunantly the Italian national team play a boring yet SMART blend of football.
They cannot fluke 8 championships.
It is not enjoyable to watch, But it works…
Atleast for them!
Watch Romania V france and Italy.
They played the same blend of football, but for some reason noone wants to hate them???

I think Italy actually controlled the game and had as many breaks as Spain. Spain were the more hungry team which ticks off any Italian team, but without Pirlo, the team’s lost its glue. Great game for purists and great for Spain, they just seemed more out for a win than Italy. Spain deserved this win, hands down!
I still don’t get why there is so much negative for Italy?
They are fantastic and did win the World Cup (and a few others)…is it that there food is better than yours or what? Just enjoy the game for god’s sake and get on with some more intelligent input. They’ll be back at some point…I’ve known many a great team to be hated and I guess the Azzuri are just one of them.
Good luck Spain, beat Russia and Germany and you trully deserve to be the Euro champs!!!!!
skof | June 23rd, 2008 @ 6:31 am
so what?
we played an anonymous game against a great team. we defended ourselves with blood and tears, we let spain shoot in the goal 4 times while we just shot 2 or 3 times, we lost at penalties we did not lose 5-0. i know we are condemned to win, and we didn’t, but i don’t see the poit in throwing **** over us.
nothing to say about spain that played a great game, with a lot of fair play and showing both great teamwork and individualities. hats off to spain.
but in 120 minutes if nobody can score it means that the game was well balanced, of course there must be a team that attacks and another that defends, there is a team that plays a good game and another that plays a worse game.
those who say that we are lucky we don’t deserve to be champions and so on, where were YOUR teams while we were raising the cup?
try to be honest if you ever were, because being world champions is not just luck, it is years of tradition and soccer school..we don’t play a good soccer? yes, it might be true, but it is better to play a defensive soccer and always participate in Euro or World Cup.
i am not saying we didn’t have luck on our side.
i am trying to be honest but it seems that all of these comments are just about throwing S°°° over us so i don’t see the point in trying to explain.
see you once you have won your 4th world cup.

I just don’t know how they say that spain played better , because they didn’t. As much as spain had more passes in the midfield Italy had more clearcut chances, they had the Camoranesi chance and then Di Natale chance. As much as you praise villa and torres, they were completely taken out by CHIELLINI (monster) and PANUCCI
And you know that penalties is a complete lottery.

We had a new coach, new players and we lost several key players to injuries.
It just wasn’t our time to win this.
The 2010 World Cup awaits and I dare Spain to try and take that one from us!
For the Italy haters out there… This is the first time in 88 years that Spain have won a game against Italy in a major tournament. Trust me… Spain isn’t “that” good.

haha its like I said, don’t bring that **** in my house and expect to get away with it. El juego fue una mierda, but at least we won. Italy did what they do best, don’t like to score goals much, maybe one once in a while. Just defending, and they do that well to their respect. Gave themselves a chance.
But you can’t win every penalty shoot out.

Sigh… as I was watching the game, I knew the Italy haters would go rampant on this one.
That was a badly reffed game though, no question. But I suspect a lot of people here don’t really support Spain, they just hate Italy. It’s a sad mentality for the people who truly support Spain because they have to be associated with people who ignorantly make hateful comments.
Good job Spain, lets see some good football to come.

I find it hilarious that anyone honestly thinks that Australia was the better team in 2006. Australia was so supremely lucky that they didn’t find themselves down 2-0 before Materazzi was unjustly sent off. And if you look at Grosso being brought down in the area at the end of the game, you may notice that the Aussie made no contact with the ball but his arm made contact with Grosso’s leg. You need to just accept that Australia lost fair and square to a superior team.

What an ironic statement seeing as how Italy got more gifts from the officials in this game then they got in the entire World Cup tournament in ‘06.

Yeah actually, you are quite wrong. It’s one thing to be patriotic, but you seem to flat out just hate Italy. Yes, the Italians dive. So do, lemme see, every other nation in the world.
You’re right, don’t be an illusionist. I suggest you start by making intelligent comments about Italian play (they were slow, sluggish, took no chances, turtled too much, didn’t want to win the game in regulation, etcetcetc…) rather than simply ***** about diving.

Everyone who has posted an anti-Italy comment is simply proving my earlier point. Has any Italian fan attacked Spain? I haven’t seen any such comments here. Whether we win or lose, Italy is asaulted, usually without cause or provokation. So much for sportsmanship huh?

look, anon, it’s quite obvious to true football fans that the azzuri are waay slower than spain….as a team, spain plays at 100 miles an hour compared to italy, the spanish were simply unlucky but clearly dominated the italian box, italy could’nt dribble on spains defence while the spanish were dancing around italy’s d. (even when there we’re 4 italians surrouding 2 spanish players)…..i’m just sayin italy was outplayed as well as outclassed by a better team and we’re lucky it even went to penalties…..say what you want, but watch the game close and you’ll see who had the better possesion percentage…….
anon | June 23rd, 2008 @ 7:48 pm
The Italians couldn’t penetrate the Spanish defense because most of the time, the offense for the Italians consisted of someone making a run off the wing and then making a cross hoping Luca Toni would find it. That’s pretty much all they did. On the other hand, their defense involved highly disciplined marking and swarming which really neutralized the tremendous speed advantage Spain has. The Italian defenders made sure that their goal was a small target most of the time. And the Spaniards weren’t dancing through much of anything. Their best chances came off of quick counterattacks where the Italian defense couldn’t get set.
If you were saying Italy was being outclassed, then yes, I agree with you. But what you were saying was, and I quote:
“who’s more famous for diving than italy….”
“i guess they could’nt find anyone to pay off in this tourney..i just hate dirty soccer teams people”
You said NOTHING… absolutely NOTHING about the play of the Italians. (Scroll up, I copy pasted) In fact, you didn’t even mention Spain in any of your posts UNTIL this one.
streyeker | June 23rd, 2008 @ 9:05 pm
Did’nt feel the need to point out the obvious, and i stand by my words 100%, paying someone off refers to the constant controversial calls that usually favor the azzuri strangely enuff……and i definately see them as a dirty team, often taking cheap shots at other players if they hit tha ground or are outplayed, and yes, most football fans that i know agree that although many teams do dive, no one does it more or better than italy. and are you serious??? spain were’nt dancing with tha ball around the italian defence???? you have your opinion and that’s fine, but at the end of the day the better team won the match….and i think you may be surprised come 2010 how fast italy exits the tourney……providing they get in a group with some time will tell, but at this time i will tell you that italy is history and spain gets the victory!!!!! and they will not hold dual titles……and that’s sweet enuff 4 me…….GO SPAIN !!!!!!!:d:d:d:d;)

Pretty loose officiating for such a Prestigous Tourney. Alot of controversy with off sides, fouls comited in the box …and what was with that Eric Abidal Red Card ???? Okay a penalty kick???? yes, 100% but a red????? these refs seem to work in reverse, over charging for the more minor infractions, but on the other hand turning blind eyes to obvious major infractions lthat take place in the 18……i think they need better refs for the next euro, less controversy gives the tourney more respect from the fans….way too many refs with hidden agendas…….

They didnt say that australia were the better team, they were just sayin tht it took a bull**** decision from the ref to get them through that game. and haha if u seriously think that was a penalty back then…then spain should’ve had three in the first half of this game.
Dude, use your eyes. This is exactly what I mean when I say that people are so biased against Italy they will believe anything negative about the Italians. Watch the clip. Did the Aussie touch the ball at all? No. If you watch very closely, you will see that the Aussie’s (forgive me, I do not recall his name) left arms went up and definitely made contact with Grosso’s leg, which is when he went down.

I agree with you for the most part, although I wouldn’t call Ballack’s nudge a “major infraction.” The officials have been less than impressive in this tournament, and yes, even though I am an Italy fan, I will readily admit that Italy got away with a lot against Spain.

hey rvg…do you think it’s just the style of the european leagues?? to let more things go in order to keep the game moving???? and i just think that if they called ballack’s “nudge” it would have been interesting to see how the game went from there…..who knows? maybe germany would have gone home…..just a thought…….

You know I have alwayse felt let the players decide and officials should try to stay out of it as much as possible. Let the players decide the game right??? I’m pretty sure we can all agree on that. But again everything in moderation and the officials due have to try and keep control of the game.
But guys if you have some free time you should deffinitely check out this show Cold Wars at digitalfuntown. I mean I couldnt stopped watching episodes of the show and laughing. I even had to leave it on during games. Here ill give you guys a link incase you have trouble finding it.

I don’t know what the style is right now, if any. If they wanted to keep the games moving, one would think that they wouldn’t call the little things either…
I hope that Germany wins and that Turkey doesn’t pull off another miracle.
streyeker | June 24th, 2008 @ 10:29 pm
true rvg, germany probably will, given the injurys and suspensions turkey has to deal with, not to mention the height difference of the germans, these things combined make it an uphill battle for turkey……then again they have seemed to dance with death and live to dance again……..can’t wait to see this 1……

streyeker, you’re nothing but white trash and have the most biased opinion on this page, you’re just a ****ing idiot, so it would be best if you zipped your lid. anyone who cheers for spain is a ********** and a ****ing moron, and check the rule book you ****, tackle from behind in the box is a red, maybe they didn’t call it in whatever amateur **** you grew up watching, but outside of your trailer park, that’s the right call. you’re a pathetic waste. period.

No Doubt Spain deserved it they were the better team in the tournment…
Poor football by Italy and they made us look bored…
All the best to the Spanish aheading of the Russia match…
krookie | June 26th, 2008 @ 4:28 am
everytime i watch italy plays, i fall asleep before the 90mins end
thanks god it s about time they are out :d/
ThisIsTheYear | June 26th, 2008 @ 10:20 am
Yeah Italy is a really boring team to watch. Then again I thought the same thing about Russia and Turkey before this tournament started so you never know when a team is gunna bust out. With Italy what I like to do is take a break between the 30th and 60th minute and watch something else. I usually go to digitalfuntown and watch their shows so I can stay awake. Pretty funny stuff. Then by the 60th minute I’m recharged and ready to go.
