Arshavin put up the best individual performance in this tournament during that match. He was BRILLIANT. I could not believe how good he was. Ive seen him a few times for Zenit and in some of Russia’s qualifiers, no doubt he was a very good player. But what he did tonight was simply extraordinary. It was magnificent! He was all over the place. Not sure what happened to Holland, guess they never got a spark to spur them on. Its unfortunate, they were a very good side and I enjoyed watching them. Russia have been very good the last couple of matches now. I hope they play just as well in the semifinals, great team to watch too.

an unbelievable performance by the Russians. They outclassed the dutch in all aspects of the game. the dutch were truly scared and chocked as always. What does Guss Hiddink give his players? the man is simply amazing.

i always believe in russia and its the only team having 99% players from national teams, YOUNGEST team and team that ran the most (in km, the distance). i was surprised and im happy
im happy that i ordered russian jersey after match with spain, because even tho they lost 4-1 and were bad in defence, they played football and hit post and had chances.. im russian, im happy and i will die from happinese if this side will be champions. only team i fear is italy. their disgusting game is unpleasant to watch and they kill pace of game.. this is only what gonna edfeat russians..

I haven’t watched the highlights yet but did the ref really give a red then take it back. I thought that was literally impossible. I thought once the red has left the pocket it’s game over no 2nd chance.
Does this completely change the rules of football? Now when players get a red they won’t leave instead they’ll lobby to have the card recinded. Ridiculous.

no, he didnt change his decision because players lobby, he changed it, because assistant ref. confirmed that ball was out. thats it.
it happened before and ref made mistake taking card out not looking at assistent. but THRE WAS NO FAUL FOR YELLOW CARD… so everything is fair…

Well done Arshavin! Indeed there’ll be several clubs drooling for his signature! I was hoping Netherlands would go through as I’ve always wanted to see a Netherlands v Spain match.. but to be honest I wasn’t surprised. Holland are very much like Spain and Argentina, they usually conquer during the group stages but fall out flat during the final stages. Holland’s back four aren’t strong enough — they lack someone with the figure of Stam/De Boer..

Van der saar has played a great tournament until the 115th minute of the game. That was clearly his fault. But had the Dutch played better, they wouldn’t have been in so much trouble at that point. Congrats to Russia, great performance by every single player.
