As usual, the Portuguese team using the sleazy quick corner to score. They would be so good if they just used their talents and scoffed their sleazy tactics like the quick plays while the other team is not ready and their diving.

i agree joao carlos…..how in the hell is figos goal against england not in here? insanity
David | June 4th, 2008 @ 3:15 pm
How is Gasgoigne’s No.2? Nothin special about it. Maniche and Figo should at least be in the Top 3. Why is Figo not there? And Tamer, Maniche’s goal was truly brilliant, how is a quick corner sleazy tactics? What shite you talk.
Tamer | June 4th, 2008 @ 3:28 pm
What is 9+3?
I am not doubting the skill involved in Maniche’s goal. But you must objectively admit that Portugal’s national team plays with sleazy tactics. Noone dives more than they do, they beat you up if you are playing better than they are and, yes, I believe fast corners-especially when the other team has not even organized-are cheap. Call me old fashioned, but I have more respect for a team that wins fair and square, without having to pass a free kick or corner real quickly before anyone realizes it, and without beating up on oppenents and diving.
And like I said before, Portugal would be amazing judging by their skills alone. But unfortunately they inject so much cheapness and sleaze into the game that I cannot honestly say I respect them. I value their skills, but nothing else.
jason | June 4th, 2008 @ 5:55 pm
so your saying the goalie was not ready. no goalie in the world ready or not would have stoped that shot from that angle.
Tamer | June 4th, 2008 @ 6:12 pm
Thats not the point, though you could also argue that had they waited, Maniche would not have been soo free to take a shor, would have been closed down, and would not have had a clear path to goal, but like I said, that is not the point. It is a great shot, it is a great goal; what lead to it was a cheap tactic, that’s all!
Jonas | June 5th, 2008 @ 4:45 am
Come on Tamer! Taking a quick corner has absolutely nothing to do with sleazy tactics. Taking advantage of your own quick thinking and your opponent slowness is an accepted part of football, as it always has been. Football would be a boring, if you weren’t allowed to do something fast!

wat a loud of crap to hear the obviously bitter English national fans moan about portugal’s ’sleazy’ tactics by quick dead ball kicks! when thierry henry did it for arsenal, they wud say how brilliant and genius it was, but when sum1 who played outside the premiership did it, it was sleazy n ‘cheating’ (r so was implied). no wonder europe hates england’s double standards in football. watever an english footballer does is fine, such as steven gerrards, for examples, occasional dives (r many others). But when a foreigner does it, it is a national outrage, something the ‘f0reigners’ have brought in! typical english hypocrisy, forgettin that that the premier league is only where it is today due to the Sky deal, but mostly foreigners! [from a frustrated england and arsenal fan!]
Tamer | June 7th, 2008 @ 12:04 am
To be fair, Sam, I am the only one who is talking about this, and it seems like noone else shares my opinion. But just to let you know, I am not English neither am I a fan of the English national team, though I am a Gooner. But it is never right to dive or use those tactics, whoever does it. Things like this have always been done by some players some times, from Baggio in the Olympics to Ronaldo in the World Cup, but it had never permeated a team’s entire culture as much as it has the Portuguese national team. That’s my opinion and it seems so far, I am sticking with it.

Van Basten’s Goal will probably never leave the number 1 spot. Other contenders Figo’s Goal against England ,Trezequet Goal against Italy and maybe a header from Platini (1984) would deserve to be in the top 10.

Figo’s goal against England took a deflection…..
