Hi all,
As you may or may not have heard (probably not I would guess) my very own beloved Southampton FC is facing oblivion…

Ugh, I’m disgusted that the Rangers walked away the winner from this. They played ugly football at home and on the road, always counter-attack with 95% of the team defending and crowding up the middle. Good luck next year Fiorentina, you deserved a place in the finals.

This is a **** result. Fiorentina dominated from what I can see, and they are definitely the better team. I also think there were a few times when they should have been given a penalty kick but weren’t.
St.Yuri | May 2nd, 2008 @ 1:54 am
I’m sad. Really sad. Cristian Vieri… poor Cristian…
Good Luck Zenit in final with this “football club” called Rangers.

Oh the pain!! Rangers play to their strengths and yes, it may not be to everyone’s liking but its the result that matters. Bear in mind that Rangers income is a fraction of that of teams from Italy, England, Germany etc so at least acknowledge what a fantastic achievement this is. Fiorentina, Sporting Lisbon, Werder Bremen and Panathinaikos, all famous clubs that we knocked out. So please, credit where its due eh?

vieri is horrible. i cant understand why he’ still playing football! and how a team like fiorentina has such a … in their team. get a new talent and offload such a ****
free bet | May 2nd, 2008 @ 8:35 am
e to say it as thisi s likely to be a Rangers supporter page rather than the italian team, but Fiorentina deserved to go through, by miles even
Football media | May 2nd, 2008 @ 9:18 am
poor Viola…Go Rangers!
manutd, germany | May 2nd, 2008 @ 10:16 am
Credit? Haha the only credit should go to the defenders and the goalkeeper, not the midfielders or the attackers or Walter Smith. Its an embarrsment to the world of football that Rangers are in the final.
Is this how to promote the game to football to anyone? No attacking, just boring defending for 210 minutes? There is the credit Rangers deserve for thus utterly ***** performance.
Darren. Scotland | May 2nd, 2008 @ 11:41 am
Rangers have a decent squad and have some creative players but Walter Smith is useless as a manager. He employed the same tactics with the national team and we were horrible to watch. The only time Barry ‘backpass’ Ferguson HAD to play the ball forward, he made an **** of it with his penalty. With players like Gow, Buffel with a little tact and creativity in the middle of the park not even getting a game in training, I can see no change to this style. Worse will follow in Euro 2008, with lesser teams using Rangers as an example and spoil games where they cannot compete. I shows how classless and Rangers fans are that they can champion this ’style of football’. Manchester will be destroyed by these cultureless tattooed, T-shirted and jeans wearing drunk ASBO neds. Celtic are just as bad.

I dont like the defensive game of rangers either but everyone has to admit that the winner of a game, even with penalties, is the better team.
and rangers are better than fiorentina, even if they didnt attack^^
David | May 2nd, 2008 @ 12:36 pm
Im a Rangers fan, and although I hav been delighted with the progress, Im disgusted with how we achieved these results… just like against Werder Bremen, Sporting, Panathanaikos. Great were in the final, but for fuksake go forward!!
JamieLee | May 2nd, 2008 @ 4:17 pm
Poor old Fiorentina, they’re such a likeable team with such a likeable, and apparently brilliant coach, in Prandelli.

shut up mate!! its the result which matters and rangers won, so get in there!! they’ve beaten so many great teams to make it there. this could be a hint of jealousy from yourself and the others who are bashing rangers.good luck in the final boys. manchester here we come yasssssss!!
Calum | May 2nd, 2008 @ 8:18 pm
Shutup everyone and stop criticising Rangers. We play to our strengths which is defending.if you look at our injuries atm we have a team of attackers out injured..what do use all expect.
you dont get to the UEFA cup final by accident.
and the honest truth is i love the way we play football in scotland.dogged determination, will power,spirit..now for underdogs to win like that in an age where money means everything its refreshing to see a team players with a neversaydie attitude worth very little (a few million in total) come away leavin supposed ’superstars’ (diego, messi, mutu, juninho)in a huff bcoz they cudnt live up to their reputation
now thats what makes a good game of football
micojoia | May 2nd, 2008 @ 10:22 pm
Vieri is finished, he might as well retire, because he just lost is touch completely..
MM | May 3rd, 2008 @ 1:33 am
Don’t get me wrong, I also saw a lot of positives in Ranger’s game. They are not a team of players that over-exaggerate contact, and I was also impressed by Whittaker’s sportsmanship.
asy | May 3rd, 2008 @ 2:01 am
if that’s how a team should play in order to get into the final….
then by all means!there isn’t a rule in football that says you have to win beautifully, as long as they get the job done, they get the credit. There must be a reason why the world aren’t full of strong defensively minded team, and im sure ppl have weighed pros and cons on that and if ppl choose to play attacking but lose to the kind that they didn’t choose in the 1st place, then it’s no one else to blame.

This is football, **** happens.
Rangers were lucky.
Their #7 scuffed his shot but it still went in, Vieri was unlucky to hit the bottom of the ball, sending it over.
haha | May 3rd, 2008 @ 10:05 am
once again, british football owns the self parody that is Serie A.:d
Dave (Rangers Fan) | May 3rd, 2008 @ 12:09 pm
Fiorentina attacked for 220min and still couldn’t score…why?because there simply weren’t good enough.end of!
Rangers deserve to be in the final, they can change their tactics if and when they need to (e.g 1st half vs celtic at the wknd).
Man Utd played the same 4-5-1 at Old Trafford against Banca in the 2nd half…..
Antifootball = Clever football

some of these messages are laughable, look at the team rangers have, fiorentina’s strikeforce is worth more than the rangers 1st team. its down to them to break rangers down, I for one am glad walter smith played the tactics he did, if we tried to attack teams we would of been out long ago. and as someone said man utd did the exact same when they played barca, but man Utd have better players, they play in a better league, so stop comparing teams like rangers who earn only a few million over a year, to a team who pay their players over 100k a week and earn over 50 million in a season
danman | May 3rd, 2008 @ 6:21 pm
that was terrible. here’s to Zenit ripping you apart early and forcing you to play.
ex pat ranger | May 5th, 2008 @ 12:17 am
i love to see all the whining, jealous idiots on here.
Rangers sum of the parts is not as great as the whole. And by whole I mean the team, the managers and the supporters.
No one has a divine right to win. I thought the goals scored v Sporting Lisbon were classic smash and grab – Rangers used to do it to Celtic all the time during the 9 in a row era and no one remembers the Celtic team of those days.
Anyway, quite whining and applaud a team who have surpassed all expectations and stand on the threshold of immortality.
JamieLee | May 6th, 2008 @ 10:56 am
People seem to miss the point that Fiorentina are not a rich club. Mutu is their one ’star’ and he was aquired on the cheap, after his troubles. This is not a story of little Rangers getting one over the big boys.
some of these messages are laughable, look at the team rangers have, fiorentina’s strikeforce is worth more than the rangers 1st team.
Pazzini is a Fiorentina yoth product, Vieri gained on a free transfer. Are you sure about what you just said? Mutu was purcahsed on the cheap. I’m sure he is paid more than the Rangers player mind. But really, Fiorentina are not some massive rich club, they happen to have a very clever manager and Sporting director (Corvino), who have assembled a good team out of yoth players (Montolivo and Pazzini, a few washed up has beens (Liverani, Jorgenson, Vieri), and a few Italian players whom are not internationals, and were not bouhgt for lagre sums – Gobbi, Gamberini, Danielli, Pasqual etc), and other young players like Kuzmanovic (£3million). So all in all, Fiorentina are hardly some big spending powerhouse of a club, able to buy their way to success, in fact only a few years ago (around 2000) they went backrupt.

Rangers may not win the final, but no-one can take away the fact that we got there. Having watched Rangers for many years, this is the best run I’ve seen us go on as I wasn’t born when we won in 73.
Also I note some comments about our fans. I remember when Man Utd came to Ibrox a number of years ago, and a larger collection of social reprobates I have never witnessed since.
To all you Gers fans out there:-
WATP, Mon the Bears and enjoy the final :D
