Even if Levante is at the bottom of the Spanish Primera Liga, Barcelona have a difficult time when they play at the home pitch of Levante at the Ciudad de Valencia. The Levante fans can be quite hostile and the pitch is quite thin. However, Barcelona didn’t seem to have any problems as they stunned Levante to a 4-1 thrashing with Thierry Henry scoring a hat-trick in his first goals of the Spanish Primera Liga campaign. It only took 16 minutes in the match for Thierry Henry to score his first La Liga goal for Barcelona. A scramble from a corner kick found Lionel Messi firing straight to Levante keeper Marco Storari who deflected it straight to Thierry Henry, who tapped it into the unguarded net of Levante…[read more]

In last season’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final match-up between Italian Serie A club AS Roma and English Premiership club Manchester United, the first leg went to AS Roma who were able to come up with a 2-1 advantage after winning at the Stadio Olimpico. All Roma had to do when they visited Old Trafford for the second leg was to play some solid defense and hope that the 2-1 advantage would be maintained on aggregate, and Roma would advance to the UEFA Champions League semi-final. However, an inspired Manchester United destroyed Roma on the 2nd leg of their quarter-final match on a score of 7-1 (8-3 on aggregate). In this 2007-08 season of the UEFA Champions League, Roma and Manchester United have both been put in Group F along with Ukranian squad Dynamo Kyiv and Portugese side Sporting Lisbon…[read more]

Getafe are near the bottom of the standings in the Spanish La Liga. In fact, they are second to the bottom with 2 points, just 1 point about Levante. However, despite what it says in the Primera Division standings, Getafe are not a team to be taken lightly, especially when it comes to a match against their neighbors, Spanish La Liga Champions Real Madrid.Getafe, which was once coached by current Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster, showed eagerness to play and opened the match in attacking fashion. Getafe had excellent chances from Ikechuchukwu Uche and Pablo Hernandez, but luck seemed to favor Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas, who managed to be at the right place at the right momentGetafe indeed created many chances as did Real Madrid. Eventually, the deadlock was broken in the 65th minute when a cross into the box from Real Madrid’s Arjen Robben found Sergio Ramos, who turned and managed to slot it into the back of the Getafe goal. The 1-0 advantage was all that Real Madrid needed to collect the 3 points and improve their standing in the Spanish Primera Division to 16 points, maintaining first place with a one-point lead over Villareal and Valencia, who each have 15 points….[read more]

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo is finally on the scoresheet, scoring his first goal of the 2007-08 English Premier League season at Saint AndrewsGround against hosts Birmingham City.It was a game with a lot of swings, and the nerves of Manchester United were really put to the test ever since they were knocked out of the 2007-08 Carling Cup tournament by Coventry City last week. Of course, while Manchester United were under heavy criticism, the 11 players of the ManU side who played against Birmingham City were not the same 11 who played against Coventry City. The Arsenal Gunners came out with a 1-0 result at Upton Park, when they were visitors to West Ham United over the weekend. Arsenal’s win gives them thier 6th win of the season, and they still remain undefeated. The only “blemish” in their championship campaign for the 2007-08 English Premier League season was a 1-1 draw with the Blackburn Rovers ealrier this season. The lone goal of the game came in the 13th minute when Aresnal’s Emmanuel Adebayor took the ball down the right flank, and dropped it for Alexander Hleb, who crossed it over to the far post where Robin van Persie glanced a header past West Ham United keeper Rob Green. Green was able to push the ball, but not enough to keep it past the net, giving Arsenal a 1-0 advantage early in the match.Robin van Persie’s goal is his 3rd of the season. The leading goal scorer so far in the 2007-08 English Premier League is Emmanuel Adebayor, who is Robin van Persie’s team mate in Arsenal…[read more]
