Liverpool 1 - 1 Arsenal
October 28th, 2007 . posted by admin
Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League on Sunday when it rallied for a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
Steven Gerrard put the home side ahead in the seventh minute with a fierce shot. But Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas hit his 10th goal of the season with 10 minutes left to ensure both sides continued their unbeaten starts to the Premier League season.
Arsenal joined defending champion Manchester United, which beat Middlesbrough 4-1 on Saturday, on 26 points and with the same goal difference, but leads the standings having scored more goals.
Liverpool dropped to sixth place on 2o points, while Blackburn moved up to fifth with a 2-1 win over Tottenham, which remained in the relegation zone after conceding an injury-time goal for the fifth time this season.

How to write about football, and football teams:
A team is a group of players not an individual. When you refer to a team, you do so as “they”, not “it”.
So, “defending champion” should be “champions”, for example. Man Utd “which beat” should be “who beat.”

Arex…thanks for the english lesson. You’re a genius mate! A team is a group of players, and therefore should be referred to as “they”.
On the other hand… a club is a single entity, and therefore should be referred to as “it”. Example: I ask “is Arsenal the best club in the world?” Would you answer “it is” or “they is”?……
So, in fact, admin’s little blurb is spot on.

Ben. Sorry, the blurb is not spot on.
If you ask “is Arsenal the best club in the world?” the response is “they are” because the club is never referred to as a single entity.
As an example: “The goal knocked the stuffing out of the Rams WHO started to play like a side fancied by many as favourites to go down this season.”

If you read proper football journalism, you will quickly realise that you are always talking about a group of players, not a single unit.

Great game. Impressive Liverpool side, but if Arsenal’s passing wasn’t so poor I believe they would have ****** all over Liverpool.

you ever played football? did you even watch the game?
most of it was Arsenal passing, birrliantly.
Admittedly in the second quite a few went astray, that didn’t make it “poor”.
Adebayor and Gilberto made me have a mini heart attack on occasion, but even then the performance was amazing, even if the final 1/3rd finishing was ominously non-existant.

shoot! we should’ve won the game

the rebounds both from cesc and bendtner should went in. and it should’ve been a penalty on carra

In fact, it is the question that is wrong. The question is “Are Arsenal the best club in the world?” and the answer is “They most certainly are not!”, IMHO…

Not that it matters but a club IS a single entity as opposed to the players themselves who ARE champions (if spoken about in that way). Anyway language is always changing (albeit very slowly) and in the end people will speak in the way that is most comfortable to them regardless of any prescriptive grammar……Also Arex just because something is written in a newspaper( online or otherwise) doesn’t mean it is always right.
Long story short, **** and watch the football highlights, footytube rules!

Ok, first of all this isn’t a ******* english lesson so let’s just focus on the match shall we?
It was a great match, brilliant football. As an Arsenal supporter I would say a draw is not bad but we should’ve gotten a better result. Cesc’s goal was amazing, Hleb’s pass was brilliant. Not really happy about the two open-goal misses though.

Poor liverpool!!!
You’ve been ahead but finally….
If you won, you’d pull yourself up and make ManU easier to beat Arsenal…
Because of this draw, Arsenal would only lose one..
But, thanks for the 1 point and giving ManU to first-blood..
Arsenal almost completed 50 matches undefeated but the 50th itself ended on october 24.. Another one will be next week…
ManU prevails

hmmm.. if you guys see the time at 9:49.. Arsenal was clearly offside.. no ideas why the linesman nv raise his flag.. so it shall denied the goal..
but clearly.. arsenal is young and fresh! in the game.. both sides are equally strong with own style of playing.. liverpool is glad to get a draw.. arsenal is lucky to not get denied as well..
but none the less.. it’s a good game b/w both sides.. but still i would hav preferred liverpool to win the game..
good luck liverpool! YNWA..

Hleb passed to Fabs, Bendtner was in an offside position but he wasn’t interfering with play so there was no offside.

Oh god when will you guys ever understand the offside rule. A player is only offside when he touches the ball or is played through by a teammate, the ball wasn’t played to bendtner, hence he wasn’t offside!

seriously arsenal should have won 1-0 or 2-1.1-0 if the arsenal wall does not break when gerrard takes the free kick. 2-1 if Fabregas scored after a deflection from Eboue….should have been 28 points and 5 points away from man u.

arsenal really deserved to win this one! bout gerrards goal, if u listen carefully u hear almunia tell fabs to not breakaway from the wall
… and he does
…. it was disapointing
but later on when arsenal -WERE- (english lesson) fouled in the penalty area, it was clearly a penalty
. but overall arsenal player better
and im once again proud of being a GOoNer!

One can go on and on about missed chances, but Liverpool had plenty as well. In the end this was just a brilliant game with enjoyable performances by both teams. I only hope the Arsenal vs. United game next week lives up to the hype as well.

hansen, you are very correct. a player is only offside if he is interfering with play. adebayor and bendtner werent interfering with play and cannot be counted as offside. The lines man was perfectly right in his great decision.

it took u 3 tries to break our 49 record. 2nd try we were cheated, and u still couldn’t beat us. on the 3rd try, we were cheated (rooney pk, what a diver) again. remember last season, manutd were undefeated for like 3 or 4 matches, and then we played u at old trafford with no henry, no rvp. djourou(20 yr old) was playin centre back with, toure. and we beat u, so there went ur 4 games unbeaten record. then u went undefeated again for some matches, came back at the emirates on wednesday, where it seemed to be a win for manutd thnx to a lucky goal by rooney, but it seemed that the manutd defense was worn out by the 80th minute, and we won 2-1. u cant even dream of goin 49 matches unbeaten. so, think wisely before u say something that u can beat us on saturday. u should consider urself lucky if u get the draw. arsenal will get the 3 points on saturday. mark my word.

Undoubtedly the game of the season so far, in terms of sheer passion and entertainment anyway. Arsenal were probably the better side and should really have won the game but Liverpool came out of the blocks on fire and what a strike from Gerrard. However, they rarely threatened after that and Arsenal enjoyed the better of it for long spells.
If Arsenal play like that again against United this week then another cuperb game could well be in prospect at the Emirates.
