Brazil played great but what was the deal with Boxx’s second yellow? What an absolutely unbelievably bad decision. It wouldn’t have changed the outcome though…

Best game of the Womens World Cup thus far, US got taxed and waxed throughout the entire game. My spidey senses a cup going to S.America.

:((:((:((what goes around comes around
that was the same ref that didnt call the US goalie for coming off her line early back when they beat china. but im not sure if that equates to giving a second yellow when the brazilian dove. and that own goal was simply unforgivable (not to mention devoid of all athleticism). they were ****** from that point on. brazil was walking all over their defense.

What an unbelievable goal by Marta( the 4th); she’s certainly in a class of her own. A well deserved victory, and hope the final is as entertaining.

Second yellow on Boxx a completely unfathomable decision. A yellow like that is completely a judgment call– not mandatory. You know when you are giving a second yellow so early in a match that you virtually decide the outcome, especially with Brazil already up 1-0. So that second yellow has to be sellable– there has to be no doubt in your mind or anyone else’s. If there’s doubt– it could be, it could not be– then it’s simple, you don’t give it. Give a foul plus buttchewing, sure. But don’t ruin the match. That’s so fundamental. Just another example of extremely poor refereeing by women– sorry but there it is. They don’t get to work topflight professional football, so they’re not ready for the big show when it comes.

The U.S. womans team has a long way to go.
The Brazilians just flowed, they played freestyle, they had speed and more speed, and great passes! and technique to score when it counted! The U.S. looked mechanical and structured.
Better luck next time.

obviously that woman ref didnt see the brazilian tripping the american. you can’t give a card when you didnt see what actually happened![-(

Why are most people whining and making excuses about the game? There are plenty of teams in the past that have been down a player and still manage to win games. In futbal as life you don’t always get fair calls! You learn to adjust and move on!
What I saw even before the sending off of a US player was very little from the bars and stripes. Brasil played extremely well and US played bad and got schooled a couple of times. Deal with it, we all have bad days and if you cannot then don’t compete b/ you will never loose. I think everyone is crying b/ the US women has been historically so dominant and in this game they were not, did everyone think this was going to last forever?

I don’t see anyone whining and making excuses. I am a referee and I was shocked by the incompetence of the referee on that one call. That’s all.

Well, enough said about the referee’s shocking work. It’s not whining; it’s knowledgeable people who feel the game deserves better at that level.
Certainly Brazil looked amazing and on the day deserved to win. It could be debated forever, but I thought the goalkeeper change unnerved the defense, and ultimately the team, especially since Scurry seemed nervous and uncertain in the early stages. Bad decision in retrospect. Hope’s ungracious remarks after the match pay her no compliment, and make one wonder if this team had the togetherness and spirit needed to go through. Can you imagine Lehmann trashing Almunia in public after an Arsenal loss? First rule after a loss– don’t throw a teammate under the bus.
