I’m a united fan and I think it wasn’t a sending off, the penalty didn’t seem like much of a penalty either.
Oh well, a win and 3 points

I’m a United fan too, but I think that by seeing the tackle in replay it was a clear red card, but I don’t think that the referree could see it from his position.
It wasn’t a penalty thats for sure.
3 points, thanks ref

maybe a caution at the very most, but it wasn’t a red card.
glad saha is back, but i’d prefer he’d stay on his feet inside the 18 and take shots instead of hit the pitch.

How was it a clear red card, he went in hard, but no feet raised, no studs showing. There wasn’t even a need for a yellow in my opinion.

If you look closer you can see that when Obi Mikel reaches the ball he slightly raises his feet and comes in way too hard with his studs showing. Thats a clear red card according to the rules.

Hmmm I see a little bit of studs, but not too much, oh well, rules are rules, thanks for clearing that up.

It’s a deserved victory, Ferguson said in his post-game comments that the questionable calls evened each other out and I completely agree, what about the Joe Cole tackle on Evra that wasn’t in the video, it was a sure penalty, and Cole again fouling Ronaldo from behind - that’s a red. I think Mikel should have gotten a yellow, but Haim made contact with Saha - that means penalty as well, regardless of how “soft” it was, Haim still slowed Louis down. United were better. The end. P.S. - I’m glad you’re not a prem referee Austin

Honestly Mikel doesn’t know how to tackle and everyone knows it, he cant keep it consistant and thats why that happend, in the refs eyes he got to hard of a touch on the ball and tried to get it back as hard as he could..

I am glad to see jose unemployed. he had never the behaviour of a professional manager, he behaved like a monkey in circus. manchester derserved the win, the red card was ok, and the penalty was ok. chelsea even deserved another red card for the tackle from joe cole on cristiano. We all follow United !!!! We are the Busby boys!!!!

Patrice Evra was Man of the Match. He was everywhere, his tackles were good, his passes always good. Rooney and Tevez seem like the same beast, neither can create for himself, bad combo.

Mourinho “had never the behaviour of a professional manager”? Do you mean other than six trophies in three years in England and winning the Champions League with Porto.
Roman Ambramovich is going to regret this decision, greatly. No red for Mikel, obviously. But probably red for Joey Cole, and definitely not a pen.

a good coach needs to carry himself just as professional as the players do. i could careless for his antics, but he acknowledged his need for a new public image.

joe cole should have conceeded a pen for his challange on evra joe cole should have later recived a red for his challange on ronaldo. mikels challange should not have been a red and saha’s pen claim was 50/50 all in all bad refereeing but 50% of the calls where in favour of chelsea and 50% in of man utd so dry your eyes chelsea and man up

what??why do you think man utd is very lucky,GiB??for instance, manutd vs city…manutd got 12 corner but city NONE…that mean manutd should win that game..there are much of attacking play by manutd but city only need once..to get the decisive goal…only after deflection that hit vidic!!!afterall manutd also deserved those successive five 1-0 win..man utd attacked the most during that those 5 game that they win…

joe cole shouldve gotten a red in this game. such a dirty player. man utd needs strikers with chemistry. rooney, tevez and saha…not working out. all great individual players. but they are no dwight yorke and andy cole. surprised that essien and scholes werent that involved in the highlights. i was expecting more from them

I actually didnt even wanna look at the highlights, taking mourinho off the manager post is something chelsea has ever done in its history in my honest opinion. Saha clearly dived. And mikel’s tackle did looked really wrong, so a red might be harsh but acceptable. Chelsea was playing like a league1 team. Seriously, I myself as a chelsea fan, for once, felt that chelsea really deserve the lost, and chelsea was really lucky to only have lost 0-2, could have been worse.

To conclude to this, chelsea should have never break up relations wit mourinho cuz mourinho was chelsea.. After 50years of not winning the english league, mourinho’s 1st year as a chelsea manager won the league and his 2nd year as well.. Chelsea after mourinho is gonna be the same as chelsea before mourinho.. Manchester United is the better team of all.. lets jus say CHELSEA SUCKS!!! No trophy this year

about that 12 corners mean they should win? how pathetic is that! yeh they should but they still DIDN’T!!!
now to the topic… the main problem with chelsea is abramovich, surely someone would have told him by now that running a business or (club) is way different to running the actual team, thats what managers are for, yet the “sneaky f#ckin russian” has no brain and tries to anyway…

Well, I’d say that Abramovich made a wrong decision by disposing of Jose Mourinho. No matter how arrogant he is and how much we hate him, we gotta admit that he is indeed a great manager. Another thing is that Obi Mikel’s tackle is a definite red in my opinion as he went in wif two legs and studs up. And did u see how Evra fell, OUCH!!
Anyway, i’m just glad that ARSENAL IS TOP!! WOOHOO!!

Tough game for Mike Dean, but a good example of how difficult it is to get everything right at the speed of premiership play.
The sending-off not justified; Mikel in possession when tackled from front by defender– yes he raises his foot but could easily have been just in effort to stop– yellow at most if you think he used his studs deliberately. The penalty a mistake– very clever dive at pace from Saha who should be sanctioned by FA for it.
As for Cole’s tackle– good decision, his foot slides ahead of player in possession– yellow card exactly right. The Rooney shoove– another good decision, you don’t send a man off for something so slight, you have a good talk with him, just as Dean did.
On balance two decisions Dean would likely change if he could see incidents repeatedly on slow mo– but we don’t get to do that.
trizzy | September 27th, 2007 @ 10:00 am | Reply |

you forgot about joe cole’s tackle on evra in the box…what you got to say about that? “his foot slides ahead of the player”???!?! he clearly had no chance and when straight for ronaldo’s ankle. i think you need to watch it again
footyref | September 27th, 2007 @ 10:22 am | Reply |

You are absolutely right about Cole’s tackle on Evra. A clear penalty. It made me think about positioning; Dean was relatively close to play but he was ’straight-lined’ as he was directly trailing the players. If he had the pace to swing wide or even swing in he would have seen through play at an angle and would have picked up the penalty we saw with a better camera angle.
As for Cole’s tackle on Ronaldo. Look closely. Cole catches Ronaldo not in the heel or the achilles but on the laces of his trailing foot. You’re certainly spot on to say he’s late and has no chance– therefore a yellow as Dean had it.
Good points on both incidents though. Cole lucky not to go off with second yellow as the uncalled penalty might well have merited yellow for tactical foul.

Wasnt a straight red.Silly decision. Joe Cole should have got a red, that was a cynical tackle on Ronaldo. Saha…….great dive….never a penalty
