Russian coach Guus Hiddink says he does not regret turning down the chance to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson as England manager.

It’s little wonder that Hiddink was not too interested in “the poisoned chalice” that is the England manager’s job? Sven-Goran Eriksson has statistically the best record for England in decades: Only five competitive games lost, top place in every qualifying group and FIFA No.4 world ranking during W-Cup ‘06 and while the majority of the English public appreciated and admired him, the press crucified him and his squad until he quit with two years left on his contract. What other world class coach would want the job after that?
