Yet another coup for Sam Allardyce as he signed his fourth player for Newcastle, Cameroon international Geremi, looks like Big Sam knew what everyone else knew was wrong with Newcastle -their defence.
Geremi will bring along with him experience and freekick speciality and indeed it’s a good capture by Sam as he signed the 28-year-old on a free transfer, the same as he did with Mark Viduka but than again Big Sam has always been astute when it comes to spending club money.

MARACAIBO, Venezuela (AP) - With two goals by Juan Roman Riquelme out of retirement, Argentina qualified for the Copa America quarterfinals thumping Colombia 4-2 on Monday. After penalty goals by both sides, Riquelme scored the go-ahead goals in the 33rd and 45th minutes to guarantee the Albiceleste a spot in the quarterfinals along with fellow Group C side Paraguay, and Mexico.
BARINAS, Venezuela (AP) — Looks as if the U.S. soccer team's trip to Venezuela is going to be a short one. Four days after being routed by a superior Argentina squad in their Copa America opener, the youthful Americans were humbled even further Monday night in a 3-1 loss to Paraguay that put them on the brink of elimination. "We gave them too many easy chances. When you give good teams and good players easy chances, they're going to beat you," said Kasey Keller, the veteran U.S. goalkeeper. "But this is why we're here to give these young guys experience. Unfortunately, sometimes you need to make mistakes to learn."
The United States men’s national team had plenty of scoring chances but could not finish down the stretch, as Paraguay won Monday’s Copa America Group C match, 3-1. Read more…
Finally Arsenal has made a move in the transfer market post Thierry Henry ith the signing of 24-year-old Croatian Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb, if the name doesn’t sound very Croatian that’s ok because he is in fact a Brazilian but moved to Europe at the age of 15, he took Croatian nationality in 2002.
He has played 12 times for his adopted country and has scored an impressive 7 goals including one against England during the 2-0 Euro 2008 qualifier victory in Zagreb last October. His record with Dinamo is equally impressive having scored 73 times out of 104 appearances and in a twist of fate he even scored against Arsenal during last season’s Champions League third qualifying round in late August, he in fact scored the FIRST ever goal (in a competitive game) at Emirates Stadium, now that’s a really cool fact.
Does he have what it takes to be in the Premiership? Only time will tell i guess.
Transfers are becoming really really big money makers and one case in point is Fernado Torres who is demanding a six-year deal worth £31.2million to join Liverpool, which would mean a £100,000-a-week salary plus £27 million transfer fee from Atletico Madrid, although the fee might be a little less since rumors are that Luis Garcia will be joining Atletico Madrid in the next 36 hours.
Reports in The Sun suggest the deal will stretch Liverpool’s purse strings to the limit and would put Torres’ wage behind only skipper Steven Gerrard’s £120,000-a-week.
But Benitez risks losing his No.1 summer target to Inter Milan if his board refuse his demands.
The Italian giants have already had a £27m bid accepted.
After yet another match where they created ample opportunities without finishing off enough, the Kansas City Wizards are still keeping the faith. Read more…
