Argentina is quite a talented team, giving them a scare in the first half was the best we could have hoped for.

we played with our B-squad for christ’s sake. win or loss, it would have been a different story with our actual starting 11. we beat the dirty mexicans in the gold cup final and they went on to beat brazil 2-0.

GOOOOOOOOL DEL ARGENTINA!

How could it be a good game when the US is missing damarcus beasley, landon donovan, clint dempsey, carlos bocanegra, jonathan spector, oguchi onyewu, tim howard and tons more and argentina brings out a lineup that has tevez coming off the bench?
Rooney | June 29th, 2007 @ 6:00 pm
I couldnt have said it better myself Bob Gibson. I have no idea what the US coach even attempted with that sort of line-up. Having great players is useless unless you show them off in tournaments like these. This is only making the CONCACAF look bad, as its supposable champion couldnt handle the weight of a team that is not in their home field, and that is not Guatemala.

:d the US still would of done bad with their so called stars.
and this does not make CONCACAF look bad, it makes the US look bad. i dont think the mexicans look bad at all with the score they put against the brazilians.
The US just cant handle international tournaments besides CONCACAF.
Rooney | June 29th, 2007 @ 8:55 pm
i concur that the US would have still lost to Argentina with their entire squad, but losing 2-1 or 2-0 is much preferable than a blatant 4-1. The US are the CONCACAF champions, and being so they are the epitome of MOST that CONCACAF can offer. If one of the best teams in the CONCACAF is easily defeated to an Argentina that lacked team work mentality in the entire first half, then one cant help to think that this is MOST of what CONCACAF has to offer. This is what I meant when I said that this loss makes CONCACAF look bad.

Tell your selves whatever you want but seeing this game as evidence that the US still sucks at soccer is one of the most asinine conclusions someone could make. If any of you actually knew what you were talking about you would know that the coach’s priority was to WIN the gold cup, and qualify for the confederations cup. Since the team managed to do this we are using copa america as an opportunity to test out some new young talent. The opportunities to test out young players against some of the best talent in the world do not come around very often, especially opportunities were there are no real consequences if we perform badly.
