It had to be Didier Drogba and so it was as he denied Manchester United the chance to get their hands on the FA Cup in the new Wembley.
The game looked set to go on to penalties and i was actually preparing for it but alas the Premiership’s top scorer decided to show us just why he’s on top of the pile in extra time.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Drogba, widely accepted as the best two players in the Barclays Premiership, were virtual bystanders.
Ronaldo was walking by the end of normal time, unable to raise a gallop to aid Wayne Rooney as the United youngster tried in vain to inspire his side to a late winner without the need for an extra 30 minutes.
As usual, Rooney defied his body, pushing it to the absolute maximum.
One admirable burst took him from one box to another without single team-mate able to support.
But like so much in this heavyweight contest, a brief moment of excitement gave way to a sigh of disappointment.
West Ham United’s cult hero, Carlos Tevez wants to sign for ‘one of Europe’s biggest clubs’ in the summer.
He told The Sun: ‘I really want to join one of Europe’s biggest clubs. That’s what I’ve talked to my representatives about.
‘I don’t know about the interest from Real but it makes me happy that such an important club is interested in me.
‘But at the moment there still isn’t a concrete offer.’
Despite his apparent intention to leave, the former Corinthians forward is glad he came to England.
Didier Drogba settled the FA Cup final in Chelsea’s favour with only four minutes remaining of extra time after the initial 90 minutes against Manchester United had ended goalless.
