PSV Eindhoven defeated Arsenal 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League but Manchester United won by the same scoreline against Lille. Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 3-2 but the Celtic-Milan tie finished goalless.
Celtic 0-0 Milan
Celtic and Milan played out a goalless draw at Parkhead. The Rossoneri's lack of firepower let them down with Alberto Gilardino going closest to scoring.
Lille 0-1 Man United
Ryan Giggs's quickly-taken free kick sank Lille in a controversial clash in Lens. Manchester United were fortunate that Peter Odemwingie's header was ruled out for a push on Nemanja Vidic and the Lille players appeared to threaten to walk off after Giggs's 83rd minute winner.
PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Arsenal
Edison Mendez struck a low drive to clinch an important win for PSV Eindhoven against last season's finalists Arsenal.
Real Madrid 3-2 Bayern Munich
Real Madrid shaded a five-goal thriller with Raul scoring twice and Ruud van Nistelrooy also on target. David Beckham was a key figure for the hosts but Lucio's header and a late Mark van Bommel strike give Bayern Munich real hope.
