The Big one last night ended in a draw which pretty much changes nothing at all.A win for Chelsea would have seen them go on level point with Utd and a win for Utd could have seen them widen the gap at the top to 6 points, but it was not to be as Saha found his scoring boots again and the patched up Ricardo Carvalho equalised for the Blues on the 69th minute.
I would say it was a pretty good result for both teams although Jose Mourinho concluded that Man Utd ‘blew’ their chance by not taking all three points at home, Sir Alex however feels his team ’showed’ the world that they are the better side, but in reality and according to stats and figures the draw last night didn’t do much for both teams, Utd still lead while Chelsea still have that 3 point gap to catch up with.
The ’special one’ Jose also didn’t agree when he was told that Michael Carrick won the Man Of The Match award, he insisted that Carvalho should have won it:
After being told the award had actually gone to Michael Carrick, Mourinho told Sky Sports: ‘I don’t believe it.
‘Ricardo Carvalho was the man of the match and I want to dedicate the result to the medical department.
‘They did an unbelievable job to get him fit for this match and sometimes people don’t remember these people at the club.’
What the result means is there will be a better fight at the top of the table for the next few weeks because both teams have to perform 100% week in week out especially Chelsea who can’t afford to go futher behind the early pacesetters, with Liverpool and Arsenal virtually out of the title race it was important that the top two sides remain at each others throat, otherwise it would be a one horse race yet again.
The bad news for Utd though is that Saha (hamstring) and Ronaldo (ankle) suffered injuries and Utd can’t really afford to lose them for long period of time because they just ain’t good enough when it comes down to the depth of squad, i would imagine Sir Alex would bring in 1 or 2 more players in January but possibly by that time Chelsea would have taken the lead, i’m waiting to see how long the duo will be out for.
In the end a fantastic game to watch last night with Utd controlling the first half but Chelsea showed just why they are the Champs with a brilliant performance in the second half, i also disagree with Mourinho, i think Essien should have won the Man Of The Match award not Carvalho.
